Mod. Notice Player "Sponsorship" 2013

Really like the threads but not sure about the system to pick the players.
Although it is a fair system many people end up with players they may not be interested in (or others may not be too interested in talking about).
This makes it difficult for some people to keep up-to-date with the news updates.
I will make a conscious effort to post a lot more in the player pages next year.

Whats the solution though? you can't have 80 people sponsoring Naitanui and Shuey with lesser players like Dalziell/Tunbridge end up sponsorless

What do you mean 'main' posters?

People that actually post often and constantly on this board.

I don't want to be stuck with a rookie when posters who are new or barely post get a best 22.

I count 8 threads on page 1 of the main eagles board that could/should be in the players threads.

This

I had understood via PMs with Larri that this was one of the keys to making it a success this year and that the Mods would be right on top of it... but meh not a single thread started about a player got merged into their player thread.

Thats they key to getting the board used - make it impossible to start an individual players oreinted thread on the main board... people will be heading there all the time then.

So if someone for the 20th time decides to start a thread called "I think Lecras should be moved to the midfield - boom! - your incredible idea is now post number 30 on the Lecras player thread.

Theres no reason, no matter how newsworthy, anything new thats solely about a player cant go in the player thread. It wouldnt bother me if Kerr hit the headlines for eating 3 elephants in Thailand - it goes in his player thread... and by being newsworthy people will go looking for it and SURPRISE SURPRISE they get used to using that board to discuss individual players.

I tried to sponsor Eric well, but lost interest when I was the only one posting. Felt like I was talking to myself.

I'm not sure how to make it better and don't mind if it's continued or not, but would participate again.
This is kind of what happened to me. And when Embley went down i forgot about it a bit and got lazy.

I think this is an interesting idea and would probably work but it could potentially damage the main board.

Yeah, that was one thing up for discussion. We didn't go down that path in the end.

Check out the Essendon board and how they do it. One option is to scrap the "Birds of Prey" board and do it like that. It's an option that I think has merit

I'm not trying to be a smart arse, but this thread is a classic example of why I think the Player Sponsor threads should be on the main eagles board.
They can't be on the main board though as swannies pointed out not enough space would end up on page 2,3 or 4 etc. News like this should definitely be in Ashley's thread though.
Actually its not a bad idea... so what if the Ash Smith thread goes to be page 3... as long as there is a stickied thread by the mods that has links to all the player sponsor threads, then noone needs to go searching to find it when there's something new to post - they just use the stickied thread to hit the hotlink, post the reply and new discussion gets going again without a new thread.

Pasted from the Ash Smith thread... what about as above - player buddy threads have a special coloured button next to them but are just on the main board, but hotlinks to all of the players are in a summary sticky thread at the top of the main page. That way they dont get lost and unused by people's unwillingness to use a subboard, but can be easily found via a sticky if they've dropped to page 32 of the main board.

And then as also discussed before, if anyone still makes a stand-alone 1-player news or discussion thread, it gets merged by mods

Pretty much bang on as to how teh Essendon board works - they also edit the thread title throughout the year when news arrives.

Sorry was typing reply before seeing this ^ new post... checked out Essendon - yeah that's a good way that I was trying to describe above... they also seem to update the title after the player name and number to reflect any latest topic which is great too :thumbsu: They could probably add a discussion start page number at the end of the thread title edit too for anything that really kicks off discussion again... eg "#28 ASH SMITH - Smith Signs on for 2 years (page 39)" etc

It could also start to shape the role of the 'player buddy' a bit more too. As well as just looking out for and posting relevant updates in the thread and defending their honour shamelessly across the board, the first job of the player buddy upon appointment could be to scan the previous year's posts on an existing player for anything particularly newsworthy or profile worthy, and rework it into an updated player OP for the coming season. No silly business with stupid oversize fonts or random shit - follow the current standard template like now with player details, then pics and youtube clips, and an "In The News" section or something. So the player buddy adds to the existing stuff with any new player youtube clips links, news article links, removes dead links etc.

Because this new forum setup shows PMs like threads in format/look with embedding pictures etc possible, its therefore easy to "quote" the OP in a PM, add in new links or edits, and PM it to a nominated Mod for replacing the old OP.

It could thereby also help to filter through the shit buddies too. If a buddy hasn't submitted an updated OP to the Mod within a fortnight of the buddy draft being held, their player goes to the next reserve AND they cant apply to be a buddy for the next year.
