Player Retention Adelaide vs Port Adelaide

Why is it that Adelaide seemingly lose best 22 players on a regular basis over the past 8 years or so yet Port seem to not only keep most best 22 players but also attract players from other clubs?

Correct me if I am wrong but don't crows have a system for working out what to pay players and no one gets paid top dollar but many get paid well, kind of a team first approach. I think this was doing the rounds when Lever left at the end of last season.

If the above is true then its really obvious why they might fail to keep players because other clubs are willing to pay market/above market value to recruit players. I certainly do not think its a cultural thing but merely a financial philosophy/policy that is the difference. Now considering both teams have not won a premieship in 10+ years you could say both methods have their flaws.
