He only kicked those goals becuase the dogs defenders didn't body him. As soon as take his run and jump away he's almost useless in the marking contest.
What about the marks and goals against Geelong (Harry Taylor) and Melbourne? He was terrible on Saturday night but don't pretend he hasn't shown glimpses of very real potential.

Please tell me how Sidebottom is overrated?
Pendles is certainly off his game, and has been for a while, but over his career you cannot say overrated.
And extremely harsh on Daicos and Brown.
Sidebottom is not overly quick, his dinky little 15 metre kicks never hit a target, his handballs are often to people under pressure, his general field kicking is not the best, he never stands up when we are under seige, plays good when we are travelling good, his oponents often have an equally good game when they play on him, doesn't go in overly hard and if you compare him to the top teams top 3 players then he is a fair way off.
Brown and daicos both lack pace and are very undersized, have done absolutely nothing in the VFL yet, Brown handballs too often because he is too slow to break away from packs and Daicos just hasn't shown where he might suited in the game.
Time will tell on the latter 2 but usually you see something that might suggest that a player has something special, as yet niether has

The games that a nearly two years old now? I'm fairly sure those goals would have been from similar circumstances. I'm afraid he's been found out now.

Can we play with a centre half forward that can only mark jumping off two feet? I can't also remember the last time Reid has taken a mark on the lead out in front of his face?

He does compete, brings the ball to ground, pity we don't have any crumbers or specialist forwards (as opposed to midfielders) ready to pounce.

I noted that too. It's a worry because he has very clean hands but as you say, many of his handpasses are to relieve himself of pressure rather than set up attack and run.

Did you see the JLT game against WB? His use of handball was great, created a number of continuous plays. Think that is one of his big assets.

I would've loved for Clarkson to come out and be honest in his presser.

"Yeah, we won and looked pretty good in patches, but lets be honest here... they are an average side at best, have an average coach with no real apprenticeship behind him, ordinary structures and half of their team are VFL standard, so we were always confident of winning. Plus they allowed us to poach one of their favourite sons, and possibly their most talented coach - Scott Burns - who helped us dismantle them. It's what we do.. recruit cleverly. They don't. Mitchell was always going to be let off the leash, Cox was always a massive liability that just needed pressure applied to him, they still dont have multiple quick, nimble backs to handle our small forwards, they're slow decision makers, and even slower to react, have poor skills through bad recruitment and poor development, and all of the plans that we put in place to expose their deficiencies came off. And we're not even a finals side!! Cheers fellas... and as a heads up, you can also tell Eddie that the answer is no... just like Roosy, I wouldn't come to coach that list."

Sounds like something Jose Mourinho would say.

Quoted for the like

He did that too- I still recall asking out loud why he only ever seems to be in a confined space giving off dinky handballs. I suppose it's because we have a number of in and under types and I'm yearning for an explosive Tim Kelly type which our club appears to have an aversion to.

Player Review

The best:

1. Steele Sidebottom
2. Darcy Moore
3. Lynden Dunn
4. Sam Murray
5. I don't think any other player won their position. Damning.

Spot on with the best players, although Steele did fumble more often than you’d think. He was however capable of handling the ball cleanly as well, unlike every other player.

Are we doing a Didaka Medal this year, or can no-one be bothered?

Sidebottom - One of our key contributors saturday night. Played about as you'd expect, made a couple of skill errors but nothing major. Wasn't particular impressed or dissapointed by him.
Pendlebury - Had a fair game but being one of our better senior players I would still expect better output from him, he wasn't as damaging with his disposal as he is known for and his miss on goal was poor but its not really a concern I have about him. That said he was still one of our best, even if it wasn't the Pendlebury we know thats capable of much more.
Treloar - Nothing to say that hasn't already been said. He was beaten by Mitchell and committed a lot of skill/decision errors. (extremely low impact performance)
Adams - nothing to write home about. played his contested ball game and butchered the ball a bit.
Moore - I think people overrated his performance. Skill wise he played very good, looked sharp and took some nice marks but isn't very smart around the contests at all. To get the most out of Moore this season he needs to be a full time forward because hes a deplorable defender with no sense of teamwork and positioning - His only line of thinking seems to be that he must make every contest he can which doesn't always mean its the correct play(in fact if you watch the replay you'll see how bad some of his decisions are). Whoever is coaching Moore is garbage.
Howe - Contrary to what everyone else seems to think, Howe played incredibly consistent and was by far our best performer Saturday night. He made spoils/very clean out of defence/assisted team/damaging kicks. Only mark on his game was the free kick he gave away which ended in a goal.
Dunn - didn't catch any mistakes from him and was just consistently good.
Murray - Made a couple bad structural mistakes which cost us but is to be expected of a new player. I was most pleased with his positioning and assisting his team coming out of defence which was enough to want to see more of this kid. Don't get too overhyped about his performance as he still made a multitude of errors but I can definitely see the massive upside he could have to our team
Stephenson - I'm definitely happy with his debut - he did a lot of things right and looked comfortable. I want to see more
Grundy - Overrated. Isn't able to make good decisions under pressure which is a big red flag for me. He played decent but don't expect him to show much more improvement unless he is able to develop a bit more patience to make a good disposal when he is in possession.
WHE - Played decent - With his kicking he should be our number one option kicking into our forward 50. Didn't get to see much of his 1 on 1 ability which is a shame. For such a very talented player I really want to see him have more impact on the game.
Maynard - Bit of a mixed bag, committed a few errors but also did some nice things. Still worth persisting with
Reid - Played decent

Passengers
- Crisp
- Aish
- Smith
- Phillips
