90% of you people on here have **** all of an idea! Raymond-Gone, Thompson-Retire, Harves-Retire. The rest are up in the air. There are more that will get the chop or retire, but we can't speculate at this time about those ones. Harves, I would love to see go round again, but after this injury and his form slump since the Richmond game I would seriously doubt whether he would continue on. McQualter should get the axe, but he is contracted so it may be said he is required, although I don't know why. We have very little duds, but we have a drop-off of players from our first 22 to the fringe players. Sydney have a very even mix and so do Geelong but, the fact remains, we have a certain gutter region from our first choice side to our fringe players. This is an area we need to address and Ross should go about doing this before you idiots (in general) call for the heads of Gilbert, Sweeney and the like.
I find it interesting how your mentioning dropping players like mcqualter who have only played 1 or 2 games this year.
What will that achieve? We are going to finish 9th (Adelaide > Collingwood) and even if we somehow manage to finish 8th, its no success.

The players who haven't played this year such as: Mcqualter, Gwilt, Sweeney etc haven't been the ones costing us games and performance.
I find it hard to believe you could be accusing players who don't play (the 'fringe players') when we have players like:
Fiora, Birss, X.Clarke, R.Clarke, Gilbert in the team.

CAn we please get rid of Gehrig and have a forward line of Riewoldt, Kosi, Goddard and Watts.
Goddard?! The kid's never played forward in his life?! Why throw him forward after he's developed as a rebounding defender the last few seasons?

We have to be careful who choose to delist, with a handful of players retiring, opportunities will arise. Will be interesting if Lyon culls a few who he deems are not up to the 'style' he's wants to emanate.

The players that will be looked over at seasons end:
Thompson - love him as a player, but poor form and injuries this year = retire of his own accord. (Can't keep both him and harvey)
Harvey - could and should go on another year. But the decision will be totally his.
Gehrig - if he wants to play on, offer him a 1 year contract. Like ross lyon said '60-goal-a-year forwards are v hard to find'.
M Clarke - he's there as much as a ruck coach as a player. 1 year contract as insurance if gardiner doesn't come up next season.
Gwilt - worth keeping, versatile but not a KP defender. Would like to see him on a HF flank - tackles well and can hopefully add some grunt. Originally an onballer and not as slow as people think - midfield rotation perhaps.
McQualter - still a top 20 draft pick, if harvey and thompson go, hold onto him for another season. Seems to lack speed and agility, not sure if lyon rates him.
Ferguson - impressed me on friday night, kept an inform lecras pretty quiet. Hugeton can't have long left - possibly our next 3rd key defender. They must see something in him to have held onto him this long.
Fiora - more moments of brilliance rather than madness this year. Overall has done well this year.
Blake - Frustrating player at times, but goes unoticed when he does a good job tagging. Unsure whether to keep him, but not in our best 22 imo.
Phil Raymond - gone. In and out of casey seniors/reserves. No impact that i can see in the match reports.
Birss - looks a good 2nd tier midfielder. PLayed a ripper against adelaide and sydney. Hard at it. Keep him.
Voss - tough decision. Might not have speed/endurance to suit lyon's style.
Watts - has been kicking goals regularly in the vfl. Deserves a solid crack if/when gehrig retires.
Brooks - Imo lyon doesn't rate him, has been in good form for casey, might be in touble if gehrig and m clarke retires.
R clarke - i think he's contracted. At times looks like the slowest aborigine to ever play the game! Tough call, has been getting better, but doubt he's in our best 22.

Rookies

Attard - i think he really suits lyon's gamestyle, hence why he's picked him 20 times this year. Hard at it, good tackler and good one on one.
C Jones - fast and tackles well, needs to work on disposal. Tough call.
Van rheenan - obviously developing. Hard to tell at this stage.
Geary - has had some good games for casey. Good performer at the u18 carnival. Worth another look.
Eddy - Haven't heard much, possibly delist.
Wall - didn't get a look in at sydney, unsure.

If there's one thing stkilda should do next year - rookie list stefan garruba from casey. Having a good season, fast, good skills and goal sense. Remember he came from sydney where over the last 3 years its been v hard to crack into their side!

Oh yeah and Gilbert - stupid question..

Whats this crap with Mcqualter there are reasons why hes not getting a game hes no good. And wanting to trade/delist fiora the clarkes and gilbert get a brain fiora has had a good year Gilbert been our one of our most improved and hopefully both clarke boys can have a full pre seaon and then we can make judgement this time next year.

Gehrig never played permanent forward until about his 9th season, seemed to work out ok. Part of the reason we have struggled to kick goals this year is because teams crowd our forward line, we have no one who can kick a goal from 45 out.

Gehrig - if he wants to play on, offer him a 1 year contract. Like ross lyon said '60-goal-a-year forwards are v hard to find'.
Here's an interesting stat

If we finish in the 8 at the expense of Adelaide, Gehrig will have kicked the grand total of 19 goals against the other 7 teams in the 8.

Those type of players aren't hard to find.

To many players with no future in that list + a few senior regulars who i don't rate. I hope the club is smart enough to chop most of these quickly from the list. Never want to do a Richmond or an Essendon and hold on to low quality players because sooner or later we'll bottom out with no future in site.

Axe the duds, recruit the kids, not washed up has beens.

The policy should be an Athlete first, skills second with a focus on midfielders first, then KPP players. medium to fast midfielders with a good frame..... SKILLS BE DAMNED.. In time they'll develop.

Anyone remember John Blakey of the 90s? He by definition is the perfect type of player we could do with in our midfielder. Must find these players.

How strongs the draft? I cant see us picking more than 5 or 6 and maybe rotating a few rookies. Given 'retirements' we might not cut any

Vossy is an interesting one. IMO he is a great player and vital to St.Kilda, in that he can go down back or up forward, where the team needs him. Obviously, Voss is not in favour with Ross Lyon, but he has been great for them over the stretch and should be given another year.
Delisted group should include:
Brooks
M.CLarke
Blake - has given St.Kilda nothing for a long time, and if he is simply a tagger now, his days are numbered.
Gwilt - has been disappointing
Thompson - unfortunately his time has come to finish up.

I'm going to name players who annoy me not all through lack of skill but because of lack of awareness and effort and just plain stupidity. Niggling injuries be damned we all know isn't cutting it.

Goddard - No secret i never liked him, i know hes out for the year but now with a knee reconstruction hes going to be even worse when he comes back in next year. Poor decision making and deathly slow speed...

Maguire - Got huge wraps his whole career. I could never see it, still don't. Yep, hes a good mark and kick and corageous as. Shame hes one of the most undicipined, mentally lazy players you'll ever come across.

Ferguson - Didn't look likely tonight, hes been on the list long enough, draft a kid and hope cos clearly hes not cutting it.

Voss - Always like him, unfortunate hes not cutting it anymore, time to go.

Raph Clarke - He was never good, still isn't and most likely never will be.

Hamill - He should of retired himself already. I love the guy as a footballer BUT CLEARLY he won't cut it again at the top level.

Brooks - no.

Mcqualter - He should be getting a senior game by now, if hes not cutting it by now, then why persist?

Goddard is easily in our starting 22 at full fitness this is just stupid what ur saying hell get over it soon enough

Maguire i dont really like him either he is pretty shit, he cant stop the guns and when he goes to the smaller players he is to small

Voss Retire you terrible
Fergeson till the last seconds of the game on the weekend kept the second best wc forward to two goals good effort keep him

Raph clarke keep him he got injured to much and is just coming good
Hamill RETIRE
MACQUALTER to small and to slow to cut it
brooks the future and showed sum potential last year against brisbane
strech opposition backlines
