David Rhys-Jones another significant one who has not had a mention, actually done ok from the Swans over the years when you consider Diesel, Barry Mitchell and Bernie Evans although the latter 2 were at the end of their careers.

We looked after them by giving them Simon Minton-Connell, Warren Mckenzie and Darren Ogier in return to keep up the goodwill.:D

Greg Wells atleast played in a Premiership, plus Melbourne has given us some good players over the years, Brent Heaver was to bad as well, Apart from warnock everyone we ever got from Fremantle have been duds. A Few good names mentioned but alot of real Duds mentioned as well. I was asking for the best players we got, thanks.
Pretty sure Jon Dorotich was a South Freo boy.

Never had a prob with either south or east fremantle, but the mob in purple keep sending us anchors..
Did Greg Wells go back and play for Melbourne when he left us?
No I dont believe he did, I can remember reading somewhere we gave Melbourne $200k in mid 1980 to get him over which would of been huge money back then for a 30year old who retired in 1982!!

Agree was a massive amount for that time, he did play in the 81 GF but wasnt good enough to play in the 82 GF, alot of money for a player who didnt play that long. Justin Madden would have to be the top player we ever got from Essendon, beats Jordan Bannister and Glenn Hawker by a fair margin..

Agree Completely, the Bolt was a great player for us, and ver funny as well, was one of my favorites of that time. I see Dennis Collins name mentioned, who did he play for before us? What cut his career short?

Don't think Digby Morrell has been mentioned yet...he was servicable. The man with the porn star name. Now there's a new threat right there, AFL players with porn star names? mmm :)

Dennis Collins was from Franko Cozzo land...Footescray!

My apologies Digby Morrell has been mentioned.

Just a few more worthy of a mention. I know the topic was "the best" however I think we've nearly named every player ever to come from another club.

Rod Galt St Kilda
Peter Bedford South Melb
Peter Sartori Fitzroy
Jason Saddington Sydney
Mark Arceri North Melb
Mark Athorn Footscray Fitzroy Sydney
Glen Bowyer Hawthorn
Richard Hadley Brisbane
Barnaby French Fremantle
Scott Freeborn North Melb

My apologies once again if these blokes have already been discussed. A few of these players went o.k.

Barnaby came from Port Adelaide.. There where some players in that list that did play there part at Carlton, unsure if they would be in the Best lol

Funny thing was, bloke could really play. He was no talent-free hitman. Just got mildly annoyed too easy.
That day he got reported against Carlton, (the Perovic one), got reported at Windy Hill (U19s), so both of us ended up at Brunton Avenue on a Monday night.

Anyhoo, in those days the accused had to sit in the naughty boys room on the 2nd floor with everyone's favourite defender Ian Finlay. In those days video was not allowed to be shown on Telly til the verdict was handed down, essentially based on umpires evidence.

We got chatting, and he was a really nice guy. You could see the devil in his eyes, but he wasn't an idiot. You could almost say that was the culture down St Kilda way in those days.

There was probably 30-50 or so Saints fans out the front supporting him, not a cracker for me, my hearing finished later than his, and he got 12 weeks.

I got 6.

Story goes that he was unhappy about lack of playing time for us during 1979 season and missed out on premiership and was cleared to Richmond. Played for the Tigers in the 1980 Qualifying Final win against us and was dropped for the Grand Final/Premiership team for missing a scheduled appointment with the Richmond psychologist on the Thursday before the Grand Final.

Why was he meeting with the psychologist 2 days before the Grand Final....... perhaps he had ongoing issues after Robbie Muir gangster slapping him in 1978??
