One.

Brad Smith Subiaco, a 25 years old Full Forward.
None from CD.

From the Colts/U19 Premiership teams, WA had none from Peel or South, SANFL had 5 from West Adelaide, 1 from Norwood.

Is this a problem? Are the league teams too full of country Victorian/ex-AFL has beens/never will bes? Or was it just a poor year from the West?

Between actual 21+ players and AFL reserves filling these sides, it can't be too surprising at all that premiership sides don't have a lot of draftees. Jacob Surjan struggled to crack Central's senior side and he's got a year of AFL experience on any of this year's draftees. You're really only going to get recycled players at senior level.

At junior levels across the board, entry age draftees can come from anywhere without rhyme or reason. eg. Ryan Griffen has come from one of SA's worst-performed regional club (Pt Elliott/Goolwa), and the SANFL's worst performing club in our lifetimes, to be #3 in the draft!

I think Priddis and Rumble will get picked up in the rookie draft as well as a few other WAFL players like Jones, Gauci etc

There is no way known that Gauci will be picked in the Rookie draft, he was an embarrassment at the screening camp, even tried to cheat in the sprints and got caught. On the other hand O'Brien was outstanding and will get a shot as a Rookie.

Can't comment on the SA guys, but from a WA point of view (particularly SF) I guess it went pretty much as expected. If Shannon Cox had added a bit more commitment to his ability and if Aaron Bowers had gotten serious about his fitness BEFORE state screening instead of after, I guess they would have been more of a chance. I am very surprised that Bowers is not more highly rated given his size and athletic ability.

Of the 7 other u/18's from SF, Scott Delmenico was probably the best chance, but didn't nominate. Obviously it has been decided that the Hams' twins are too small.

With Peel, I was very impressed with Ryan Nye early in the year - I guess his injury counted against him.

From the SF league guys, I would have thought Hadyn North was ahead of Clint Jones in terms of development, but???
