Players' Contract Status 2011

Re: Players' Contract Statuses 2011

Hate to be a pedant (Ok, I love it), but the reason the English plural is "status" is that the original Latin plural is also "status".

[warning: explanatory dorkiness begins] Latin has five "declensions", or ways that noun and adjectives change to make plurals, etc. (This is one reason why Latin is a bastard to learn). Only the second declension makes the plural with "-i" (e.g. alumnus/alumni). "Status", although it looks like a second declension noun, is actually fourth declension, so the plural is written the same - in Latin, though, you'd pronounce the original "status" but the plural "statoos", and dictionaries will put a little thing over the "u" in the plural to show that it's long. This is why the Americans started writing "statuses" and "censuses". But let's not pick on them - we've all said "agendas" or "curriculums" or "a phenomena", or something like that at some point in our lives :) [Dorkiness ends]

Not true. My gramatical correctness, even during late night pub duscussions is legned.:D:D

Re: Players' Contract Statuses 2011

Clubs are going to be spoilt for choice over the next two years if we don't sign a few up soon. GWS, I would think, will be licking their lips knowing that they can/will get a very good player from the Pies at some stage.

Out of contract in 2011
Pendle
Swan
Thomas
Rounds
N Brown
J. Thomas
Blair
Keefe

2012
Ball (won't leave)
Goldy
Krak (doubt he will leave)
O'Brien
Beams
Reid
Wellingham
Sidey
Cloke
Shaw
Young*
Reed*

Obrien has just extended his contract till the end of 2012.

So really Thomas,Brown,Swan and Pendles should extend as well.

We are on the cusp of a dynasty, why would good players want to leave the biggest club in the land, establish a a bond to win a few flags together to go to a dead beat place like western sydney and never play in another flag .Aside from money players want to play in premierships, going to western sydney means kiss that good bye.

Besides collingwood can and will look after the players as far as money goes,we are the richest club in the land.

For all we know maybe the players are happy to re sign its the powers to be are probably stalling for now ?

You play this game for team success. I can understand if players on the fringe or outside the team want to switch clubs for more game time, but any player who leaves the club just for money I'm not sure we want them around anyway. To me there is a huge team spirit not only from the players but, staff and fans, it's going to be hard to break that.

Many Players Out of Contract after Next Season

Was in Herald Sun but Can't find article on there Site:confused:

But there are many Good Players out of Contract after next season in:

  • Luke Ball
  • Pendles
  • Harry O
  • Ben Reid
  • Wellingham
  • Beams
  • Sidebottom
Forgot the Rest and Boleded the One's I think will Stay.

Your Thoughts on this and be hard for Bucks to do in his 1st Season as Head Coach

Re: Many Players Out of Contract after Next Season

I would think Reid and Sidy would be more of a chance to be poached. Big dollars would be thrown at them.

No good worrying so far out, they could all have 2-3 premierships so it would be hard to split them. Loving our biggest problem is keeping all of our stars!!!

But can we keep them all? i just think they will offer $$ that we can not match for those 2, nothing to do with them personally (Pies for life comments) just the fact they are wanted.

Re: Many Players Out of Contract after Next Season

What's the status on Reid's brother? He any good? I thought he played for Sydney, so at least they'd be in the same state if he went up to GWS :(

Think of the children!

Sam I think?
Has been playing well for the Swans. Pretty highly rated on their board. have not seen many of his games so only going by "sentiment" of respected Swans posters.

The same thing was said for this season and it's looking like everyone is going to remain signed up. With what looks like a bigger salary cap next season it's possible to keep everyone in the side together, especially with guys like Davis on new contracts.

From reports Leon was on a decent size contract this year but also on the veterans list. I'd expect a reduced contract next year.

Jollys' 4 year deal (reportedly worth $400k per year) will finish at the end of 2013 and any new deal wont be the same size due to his age.

Dids, Swanny & Taz will all qualify for vets list by 2013 under the new propsed rules. It's not clear yet what the concession is but mentioned as a percentage of salary cap compared to 50% of salary.

With players out of contract at the end of 2012, we have scope to keep all the ones that want to stay.

I think we will not only have the cap available to keep everyone but to recruit on top of that. We can't and won't match any $1.5m annual offers from the new clubs but we will be able to pay everyone a fair salary. We saved 2 200 game salaries for this year, Ball's salary drops, the cap goes up and we had space to begin with. We may have issues in 3 years if we win more flags because young players have continued to improve but that won't hit out of the blue and we will most likely have a few expensive players ready to retire then anyway.

The least of my concerns is the salary cap at the moment. We have people good enough to manage that and unlike a few clubs we haven't been r*ped by our players and their managers forcing us to start behind the 8 ball.

This is the thread where we document how long current Collingwood players are contracted for, using media articles as source material. If you're after the 2010 version of the thread, here it is. For 2009, look no further.

This will take some time to put together, so expect quite a few edits before it looks like anything worthwhile. As always, links to articles detailing new contracts are very much appreciated.

I posted this in another thread but probably better here.

Players out of contract at the end of this year include cloke, Reid, beams, sidey, goldy, wellers, krak, caff, ball, obrien, fasolo, Taz and i don't know about most of our other youngsters.

How tough a job has Geoff Walsh got?

Is this right in terms of when players qualify for the Veterans list? Red currently out of contract

Now? Didak, Johnno, Taz?
2013 Swan
2014 Maxy
2015 Cloke, Shaw, O'brien
2016 Pendle and Thomas

As mentioned in the quote above, still quite a few to sign. Interesting to see who we consider we can cover to free up some space. If 2012 is considered a strong draft, we probably need to offer someone who can net us an earlyish second round pick and free up some cash.

Cutting players who are on low cash and not looking for pay rises won't help us out that much.
