Collingwood is pleased to announce that young defender Matthew Scharenberg has agreed to a three year contract extension.

The highly regarded South Australian has committed to Collingwood until the end of the 2018 season.

(believe Howe contract is for 3 years - if someone could confirm that would be much appreciated). I've been asked what the numbers represent. They are primary list & rookie list numbers in each of the years. The 39 equals total we have in the squad at this point in time.

Some players whose contracts are due for renewal in 2016 really need to play well.
From the list I would say that the following may be expendable:
Fasolo
Blair
Goodyear
Macaffer
White
Witts
Swan (I would give him another year)

Strikes me as an early call on some, especially Witts & Fasolo. Certainly don't expect all of them to go but history tells us some will likely want to seek greener pastures (more opportunity) by end of next year.
