Who shot who in the what now?

Today the club revealed its tribute to all of the players who have played at least one game for the club.

They've put all of their names up on a wall in the shed. So alongside the names of club legends such as Rehn, Modra, McLeod, we also have Tongerie, Saliba, Mail etc.

Some of the newblokes that have debued this year in Watts, Bock etc are also up there with room for more names.

Personally I think its too "arty" with names all over the place. Maybe it would have been better to do it the old fashined way. Also disappointed that we haven't got the names of the coaches. After all they are also part of our history.

I agree with that. Just on the subject of original crows...I read this on the AFC site:

Crows step back in time

As part of the Adelaide Football Club’s commitment to Heritage week and in acknowledging our Club’s history, 20 players from the present playing squad donned the Guernseys worn by the players that represented the Crows in the first official match v Hawthorn played on the 22nd March 1991.

The induction to the AFL was a memorable one for the Adelaide Football Club as they defeated the eventual premier by 84 points, 24-11 (155) to 9-15 (69).

The individually framed jumpers have been sitting proudly on display in the Club’s gymnasium and it was fitting that they were bought out for this photo during Heritage Week in recognition of the players that played in the Club’s first game for premiership points.

Nigel Smart, who was the sole surviving member of the first game until his retirement earlier this year, is the only player in the photo wearing his original Guernsey.

The 20 players who represented the Crows in the first official match were: Grantley Fielke, Darel Hart, Eddie Hocking, Rod Jameson, Andrew Jarman, John Klug, Scott Lee, Bruce Lindner, Bruce Lindsay, David Marshall, Rodney Maynard, Chris McDermott (Captain), Tony McGuinness (Vice-Captain), Peter McIntyre, Romano Negri, Nigel Smart, Darren Smith, Robbie Thompson, Simon Tregenza, Tom Warhurst.

All of the above players with the exception of Darren Smith (interstate on business) will be recognised with a cavalcade prior to Friday night’s game against the Kangaroos.

Club CEO Steven Trigg said:

“We’re thrilled to be able to recognise the significant contribution of our first team in this way. Not too many clubs can put their current players in the Guernseys worn by their first ever team. We are proud to be able to honour these players in this manner”

The players wearing Club’s original jumpers in the photo are:

Back Row (L to R): Tyson Stenglein, Trent Hentschel, Matthew Clarke, Ken McGregor, Mark Stevens, Ben Rutten.
Second Row (L to R): Brett Burton, Jason Torney, Nathan Bock, Nathan Bassett, Jule Jericho, Martin Mattner, Andrew McLeod, Matthew Bode.
Front Row (L to R): Brent Reilly, Graham Johncock, Ben hart, Mark Ricciuto, Simon Goodwin, Nigel Smart.

The photo was is a very nice gesture.

Does anyone know what is the criteria was for selcting the players for the photo?

I thought they tried to matched the current players and their jumper number to the originals.

ie Stenglien wears # 20 as did John Klug
Mcgregor wears 16 as did David Marshall
However I noticed Hentschel who wears 37

I have my Footy Record from Round 1, 1991 and my current AFC team list and the players numbers from R 1 91, don't match the photographed players. We didnt have a # 37 against the Hawks.

We did have a # 1 in Negri, but I dont see Smith in the pic.

Yeah, I'm going to go check it out properly Friday night, just to check where Skippy's name is.
And does anyone know how much the Heritage guernseys are, that is, if they are actually available! Thanks!

today at about 3pm, there were 49 available, and they were $120.

Wanna buy me one while you're at it? :p

Got one this arvo... have it on Friday.

Now, how does one get signatures for these guernseys?

I don't go to many AFL matches these days, and I understand that the Shed is for members only after each match.

That makes 2 of us who have one.

I'm gonna collect mine before the game on Friday and try and hopefully get it signed before the game on Friday night.

Failing that I may have to pay someone to go to training for me and get it signed!
