Posted pretty much this exact post in the game day thread at half time.
I've still got a similar opinion after the game.
I altered it a little for the game as a whole.

Pendlebury - Was great in the first half but a bit quieter in the second.
Poor guy just has no support around him except for Adams. Only knock is he should have kicked that goal on half time.

Brown and Frost - Just don't think they are good enough. Don't think there's enough room in today's game for TWO pure defensive players who have no weapons of their own to hurt the opposition.

Ramsay - He did alright I think, Betts really only had the one good moment but otherwise has been largely irrelevant.

Williams - Just too ineffective with his disposal to do any real damage to his opponent.

Adams - Thought he was great. Without he and Pendlebury we would have been beaten by a lot more.

Grundy - Got smashed around the ground and I really do think it is a big mistake having no back up ruck to support him. Did well considering.

Varcoe - Still have no idea why we recruited him, has all the skills in the world but just doesn't use them and constantly just looks to be cruising.

Cloke - Really do feel for him, everyone beats up on him, but really how successful is ANY key forward going to be in our team with us just bombing it to 3 on 1 contests every time. Competes like a possessed animal.

Swan - Quiet first half unfortunately, needed to do alot more with his disposals. But was good when Adelaide slowed.

Oxley - Thought he was terrible in the first half. Had a lot of it but has done more good for Adelaide than us with ball in hand. Was a lot cleaner in the second half.

White - Same old story with him really, has a couple of minutes where you think he's going to turn it around and then nothing.

Fasolo - I find it extremely hard to judge our forwards too harshly due to the putrid manner in which the ball comes in. But in saying that he needs to do a lot more when he does get the opportunity.

Broomhead - Just seemed like he was going through the motions a bit today and made a few uncharacteristic skill errors. Hopefully just an off game for him.

Crisp - Got a bit of it but is largely ineffectual and again, skills were poor.

Elliot - Same as Fasolo for me, was starved of opportunity today but still needed to do more.

Langdon - Not his best game by any means, but there is a lot to like about this kid, only his second year and already has the coolest head in the backline.

Toovey - Was ok on Dangerfield, but same as Brown, Goldsack and Frost for me. Just too much of a negating footballer. A call has to be made on one or two of Toovey, Brown, Goldsack and Frost for mine.

Seedsman - Since he has come on I have liked his attack on the ball and contest. Loved it when he and Dangerfield both charged at the ball, clashed heads and Seedsman got straight up. Was very good in second half.

Blair - Has been pretty good I think. Took his chances and his attack on the ball and man was great. I'm usually in the "drop Blair, bring in player x" camp, but he was far from our worst today.

Goldsack - Same as Toovey, Frost and Brown.

Sinclair - Feel bad for him, was going pretty well before he pulled his hammy. Hopefully it's a speedy recovery for him this time.

tl;dr - Pressure was good, but too many negating players in our team for us to be able to kick a competitive score. Think Melbourne last year, good defensively most weeks, but unable to do enough damage offensively.

I'll add that we missed Steele big time.

How can you say frost had a poor gAme. Adelaide dominated inside 50 and wAlker had little impact. He beat him 1 on 1 several times. Frost is unfairly maligned and in my opinion is easily our best stopper of key forwards. And there will always be room for those players. We just need to get the kids around him more experience so we have tge right mix of defence, pace and skill.

Not denying for a second that he is good as a one on one player. Both he and Brown are.
I just don't think that we can have that many pure negating players in the team (and more specifically in the one area of the ground) to expect good attacking rebound out of defense.
I chose my words poorly, I was meaning that they aren't good enough to be able to add that attacking style and I think that that's the sort of player we need to either develop or try and recruit.

THIS LOT ALL FAILED IMO

Cloke - Epic fail. How can you be built like Tarzan and then play like Jane ? Sick of everyone making excuses.
Swan - SO passed it, he was embarrassing today. I honestly don't know how he gets a game and keeps kids like Kennedy etc out of the side.
Fasolo - ABSOLUTE EPIC FAIL. I don't think he has a football brain.

Seedsman - first game back, will come good with more game time
Sinclair - N/A

""I'll add that we missed Steele big time"" ABSOLUTELY !!!!

Honestly I think with all the changes we have made over the years, there is one constant.
D.Hine. I know many of you will not agree, but he was there for the 12 years of MM and recruited players that fit into that mold perfectly.
Now with a different coach, different game style. Not sure he can recruit the right type. IMO !

Grundy - Got smashed around the ground and I really do think it is a big mistake having no back up ruck to support him. Did well

Grundy was beaten by a More Experince Jacobs around the Ground but he Competed Well.

Agree - Witts or Gault has to come in vs Saints so Grundy can have a Rest. Not quite up to Rucking 100% of the game yet

The guy fumbles the ball every time he tries to touch it. He tries his heart out but I don't think that is enough.

You see the VFL today?

Hine's drafting over the past 3 years has been nothing short of phenomenal. The free agents have question marks on them but I strongly believe the reasons for their recruitment make sense.

I'm amazed how People continue to have pot shots at White? Was by far our best forward who also had to ruck around be game, belt up!

Geez how did we not win by 100 points...

Effort was fantastic but ball use is a shambles. They also just have real difficulty finding space to hit up an easy target and thats a real worry for me. I find it hard to believe the players aren't coached that so they are either not listening or the method is not working.

Coach - Clearly gets the players up and firing as the effort is awesome. I think he struggled at times to make a change in the game by either moving players or pushing everyone up. I thought Fasolo could have pushed back as needed his ball use. I thought he could have left Cloke or White one out, thought Cloke could have spent more time higher up the ground etc. Whilst I understand we were under pressure at times I really dont understand why when we had time with the ball in the back half players couldn't find an easy hit up.

Fasolo - I thought he was ok. Had a decent game last week but he just doesn't influence the game enough. He did some nice things late when the heat was out and whilst thats ok he needs to do it when the heat is on. In saying that delivery is very poor into our forwards so jury out for me on him.

Grundy - thought he had a real red hot go. He will get better and better over the years and its just that time he needs. The umps dont give him much help but not sure he helps himself either. Was one of our best and has had two good weeks.

Elliott - Was average for mine. For a player of his ability and seniority we need him firing.

Goldsack - I thought he was pretty poor actually. His kick back into the corridor in the first was a shocker. For mine with the heat we are under down back he should be playing HB as he did late last year. He is good there. Has pace and generally is a decent user.

White - Will cop plenty from people and I can understand it but he did have a go and you get the feeling he is getting better and better. His two games have been good and if he could hold his marks and convert he'd be v dangerous. Swan burnt him on a lead as well which was rough.

Pendles - as always v good and was probably the best user.

Blair - 3 goals so was good but i'll bet coach wasnt rapt with a few of his early efforts. his go is pressuring and getting in and around the contest...its not flying for marks against cloke

Adams - I am a huge fan and i forgive some of his poor disposal bc he gets it all inside but for a kid who was a terrific user as a junior he has gone backwards quickly.

Brown - I thought was average. For a senior guy we expect more of a general down there. In saying that hasn't played a lot of footy so still finding his feet I suspect.

Varcoe - I'm not a fan and I reckon he is just the new version of Clinton Young. You watch his first few steps in a contest. he doesn't go hard enough. He short steps or runs sideways. He is another I would look at sending deep fwd or back but he doesn't cut it around the middle for mine.

Crisp - Had a really good game first time up and used it pretty well but he was poor tonight. Runs hard and is strong around the contest but he just can't use it. He gets more opportunities but he needs to clean that up. His ball use in Brisbane really improved towards end but its barely AFL standard tonight.

Broomhead - Please leave him in. You can see he has the smarts to make good decisions and use it well. Whether thats mid or HF not sure but he is one that can kick so keep him.

Sinclair - what a shame.

Ramsay - Reflects the team. Has a real go but his decision making and ball use poor. Its not AFL standard.

Williams - See Ramsay. He is just not AFL standard in terms of ball use.

Cloke - Hard to know. Doesn't get much help from those up the ground or in yellow. I'd like to see him play higher more and he seemed to get stuck close to goal tonight.

Toovey - Had a real go didn't he and he was just terrific but another whose ball use awful at times.

Swan - was good when he went fwd but he wasn't great around the mids for a guy who is a senior player. His contested ball winning and pressure was good but you just want him to have more influence and use it better.

Seedsman - Was good and if they can get him space he can cut teams up with how he brings it fwd. He is not fully ready to go but you keep him in bc of his ball use for mine.

Oxley - Terrific for mine. He has missed a lot of footy but he is getting better all the time and I would keep him. He finds the footy and he generally uses it well albeit tonight i thought wasn't his best

Langdon - Was v good but he did make some defensive errors. Again though he is young and you expect that but he was clearly one of our better ones.

Frost - he isn't the player he was last year but again he is young and will take time. He looks a bit bereft of the confidence and the aggression he had last year. Was ok for mine but he got led around a bit to much.

For next week;

B - GOLDSACK - BROWN - FROST
HB - TOOVEY - REID - LANGDON
C - OXLEY - PENDLEBURY - SEEDSMAN
HF - SWAN - CLOKE - ELLIOTT
F - BLAIR - WHITE - FASOLO
FOLL - GRUNDY - ADAMS - BROOMHEAD

IN - REID - DWYER OR FREEMAN

Said what I wanted to say in the post game thread but can't stop being bewildered about how harsh people judge the Fas, more impact on the game than half the side and was clearly better than Elliot on the day.
Call it front runner if you will but players like him are a cherry on top of the side functioning well, would love to see him given a chance in the guts.

Really good assessment Snoop

A few comments from me

Jesse White was good. Tough to be KPF in a team getting smashed in the midfield and with no delivery. He ran hard and presented continually. Stats were good, couple of goals. OK in the ruck when called on. Hands will never be elite but marked OK, probably lucky to be paid the one in front. If we get that from him most weeks it is exactly what we are after.

Broomhead agree needs to stay in. There is a fair margin between his good and bad and was only average last night. I am not yet convinced his good stuff will become the staple but we need to find out. Look for a better game against the Saints

Grundy really good effort against a top ruckman beaten on the night but not disgraced and kept coming til the end. Would be helped by another big in the team. Hopefully gets either Witts or Gault in next week, young rucks need a chop out and not left to be run ragged week fate week. Has had a big load 1st 2 weeks.

Fasolo hasn't started the season like I hoped. Just wasn't about when the game was on. Yes itis hard in that position when losing but has gone backwards a little. Stays in but needs more to keep that position longer term.

Varcoe terrible and I was one for giving him a good chance. Has skill but doesn't put in. In a team relying on real grunt and effort to overcome our skill deficiencies efforts like his become a cancer and needs to be cut out. Just doesn't commit to the contest and it's not even last moment, he glides from a long way out if he suspects too much contact. Drop.

Elliott disappointing start to the season especially for one we were looking to become an A grader. Just not looking dangerous. Seems to be looking for the big leap and forgetting his ground work which still should be his bread and butter. Not getting to dangerous spots

Oxley I thought was really good. Some turnovers but came when he was under pressure mainly. Gets a lot of the ball and is a good user. Impressive. For such an inexperienced kid who missed the whole of last season.

Sinclair. Terrible luck, was a loss on the night. That goal got Adelaide going at another level.

Moore, De Goey, Freeman, Kennedy, Scharenberg, Maynard, Goodyear etc are all Hine selections. They didn't play last night so your call is ridiculous.

Also Clokes never going to out mark 3 defenders every time he goes near it. Opposition clubs know you just need to stop Cloke and Elliott and you're halfway home against Collingwood.

agree with most of the above but varcoe should go back to vfl and bring in one of the kids. Witts needs to come in for brown. not like for like but we can run with a shorter backline and taller fwd line for mine against the saints. like goldsack going back because his lack of goals put too much pressure on the other fwds. Question fasolo's speed for the modern game , perhaps freeman for him and degoey and dwyer for varcoe and sinclair.

Great to see you Player Review Back Snoop Dog

yes been pretty busy with various commitments so dont get to do them all much more and seems a few other posters have stepped which is great.

interesting year ahead TradeDraft and look fwd to your VFL reports as expect our time will look quite different by end of year and a number of players maybe on the cull list.

yep all sensible. I agree one of Frost or brown back. Its probably Brown bc we need the more mobile tall that Brown cant seem to play on. The fact Buckley didnt back his #1 defender in vs Walker was telling for mine. In saying that, Frost needs to start to do more in the air. He doesnt take any contested marks like a Hooker, Lake, Gibson, Grundy, Rochards etc and that needs to come for him in his development.

Agree on Varcoe. For a guy who has come into the team espousing what he can bring his done very little.

I know Collingwood / Buckley are very big on not pushing in to many youngsters at a time but I dont think they have a lot of choice.
