Excuse me but I was there at Bower's birth. Have followed him through the junior ranks, played a big part in getting him to the club and am currently in the driver's seat of the Bower Bandwagon. Startled Emu. Solid Future.

Only most of the above statement is legally false. :o

Twas I who gave him the nickname "the 'Fro" (I'm claiming it, anyway :p. Too bad he cut it off).

And read the sign - don't talk to the driver.

You can drive my striped friend. I am kicking back in the back seat with the girls drinking scotch, smoking a cigar and letting the ride take me!

Ok just thought I'd like to cut the crap here and sort out all this player bagging on Big footy...

Russell, Wiggins, Bannister, Setanta O'hAlpin seem to cop a bit and there are others who think Murphy, Grigg and Bower can't kick when they are some of the better kicks in our side!

Russell
He may not look it but is one of our youngest players (and most bagged), not every one is a star straight away like Murphy. He is getting better every game and put on a lot of weight over the pre season which when a young player does that they usually lose pace & endurance as their legs need to get used to carrying the extra weigh. Another preseason in him will do him the world of good.
How long did we have to wait for Kouta to make it...

Wiggins
Can anyone actually tell me what is wrong with this guy? Seriously who can say exactly why he should be delisted? Has been getting injured all through his career, now looks like having an injury free run.
Has great hands, takes a good mark, is a straight kick and breaks up the lines at half forward, plus has great intensity and defensive pressure.

Setanta O'hAlpin
Got sick preseason and lost most of his fitness and weight, he now looks fitter and bigger, did a great job on Pavlich who is one of the best. If played as the 3rd tall defender he will do well, he is tall, strong and quick and is learning how to stay with opponents. His spoiling is improving nicely. Hardly misses a target by foot, is great at ground level and is learning to run and feed off team mates.
Come on, we all know he was going to take a while, could play until he is 35-36 like Dustin Fletcher....

Bannister
If i was a medium sized player who would be the last opponent in the Carlton side id want to have, Bannister. He has taken on the leagues best like Cornes and won. He's tough, athletic and can shut down almost anyone, he's a genuine defender.

Murphy, Grigg and Bower
They can kick, Bower tends to kick nice weighted passes instead of low bullets but most of his kicks end up in the possession of our players, Grigg is much the same but has an awkward style where his hand position on the ball is unorthodox, Murphy gets that many kicks he is bound to mess up a couple, often messes up some at then end of the game when his legs are tired, another preseason, that'll be gone. These blokes are actually great kicks and great players still building up to their best.

age is no excuse for missing a target 20 meters away or for not chasing your opponent.

IMO

russell- makes too many basic mistakes, like kicking and handballing, tries hard but is an athlete playing football, not a natural footballer

wiggins- does all the basics right and gets the most out of himself, really hard worker but does not have a big enough impact on games

bannister- 1 good game, 3 bad games, inconsistent which is very frustrating, prone to have brain fades.

bower- prone to having brain fades, tries to do too much, rather than beat 1 man then give the ball off, he tries to take on 3 or 4, he plays low percentage football.

Isn't Wiggo only 25... arn't players generally in their prime 24-28, also a player of his type generally play good footy into their 30's...

He'd be about that, without looking it up. Good player, and a great mark overhead. Would have him in my team every week. :thumbsu:

Yes because every player should have Judds skill ..or there is no place for them in the team .

So we should have gotten rid of Kouta all those years ago when we first got him?

Do you expect ppl to be able to play good footy as soon as their umbilical cord is cut?

The good thing about youth is the ability to improve...
