Disappointments:

Jaksch: Having spent time with Cripps in the off-season, one may have thought that the penny had dropped.
Still some way to go with Jaksch but if he hasn't had the hunger to date, will it come on at all?

DVR: This guy looks every bit a footballer but just finds ways to go to areas on the ground where he's not needed.
Having not played even one game for the year, may have a warning in it.

Boekhorst: Injury didn't help his cause and neither did our midfield depth, but I am still disappointed for his efforts this year.
I see him as an asset in the right team and maybe we're just not that team. I know that's harsh but this wasn't a good year for him.

Positives:
Our Adelaide Trio in,
Curnow
Stepped up from being a defensive tagger to a player who shuts down the oppositions most dangerous player and accumulates 20 possessions himself.
Kerridge
Was a bit of a whipping boy during the season, but can only be seen as a valuable cog to our midfield.
Wright
Won our goal kicking and has had a career best season.

Good point you raise about Boekhorst. Has ability and arguably could be worth a reasonable pick for a better side. A pick btw 25-35 you'd take wouldn't you?

Can't agree with you on Kerrdige. Have you actually seen his ball use and hands under real heat?

Positives:

Plowman & Sumner: You would have had every reason to think neither of these guys were going to see much senior action this year.
Plowman was far the better, but a full pre-season and we may see a different Sumner next year. I like this kid.

Wright: Who would have thought that anothers' discard becomes our highest goal-kicker?
Whichever way though, Wright put in a terrific season and didn't stop trying all year.

The draftees: All have shown something through the year....even McKay who only played a few VFL games.
Fair to say that all have strong wills and a desire to succeed. No accident I feel and may be the way we go from here on in.

More disappointments:

Byrne: Not because of his performances but because of his injury. Such a shame for someone that wouldn't have gone back to the VFL but now has to start from scratch again.

Gorringe: Some one please tell me why we gave him 2 years. I'd love to be wrong........but don't think I am.

Good point again Harker, about having the WILL to make it.
That is arguably more important now than ever.

not up to it and should never be in navy blue again: jones thomas casboult

damn good players: simpson murphy gibbs tuohy

impressive and the future: charlie silvagni cuningham weitering docherty cripps byrne mckay plowman

hopeful: jaksch g-mac phillips buckley sumner

handy support: kerridge wright rowe

real question marks: kruezer boekhurst graham gorringe lamb

Wins:

SOSAJ--I wasn't expecting to see him play this year, and when he did come in, I certainly wasn't expecting him to stay in. He's quite obviously a natural footballer and he held his own.

Weitering--again, I didn't expect that he would play almost the entire season. I'm sure the club didn't anticipate that he'd have to play most of his games without Jamo but he definitely lived up to his 'pick 1' hype.

Cripps--I mean, DAMN. We just expect it from him now. Even when I think he's having a 'quiet one', it's mostly just because I can't see him buried underneath a bunch of other players. He is absolutely the star of our team.

Disappointments:

Jaksch--not being able to get a game in a team that's desperate for forwards is uh...not good.

Graham--I thought it was Malthouse continually making him sub that was the problem, but now I think he's just destined to be a 'tweener. Shame.

Casboult--his time with Sav Rocca brought incremental improvement. Unfortunately it hasn't stayed that way.

Quick summary of my opinion of all who played this season. As they say, "opinions are like *, everyone has one"

And yes * can mean *FC or a%#^hole (same thing)

1AW- Retired, the pleasure has been all ours.

2. Jack- We have found a player with football smarts and skills, will grow and learn along the way and bleeds Blue.

3. MM- Class and skills on the field which left a huge gap when injured, need him out there.

4. Gibbs- Another class act but needs support around him otherwise can go missing. When he is on he is super to watch

6. Simmo- Just Brilliant

7. Bucks- Bleeds Blue but is that enough, second half of the year was good, hopefully the penny has dropped and he can become a permanent "consistent" performer for us

8. Kruuuze- Effort can not be denied, but whether his body can do what he wants it to do anymore time will tell, had good patches and ordinary patches, is there any anything left in the tank?

9. Cripps- Heard Wallsy on the radio this morning say he needs to watch the way Diesel played and kick the ball more. FFS Wallsy, the kid is in his third year and has 3 blokes hanging off him and still gets the ball away. Has played through injury and is a genuine star.

11. Kerridge- Started the year well, lacks polish and class but has worked hard with what he has and you can not ask for more than that.

12.BB- Jury is still out, has teased us with glimpses of what could be but we need consistency. Hampered by injury but has been given another year to show us what he can do so hopefully injury doesn't stand in his way and we get a good look at him.

13. Lamb- Not sure, shows signs but not consistently. 24 and 3rd club, needs to pin his ears back and have a good crack.

14. And along came Jones- Gives what he can but what he gives just isn't up to scratch-depth player next year

15. Doc- Great season and has improved every season- bleeds blue

17. Rowe- Has had a very good season and has got the best out of himself. Has been very consistent in the back half which is really helpful to the likes Weiters and Plowman.

18. KJ- 23 next year and heading into season 4, not showing enough and doesn't appear to be putting in the hard yards. Can he find another gear?

19. Sumner- Tough one, I don't mind him, has shown class, smarts and speed but doesn't demand or get the ball enough. Work on this and hopefully we have a player.

20. Mr Plow- hopefully he has given us a taste of what is to come. Interuptted pre season but has performed well all season.

23 Weiters- Looking forward to watching this fellow grow, has been super.

24 Whiley- Does what he can with what he has got, but needs to play above himself to perform at AFL level

27. Army- Has a crack and maybe due to his body the consistency is falling away. Needs to be a depth player and mentor not one of our starting 22

28. Cuningham- Has had a taste, so hopefully he gets hungry for it.

30. Charlie- Keep the injuries away as I would love to see what this kid can do when he strings a few games together and establishes himself

32. Nicky G- Struggled to find his best form I felt, something about him says he belongs at AFL level but does he believe that?

33. Everitt - Body language is his biggest enemy. Skilled and can run but appears to choose when he wants to do it. 28 next year, will he be at club #4

34. Phillips- Another who has teased by showing glimpses. Big preseason and hopefully the rewards will come, looks likely so fingers crossed

35. Ed- Hard working, blue blooded, gives everything he's got and then some.

37. Gorringe- Alot of work to do to show that he fits in at this level.

39. Thomas - Time to bow out I feel, has got the best out of himself and it doesn't look like there is anything left in the tank.

40. Jammo - see #1

41. Levi - (insert slap face emoji here) Best served as a fwd who has time in the ruck so that he can release the shackles, however this is not to be anymore with our game plan. started the year not too bad but once injured was cactus. Maybe more forward options would have taken the focus off him and eased the pressure? Does he believe in himself anymore?

42. 2E- Gives his all and had a good year, skills evade him at times, but he has been good for us and consistent.

43. White- Lacks class and skills but makes up for it in heart. Tough nut who the kids need around as he will make them stand taller. Has mongrel which we lack in bucket loads.

46 Wright- Great pick up. Leading goal kicker and has served us well this season.

38. Byrne- Get well soon - we need you

Armfield, Dennis - C, At the start of the year i thought there was no way Dennis would be playing AFL again in 2017, but has earnt a new contract and played his part.

Boekhorst, Blaine - D, Injured but for a mature aged draft pick to have only played 7 games in his 2 seasons and we are still no clearer on if he will make it or not.

Buckley, Dylan - C, Form towards the end of the year saved him, might become an important cog moving forward.. Expect a big 2017.

Byrne, Ciaran (R) - B, Will be upgraded and now looks a legit AFL player and development should continue.. One to be exited about.

Casboult, Levi - E, 20 games for 18 goals is simply not good enough for our Key forward.. Too many limitations, no just his set shot kicking. He might get a contract next year but I hope he is not in the side round 1 and we spend that time developing options like McKay who have a future at CFC>

Cripps, Patrick - A+, Continued his development and become the leader we need..

Cuningham, David - C, Got a taste of it and with a big pre season hope he is in the team round 1

Curnow, Charlie - C+, Before he got injured did some really nice things and looks to have enormous potential.

Curnow, Edward - B+, Got everything he could out of himself, took his game to a new level and field kicking improved out of sight.

Dick, Matthew - F, Not good enough on your way.

Docherty, Sam - A, Took his game to Elite level as well as providing leadership and has stamped himself as the next skipper of CFC.

Everitt, Andrejs - D, I am not as bummed out on Everitt as others, i thought he was okay. If he is still at Carlton next year I hope our youngsters develop enough to keep him out of the side, be happy for him to be traded out should anyone want him.

Foster, Jayden - Dont watch enough VFL to comment

Gallucci, Andrew (R) - Dont watch enough VFL to comment

Gibbs, Bryce - B, Started the year so strong, but it tapered off with the rest of the teams form in the 2nd half of the year. Needs to stand up at key moments more.

Glass-McCasker, Jesse (R) - Dont watch enough VFL to comment

Gorringe, Daniel - Would like 1 more year to asses Gorringe, not convinced he will make it but there is something there.

Gowers, Billy (R) - Dont watch enough VFL to comment

Graham, Nicholas - D, Is never going to be Elite, but can be an important contributor and foot soldier.

Jaksch, Kristian - F, Nothing i have seen suggests he will ever make it at AFL level.

Jamison, Michael - D, Body was cooked, should have retired last year.

Jones, Liam -F, That this guy has a contract for next year makes me mad.. pay him out and cut our losses.

Kerridge, Sam - B, Excellent first year

Korcheck, Matthew (R) Dont watch enough VFL to comment

Kreuzer, Matthew, E - It was time for Matty to show us that he is the player we had all hoped he would become... Just continues to appoint and would not be in the best 20 ruckmen in the comp.

Lamb, Jed, B, Very good first season

McKay, Harry, D - Injury killed off his first year, big preseason and hopefully starts to make an impact next year

Murphy, Marc, C - Was back to his AA form before getting injured, need 20+ games from him next year.

Phillips, Andrew, C+ - I like the look of Phillips and would be more than happy to take over from Kruezar as our #1 ruck in 2017

Plowman, Lachlan, B, Stepped up when Jamos body failed, looks to be a key part of our future.

Rowe, Sam, B+, Outperformed my expectations and did some big jobs.

Sheehan, Ciaran (R) F, 26 yo who didnt play a game, some here want him kept I dont see the value.

Silvagni, Jack, B+, A player has never stepped in for CFC with the pressure of young Jack but he was easily able to handle it.. The thing i like most is his work rate and hunger at the contest.

Simpson, Kade, B+ - Simmo did what he always does.

Smith, Clem, F - Had high hopes for Clem when he was drafted but simply did not put in the effort required to make it.

Sumner, Liam, D+ - impressed me and a good inclusion and depth to our list

Thomas, Dale, D - Played some very good games but equally played some stinkers..

Tuohy, Zach, C - Thought he went backwards in 2016 after being in AA contention the year before.

Tutt, Jason, F - Not good enough, should never have been given a spot on our list.

Viojo-Rainbow, Dillon- F, Didnt watch enough VFL to comment, but would have hoped he would have played at least a handful of senior games by now.

Walker, Andrew - very good career from AW1.

Weitering, Jacob B, - Super impressive start that tapered off as the year dragged on. Have seen enough to believe the hype that came with him.

Whiley, Mark - F, - Was the one player we got from GWS i was most excited about.. Has not lived up to that.

White, Simon - C - Good player whilst we are down the bottom, but the type of player that would never be best 22 in a good side.

Wood, Cameron (R) - Behind Gorringe & Phillips now so thanks for helping us out in 2015 but on your way.

Wright, Matthew - B, Excellent first year, outperformed my expectations.

trade all 3 while they still have currency/potential. They are not trying hard enough so we should not keep paying them.

Cripps is a marvel.

No semblance of a sophomore slump this year as teams would have undoubtedly put heaps of work into him. Instead, he's gone from strength to strength.

Scary thing?

I believe we haven't even seen half of what he can do. He'll get stronger, more explosive and look to take on the game even more.

POSITIVES:

Our 5 draftees:
C Curnow marks the ball and kicks the ball well.
SOJ is smart and skilful
Weiters is a ready-made footballer
Cuningham looks tough and

Wright has been a great pick up.

Ed Curnow's year. Elevated himself in to a legitimate midfielder. Should finish top 6 in B & F (behind Simmo, Doc, Gibbs, Cripps, Tuohy)

NEGATIVES:
Our forward line
- 22 goals to our leading goal kicker

Levi's goal kicking - FFS he's been in the system 8 years now - fix it

Daisy - is no longer best 22. Has lost his pace and decision-making abilities.

Recruits of 2014 - DVR, Jaksch, Whiley, BB, Smith, Foster - how many will survive?
