It's fair to say it's been a diabolical last 18 months. As a club we should really be looking very hard at our list. This is what I see;

1. Hugh Greenwood - Can't run. I don't understand how he played basketball when he runs on his heels. Good in close, good in the air, but can't run. Will end up at Hawthorn and be a friggin superstar somehow.

2. Brad Crouch - Can't kick. Loves the tough stuff and is a warrior, but toe pokes 90% of his kicks. Doesn't chase. At all. Complete front runner. Loves to handball to peoples feet.

3. Riley Knight - one of those poor bastards that has to do the running the rest of the lazy arse players won't do. Was hoping he would take a step up but has been buried in one of the worst roles possible. Very fumbly early in 2019.

4. Josh Jenkins - dropped earlier in the year, basically for lack of effort. Responded well. Coaches should learn that Jenkins cannot play with an injury. At all. He's terrible. Must be fully fit before bringing in to the team.

5. Matt Crouch - Similar to Brad. Loves it tough and close. Completely screwed if the ball moves 2 m from the contest. Refuses to chase. Front runner. Likes to pad his stats by calling for the ball regardless of if he is open or not. Loves to spray teammates who don't give it to him.

6. Bryce Gibbs - In the first game of the year Gibbs varied between atrocious and completely disinterest. Nothing has improved. Lots of off field issues are rumoured. Looks done.

7. Jordan Gallucci - Was hoping for a big step up this year. Still not competitive enough. Buried in s**t roles. Should have played every game this year.

8. Jake Kelly - A limited footballer but he knows it and plays within it. One of the highlights of the year.

9. Rory Sloane - Still the heart and soul of the club. Try his hardest, but every team knows that you run with him and he struggles. Not a good year.

10. Myles Poholke - demonstrated that he is clearly too good for SANFL, but doesn't get enough opportunities to play AFL. Should have had a longer run in the middle at some stage.

11. Paul Seedsman - Started the year fantastically well. Injury hit and since then has been at about half his previous level. Suddenly super slow and unable to move.

12. Daniel Talia - Still a great one on one defender, but looks to be struggling with his back. Still super important to the team.

13. Taylor Walker - Slow. Struggling to move, has a huge turning circle and is having difficulty impacting contests. Why not move him to Full forward and have him lead out from the goal square as much as possible?

14. David Mackay - His career chart basically looks like a flatline. You get the same performance every week. Unfortunately it is an average to below average performance. Still is apparently completely essential to the team. I suspect the day he doesn't set foot in the clubrooms the world will end.

15. Kyle Hartigan - All over the place. Has great games, has average games. His bad games however are particularly horrendous. Playing because we don't have any alternatives other than 100 year old Otten.

16. Luke Brown - Mr Reliable has been struggling a bit. Doesn't seem as assured as normal.

17. Tyson Stengle - Has been in the AFL system for a number of years, but still doesn't have the fitness required. Got a great gift in his first game, then dropped because, you know....

18. Eddie Betts - Still has the ability to do the unbelievable, but looks to have lost a step. Is struggling to impact games. This might be more thanks to the shambles the forward line is than his own performance. Clock is ticking.

20. Chayce Jones - Looks a ripper. Runs hard, plays hard, tackles hard. Don't worry, we will teach that out of his game. Can't get a game because of superstars like Douglas.

21. Rory Atkins - I don't know what to say. Sometimes good, sometimes atrocious. Our version of Pittard. Incredibly soft.

22. Andy Otten - He's too old for this sh!t.

23. Shane McAdam - Has ability, but no idea if he has the ability to play at AFL level. Nowhere near the fitness level required.

24. Sam Jacobs - If he didn't get injured he would 100% still be our number 1 ruck. Would also still be unable to get off the ground. Is now on the "Andy Otten backup only" train.

25. Ned McHenry - Looks very promising. Infectious enthusiasm. Can't have that in an AFL team so has been stuck learning how to be a real professional.

26. Richard Douglas - Such a critical part of the team he must be rushed back at any opportunity. Is clearly the future of the club.

27. Tom Lynch - One of the most important players on the team. Critical link player. Also has the greatest differential between forward running speed and defensive running speed in the history of the AFL.

29. Rory Laird - Was the best small defender in the AFL. Now is a stat padder who is more interested in calling for the ball and building his stats regardless of if he is actually open or not.

30. Wayne Milera - Could become one of the best players in the league. Shoulder injury has rocked his confidence though. Club needs to find a position for him and leave him. Seems to get moved around to ensure superstar Mackay plays.

32. Darcy Fogarty - Unsighted. Stuck behind undroppable players. Hasn't found his feet in the SANFL. Is he a 'tweener that won't find a role?

33. Brodie Smith - Still a great player. Has returned from his knee injury well. Not at his best over the whole year, but still good.

34. Elliott Himmelberg - Cracked a few games in the place of Jenkins. Worked hard and competed well. Needs more games, but is stuck behind senior players. Has at least shown a bit.

35. Will Hamill - Looks like a great pick up. Playing well in SANFL. Just the sort of youth and enthusiasm you can't possibly play in the AFL.

36. Andrew McPherson - Looks good when he plays. When he plays....

38. Lachlan Sholl - Like Hamill has shown a lot of promise at SANFL.

39. Tom Doedee - :'( Off field - how good a bloke is this guy?? Champion.

40. Ben Davis - Has significantly improved his consistency at SANFL level. Finally cracked an AFL game. I mean if you want a debut game, it's definitely as a half forward against Geelong in Geelong. Then immediately dropped. Because, you know....

42. Alex Keath - A great step up this year and has shown a lot. One of the best intercept marks in the AFL. Has been exposed when having to defend one on one though.

43. Reilly O'Brien - Saved the best for last (of the main list). Incredible year. Competes at a high level and has claims on being in the top 3 ruckman in the AFL. Simply amazing season. If not for injury, would still be playing SANFL...

Special mentions (some Rookies):

Cam Ellis-Yoleman - Surprised all by playing really well and being a critical part of the team. Had a minor shin injury that it appears is in fact a car crash styled broken leg.

Patrick Wilson - Consistently dominating the SANFL, but too slow for AFL. Should not be in our plans at all.

Jordan Butts - Looks great. Hopefully a Hartigan/Talia replacement in the future.

Lachlan Murphy - A limited football player that gets the best out of himself through sheer determination.

I think if you look at this list it is pretty depressing. Another way to think about it (this is all in terms of 2019 form)

Players cooked

Gibbs
Walker
Mackay
Betts
Otten
Jacobs
Douglas

Players at/past their peak

Greenwood
Jenkins
Talia
Seedsman
Lynch

Below their best

Knight
M Crouch
Sloane
Hartigan
Brown
Atkins
Laird
Milera

Playing at (or close to) their best

B Crouch
Kelly
Smith

On the way up

Jones
Keath
Himmelberg
O'Brien

Want to know why we are struggling horribly? Because every week we pick a team that has a LOT more players that are cooked, past their peak or below their best than players playing well and on the way up.

I'm depressed.

1. Hugh Greenwood - Goes missing, either unfit or injuries keeping him unfit. Decent up forward

2. Brad Crouch - Overrated. Terrible disposal, won't run defensively, bad goal sense. Looks and plays unfit.

3. Riley Knight - Not good enough for AFL football. Isn't a ball winning midfielder, can't play forward, goes missing

4. Josh Jenkins - Tall small forward. Plays really well for about 5 seconds every year. Horrible when even remotely injured. Poor forward sense. Just about done.

5. Matt Crouch - Slow, can't chase, can't apply pressure. We also love playing him in a position where he doesn't win the hard ball. Needs a role change.

6. Bryce Gibbs - Lazy, off field issues. Needs to get himself right to salvage his career

7. Jordan Gallucci - Graveyard specialist. We get maximum value from his touches, but we refused to play him anywhere where he will actually get touches.

8. Jake Kelly - About as limited and one dimensional as it gets, but he is very good at his one dimension. A good side would move a player like this on.

9. Rory Sloane - Poor year, with some decent glimpses. Incapable of breaking a tag and gets no support to do so. Great up forward. Our true captain.

10. Myles Poholke - We refuse to play him in the midfield at AFL level, so he has no future at the Crows. The next Jarryd Lyons, except maybe without the AFL career.

11. Paul Seedsman - Been down since his injury. Understandable given it looked like an ACL. Needs a pre-season.

12. Daniel Talia - Looks like he is being held together with tape and blue tack; one minor injury away from being completely done. Still a great defender but he needs a rest and a good pre-season.

13. Taylor Walker - Elite skills but that's about it these days. Incredibly slow, zero agility, zero defensive pressure, can't mark at all, ignored constantly. Used to carry teams on his back but can't any more. Just about done.

14. David Mackay - The fact this guy is still on our list and getting games epitomizes everything wrong with this club for the last decade.

15. Kyle Hartigan - On average I think he is fine, but his bad games are putrid and come at random. Needs to be moved on.

16. Luke Brown - No better or worse than usual. Standard year from a lockdown back pocket.

17. Tyson Stengle - Developing still, dominating SANFL level but we don't give him a proper chance. Must play most games next year and have a big pre-season.

18. Eddie Betts - Struggling to impact. Whether that's his body, mind or our terrible delivery inside 50 remains unclear.

20. Chayce Jones - Looks an elite talent. Refuse to play him.

21. Rory Atkins - The guy that can dance step around players and nearly execute an elite pass, but gets caught holding the ball at the last second. Not good enough for AFL in an elite team.

22. Andy Otten - Finished at AFL level.

23. Shane McAdam - One or more pre-seasons away. Injury hasn't helped.

24. Sam Jacobs - Finished at AFL level

25. Ned McHenry - The sort of player that should have at the very least gotten JLT games, and then probably AFL games for most of the season. Elite fitness in a team that refuses to run and pressure.

26. Richard Douglas - Finished at AFL level. Should have retired last year.

27. Tom Lynch - The sort of player that is so crucial to our structure that he shits his pants in big games and kicks into the man on the mark. His good games are elite, his bad games are terrible and often come when we need them the most.

29. Rory Laird - Every disposal is a rocket launched to the sun. Has been found out, can't defend, can't dispose under pressure. Needs to lift or he'll become a plodder fast.

30. Wayne Milera - Looked better when settled in one position. Thrown all over the park, injured, and his game has suffered. Could be our best player next season.

32. Darcy Fogarty - Absolute disgrace this guy hasn't played AFL at all this year so far.

33. Brodie Smith - A good year from a guy that only recently missed a season from an ACL. Significantly outperformed Rory Laird.

34. Elliott Himmelberg - Shown enough to suggest he can play AFL instead of Jenkins

35. Will Hamill - Looks a great pickup, but is playing in a position we have an abundance of. Will likely struggle to get a game while we play Kelly and Hartigan.

36. Andrew McPherson - Can't get on the park.

38. Lachlan Sholl - Looks like he has something

39. Tom Doedee - ACL

40. Ben Davis - Seems like the sort of player that could become a whipping boy if he ever gets a big stint in the AFL. Screams "inconsistent X-factor player" to me.

42. Alex Keath - One of our best defenders this year. Elite interceptor, struggles in true defensive contests.

43. Reilly O'Brien - Hard to believe we played Jacobs for so long. Clearly our new #1 ruck, no need to trade for one. Outstanding season.

Rookies:

Cam Ellis-Yoleman - Improved significantly, to the point where he is a key midfielder for us. Not very versatile so not sure how much of a career he has left.

Patrick Wilson - Not good enough for AFL

Jordan Butts - Excellent rookie pick really, looks like he has all the tools to succeed at AFL level

Lachlan Murphy - A guy that puts in effort, but effort doesn't always mean results. Lacks the goal sense and true defensive pressure to succeed at AFL level as a small forward

Paul Hunter - not good enough for AFL

Kieran Strachan - Haven't watched him closely enough to comment

Some very similar thoughts to mine..and I suspect most Crows supporters. Sad the club refuse to see the end when it is coming.

Yep. There's a lot of cooked players, but also a lot of players who have performed unusually badly this season, and plenty who look talented but we just don't know if they are actually good

I think if you look at this list it is pretty depressing. Another way to think about it (this is all in terms of 2019 form)

Players cooked

Gibbs

Otten
Jacobs
Douglas

Players at/past their peak

Greenwood
Jenkins
Talia
Seedsman
Lynch

Below their best

Knight
M Crouch
Sloane
Hartigan
Brown
Atkins
Laird
Milera

Playing at (or close to) their best

B Crouch
Kelly
Smith

On the way up

Jones
Keath
Himmelberg
O'Brien

Want to know why we are struggling horribly? Because every week we pick a team that has a LOT more players that are cooked, past their peak or below their best than players playing well and on the way up.

I'm depressed.
Nailed every one of the reviews pretty well.
That simple.

Fogarty is the one that really pisses me off. Not a single game invested in the development of our early draft pick future forward.

Fancy playing him in defense in the SANFL what a bunch of arse clowns

Improvement comes next year IF
Stengle Himmelberg McAdam Fogarty all get about 200% fitter and actually get games ... we may even get some excitement in our team and kick some goals

Special mentions this year to -

ROB - a revelation
Smith - fair comeback from ACL
Brown - very good considering his pre season
Kelly - playing at his best level
Keath - aerially one of the best , his ball use is too safe and predictable and he could be much better with ball in hand given he has the weapons
CEY - career best form

Write offs and not worth games
Douglas / Mackay

Past their best - the reason why we are 8th suddenly
Tex
Sloane - time to play him forward or back . He’s not a 900k midfielder . Learn from hawks with Mitchell Hodge and Burgoyne but what would they know
JJ
Betts

Disappointing
Laird
M Crouch

More than serviceable but have another level
Milera - glimpses of that he can be which is special
B Crouch - actually v good until a month ago and not surprising given he missed a whole year

Main ones to improve us next year IF they do the right things
Milera
Jones
Stengle
Fog
Doedee
Mchenry
Himmelberg
Possibly Butts and Hamill

In between
Atkins
Seedsman

Need to upgrade next year
Harto

Yes there is a problem with so many players at there used by date and some never was players that need to be moved on.
But the biggest problem is what do we have to take their place and the few that could either don't get opportunity due to coaching stubborness but mainly as simple as these players not demanding selection.
Himmelberg,Fogarty and Jones are beacons for our future and all been given games without actually demanding to be selected.
We got 2 mature although inexperienced players in trades that simply not fit enough even now to demand selection.
Then you have top draft picks over last 3 drafts that really shown nothing and whilst Gallucci should have been played more certainly hasn't demanded selection.
Then in this years draft after picking a small mid and trading in 2 fwd we draft a very small fwd and then 2 back flankers where already full of.
Only one got excited about was drafting Butts as KPP as a rookie .
So yes we have lot of players to move on and must do but who is going to cover them is the question .
Posters on here throw young players to be picked in games and names like McHenry that actually out with injury mainly caused by not having body to play his pressure type of role even in SANFL.

I think people are over rating McAdam and under writing Wilson
Wasn't long ago NO ONE rated O'Brien

It's fair to say it's been a diabolical last 18 months. As a club we should really be looking very hard at our list. This is what I see;

So basically, all players = s**t?

I may be off base here, but I think things started going downhill once we onboarded Burton. Brisbane were smart enough to offload this cancer and they are thriving now. We were stupid enough to bring him on board (along with his collective minds bullshit) and now the club is a rabble.

And he literally has the nerve to publicly state that he doesn't care and is having a laugh about it. Yes, literally he did.

Poholke isn't any good but agree with the others

I know it’s going off almost nothing, but earlier in the year when he played they put him through the midfield for about 5mins and I saw some really good little glimpses. I know it’s not much but I reckon it would be really poor not to give him a really good run of games in that key role.
It is our coaching group though so it will never happen.

Not too sure, our problem is pace and Poholke doesn't have pace
