    Career: 9

KEY AFL STATISTICS (averages in brackets)
    Disposals: 301 (13.7) Disposal efficiency: (79.4) Contested marks: 16 (0.7) Intercepts: 94 (4.3) Rebound 50s: 42 (1.9)

    OVERVIEW
Weitering coped with the rigours of his second season in the AFL.

The 19-year-old was the youngest of seven Blues to feature in every game in 2017, taking his overall tally to 42 out of a possible 44 matches.

Used primarily in defence in his debut season, one of the big talking points heading into Round 1 was which end of the ground he’d line up at.

Those questions were answered when he spearheaded the Blues’ attack against the Tigers, booting three goals and taking three marks inside 50.

While that match was his only senior appearance in the navy blue, the former Docker and Giant ran out for the Northern Blues on 15 occasions, averaging 21.93 disposals per game.

Working hard in and around the stoppages, the experienced midfielder finished the season ranked first at Northern for average clearances, recording 86 in total.

He went on to play eight senior games in his debut season, finishing first among Carlton’s first-year players for disposal efficiency (76.67).

Armfield’s final season of football at the elite level was confined to just five senior appearances, and yet this long-time Carlton fan favourite could truly hold his head high.

This, after all, was a year in which he was voted into the team’s leadership group for the first time at a time when he also met the demands of duty as a part-time specialist coach with the inaugural AFLW team.

After playing three senior games in his debut season, Cuningham added another eight to his tally in 2017.

A smooth mover with a hard edge, the 20-year-old worked his way into Carlton’s midfield in Round 9, holding his position in the senior line-up before missing games through adductor and ankle injuries.

He was one of the Blues’ best in their thrilling win over Greater Western Sydney, earning a Rising Star nomination for his exhilarating performance.

Learning the ropes of professional football, the 19-year-old paved his way as a midfielder in the VFL before making his AFL debut against Port Adelaide in Round 5.

On debut for the Northern Blues in Round 1, the youngster collected 28 disposals and 15 handball receives in an impressive first outing.

    OVERVIEW
Charlie Curnow’s emergence was one of Carlton’s best stories of 2017.

In just his second season, the 20-year-old had periods where he ripped opposition defences apart, using his athleticism and strong hands to outmark more seasoned bodies.

Putting the frustrations of an injury-plagued debut season behind him, Curnow missed just one game in 2017 and finished fourth in the NAB AFL Rising Star voting and 10th in Carlton's best and fairest.

He seemingly grew in confidence as the season progressed, lifting his average disposals and marks to 14 and six respectively.

His contested marking was the highlight, finishing equal 18th (on average) in this category alongside Sydney superstar Lance Franklin.

Contracted until at least the end of 2019, the younger brother of Ed is set to bring Blues supporters plenty of joy in the coming years.

    OVERVIEW
Poise and composure were the standout traits of Tom Williamson in his first season in the navy blue.

Taken at pick 61 in the 2016 national draft, Williamson transitioned smoothly into the Blues’ half-back line, featuring in 15 of 22 games.

The youngster didn’t have to wait long to make his senior debut, named in the team to take on arch-rival Essendon at the MCG in Round 3.

After collecting an impressive 15 disposals against the Bombers, the 18-year-old played the following nine matches before missing a month of footy with injury.

    OVERVIEW
Graham was an honest performer but couldn't cement a spot in Carlton's midfield in his fifth season, playing two less games than he did last year.

With the arrival of a bevy of young midfielders, competition heated up for spots in the Blues' engine room, meaning Graham was often used as a high forward in his 10 senior matches.

Arriving at the Club from Greater Western Sydney during last year’s trade period, the former Giant made his long-awaited AFL debut in Round 1.

He went on to play five successive matches, booting his first AFL goal against Melbourne at the MCG in Round 2.

An injury-plagued season limited Phillips to just one senior match and eight for the Northern Blues.

After 16 games in his first season at Carlton, the ruckman's pre-season suffered a major interruption when he was diagnosed with a foot stress reaction in January.

The 26-year-old recovered in time for the Northern Blues' season opener, playing two VFL matches before earning a recall against Port Adelaide in what would be his only senior outing.

Phillips went on to play a further six VFL matches, providing Northern some much-needed presence.

    OVERVIEW
After playing 21 games last season, Ed Curnow was restricted to 13 matches in 2017 after bruising his larynx in Round 14 against Richmond.

It was unfortunate for the onballer, as the No. 35 started the season in solid form.

In the Blues’ 19-point win over Sydney at the MCG in Round 6, he was influential in the middle. In typical Curnow fashion the hard-working midfielder left nothing in the tank, amassing 22 disposals, eight tackles, seven inside 50s and five clearances.

In a testament to his ferocity around the ball, Curnow finished the season ranked second at the Club for average contested possessions behind Patrick Cripps, with 10.38 per game.

After nearly 12 months out of the game with a ruptured ACL, Byrne’s return was one of Carlton’s feel-good stories of 2017.

Having undergone a knee reconstruction in July last year, the talented Irishman ran out for three senior games and seven in the VFL in 2017.

A groin injury denied him back-to-back senior appearances at first, but he recovered to feature in Carlton’s final two games.

    OVERVIEW
For the second year in a row Dale Thomas pulled on the navy blue jumper 18 times, consistently playing his role and putting the team first.

After selflessly relinquishing the trigger clause in his contract midway through the season, ‘Daisy’ released the shackles and played with a renewed sense of freedom in 2017.

Thomas managed to hit the scoreboard on numerous occasions, keeping the Blues in the contest. The high forward won Carlton’s Goal of the Week in Round 15 against the Crows, booting a long bomb from 50m to put the Blues one point in front with 12 minutes left on the clock.

    OVERVIEW
Alex Silvagni proved Carlton’s most shrewd off-season signing.

Delisted by Fremantle, the boyhood Bluebagger arrived at Ikon Park via pick 23 in the 2016 rookie draft.

After three games for the Northern Blues, the ferocious defender earned a call-up in the Round 6 win over Sydney, producing one of the best Carlton debuts ever seen.

Opposed to Lance Franklin, Silvagni kept the Sydney superstar to just one goal.

All of his eight disposals found a teammate, while his desperate goal-saving tackle on Brandon Jack was a match-defining moment.

Silvagni backed up his brilliant debut in the victory over Collingwood the week after, setting new career-highs for intercepts (11) and contested marks (three).

    OVERVIEW
In several ways, Wright's season mirrored last year's.

The clever small forward played every game for the second consecutive season, finishing sixth once again in Carlton's best and fairest.

He booted 30 goals - eight better than last year - while having nine more goal assists.

Indeed, Wright has proven a handy pick-up after being delisted by Adelaide at the end of 2015.

His goal smarts, efficiency and high intensity are hallmarks of his game, and were once again on show in a consistent season.

The 27-year-old signed a one-year contract extension in June, keeping him at Carlton until at least the end of 2018

    OVERVIEW
Simon White once again played his role for the team throughout 2017. Whether he was sacrificing his own game to shut down an opponent, or just playing hard, contested footy, he was a solid contributor for the Blues.

In Round 16 against Melbourne at the MCG, White was given the job on Cam Pedersen. The defender had his measure until an unfortunate knee injury ended his day just before half-time.

White finished the season ranked seventh at the Club for one-percenters, highlighting his intent to punch, smother and put his body on the line.
