Thread title says it all.

Gerard Pique - CB to RB - Thought this since the Man United days and his performances for country havnt changed my mind. Looks great marauding forward, puts in a decent challenge but is fairly poor in the air and isnt the greatest of clearance players in case you havnt noticed (atleast 3 OG in the calendar year for him). One of the best parts about his game is his ability to get forward and this would get a whole lot more attention down at RB.

Carlton Cole - Striker to CB - If Carlton Cole walked into any academy today as a 17 year old, 99 clubs out of 100 would turn him into a defender. For mine he would be a rich mans Chris Samba. Carlton Cole even as a striker is West Hams best defender from set pieces. A beast in the air. Very quick for a player his size too so could match up on many forwards. Strong as a bull, big long legs and hes black. Has every tool needed to be a CB. Obviously the moves too drastic to make now but I feel Chelseas academy dropped the ball on this one.

Maicon - RB to RW - He plays both anyway but because of his versatility he gets stuck at RB. If he played as a RW where he deserves to be he would be a top 5 player in the world if not top 3 but because he spends so much time loitering at RB hes not given the respect he deserves. His enormous amount of talent has actually hurt him in the long run

Rafael Marquez - CB to CM - I know he plays CM now for New York but IMO he could of spent most if not all his career as a defensive minded midfielder and been world class at it. His long balls are delicious and hes a great reader of the play

Others i think are

Michael Carrick - CM to RB
Jason Roberts - Striker to CB
Karl Henry - CM to Al Qaeda operative

Pique is too slow and lumbering to play at RB I think.

Anyway Meireles needs to move from RW to CM.

And Corluka, Wes Brown, Ivanovic etc arnt. Many players play RB without blistering speed nowadays. I think he would get by especially now that Mascherano is at the club

He is too big and too slow even compared to those players. They all have a smaller centre or gravity than him which makes a big difference. He needs to be the player in the box, not the one running by the touchline feeding crosses in. I doubt he can dribble aswell which is another hindrance.

Alves and Sergio Ramos are so much better options at RB than Pique is.

Pique is amazing with the ball at his feet. Dribbling is the least of his worries.

He has excellent ball retention.

Alves is a better option at RB but well hes a top 3 RB in the world so its hardly a fair comparison.

IMO Pique is very similar to Corluka in most aspects of defending with the main difference being Piques better technical skill but thats just me.

Well there you go, he would have to move club and country to play at RB.

Pique is the biggest player on both teams he plays with and that means he should be central and not on the wing. To play as a maurading RB means you need massive fitness levels and I doubt he has the tank required. Coming up against nimble wingers would not end well for him.

Nasri RW>CAM, he is sooooooooooooooooooo much more than a winger. He will go straight into Fabregas' role once Barca force Arsenal to sell Cesc with their torturous and sadistic ways.

Godzke and other Barca supporters, what are your thoughts on Pique playing at RB as Embers says he should?

I reckon that's bullshit. Strong in the air. Not saying it's his #1 asset but it's not his weak spot. Got caught out a couple of times over the year, but in ALL the big games he's been very reliable in the air.

CB to DM, not RB. He can play a decent long ball but you never see him crossing. Not a fanciful dribbler either which means he's not going to beat many fullbacks dribbling.

Just a great option to have down back when the opposition midfield are man marking your CMs and there's a paddock for him to run through.

Maicon - RB to RW - He plays both anyway but because of his versatility he gets stuck at RB. If he played as a RW where he deserves to be he would be a top 5 player in the world if not top 3 but because he spends so much time loitering at RB hes not given the respect he deserves. RB is no different to RW in the way Inter lineup (or did lineup, haven't watched what Benitez has done with them). Same as Zanetti. LB/LWB/LW.

Would enjoy watching Bale and Maicon in the same team. Best players of the wing-back position for each side of the pitch. Would be a salivating prospect to watch.

Rafael Marquez - CB to CM - I know he plays CM now for New York but IMO he could of spent most if not all his career as a defensive minded midfielder and been world class at it. His long balls are delicious and hes a great reader of the play
His passing in his last 6 months for Barca were ****ing atrocious. And that's as a traditional CB. His distribution was just plain disgusting but granted we have high expectations and that for most of his career at FCB he was pretty good on the ball. In a club like NY (and in that league, for that matter) he could play any position.

I'd agree to say CB to DM, not CM though. Not for reference to his European career anyway.

Others i think are

Michael Carrick - CM to RB
Jason Roberts - Striker to CB
Karl Henry - CM to Al Qaeda operative
Sergio Ramos - RB to CB
Lass Diarra - DM to RB

He is a bit. Wouldn't say RB is his position

Agreed. But that does not mean he's suitable out wide, if he's not a CB he's a DM capable of pushing forward as a part-time CF target.

Can't say I've seen a central defender displays the footskills and control that he did for his goal vs. Inter last season at Nou Camp.

Alves is a better option at RB but well hes a top 3 RB in the world so its hardly a fair comparison.

ROFL!

He's a top 5 RWB. SO much different to a RB. Would've been the #1 RB of the world in 08/09 but has fallen off badly. His crosses are all over the shop, he's a defensive liability (hence why Busquets has squeezed into a third central defender role, so as to cover Alves) and he's highly indisciplined.

Plenty of RBs out there who are more competent and consistent defensively than Alves. Can guarantee you will not find a defender out of position more often than Alves. Not so much an issue for a RWB, but it is for a RB. At least in our team it is.

In last year's 2nd Classico at the Bernabeu, Guardiola panicked with Alves and he's disgraceful defending (knowing Ronaldo would prefer drifting down the left side of the pitch that Alves would be on) and decided to play Alves as a RW with Puyol as the RB. Caught everyone by surprise and didn't really work that well. Pep just didn't have the balls to drop him.

Nasri RW>CAM, he is sooooooooooooooooooo much more than a winger. He will go straight into Fabregas' role once Barca force Arsenal to sell Cesc with their torturous and sadistic ways.
Or once Cesc gets what he wants...
... and to cap it off, a goal.com article from yours truly!

Speaking to Cope.es, the Spain World Cup 2010 winner hinted that, while happy at the Emirates, he would continue to chase a transfer back to his native Catalonia.

"My answer in that moment was Barcelona and I still think that I wasn't wrong because it is a dream I have had since I was a child," Fabregas said

"I am happy about the whole episode. It couldn't be, but I still think it was a good opportunity, but I am happy in Arsenal, I have a leadership role.
Cope.es is the source and I really don't care on the authenticity. Just posted it for a larf.

Also a reason why FCB went after a solid RB/RWB this summer ;)

Alves form last season raised serious question marks and Puyol had major concessions playing out wide (actually mentioned it a few times during his contract negotiations last season how he wanted to be assured a central role).

I did mention in another thread Agger should be playing as a CF.

On a national scale, Josh Kennedy should NOT be a striker, he has the touch of a rapist, convert him to a CB, now.

For Sunderland's sake, Steed Malbranque gets thrown all over the shop, keep him central, when he's wide he isn't as effective, and Kieran Richardson, the LB experiment is over, but hey, it's him or Georgy McCartney.
