McGinnity?Nick Maxwell's bump straight down the middle of an Eagles player (can't remember his name) in a preseason game played a key part of the far stricter rules around the bump
The Joel Bowden one was a classic, had to be changed after that. The move would have been replicated late in the game in close ones constantly after that.

Was Blicavs first doing that? Thought he copied Jordan Lewis. Do you remember dates?
Gary Rohan sliding below the knees rule.
Is it sliding or is it too high? I still dont know. To say this one needs some tweaking would be an understatement
It was happening long before either of those two
I think: they brought the rule to double penalties when Long took out Troy Simmonds in 2000. Lynch's penalty was the first to be doubled, but he was retiring anyway.
And the thing is that it is likely to happen again, but with players abusing the 30 seconds set shot rule, using up 28 seconds then passing it, then repeat.
I know it's not as bad because the oppo are actually allowed to try to intercept; but it will still happen, and it will ruin a game
And that's probably when they changed it to suspensions not being served in the pre-season.Re: the Long suspension, iirc it was 4 weeks but 3 of those were served in the pre-season comp so he only missed one proper match!
Yeah got off scott free too. Lucky for us it was McGinnity and not someone more ...valuable to the sideMcGinnity?
Dog hit, went straight past the ball and broke his jaw I believe
First that came to mind for me.James Clement - hands in the back
Rule came in because Sanderlands was giving away free kicks for engaging the third man up (blizcavs) like a ruckman which was a free for a block .It was happening long before either of those two
Your 5. is based on Stynes/Biglands injuriesWith the current interest in Luke Shuey's free kick I thought it might be time to list players who have caused the rules to be changed.
1. Kevin Bartlett. Was adept at bouncing the ball the instant he was tackled to get a free kick. Rule was changed to make the act of bouncing part of possession.
2. Joel Selwood & Luke Shuey. Are adept at raising their arms when tackled to make the tackle too high. Rules changed to prevent that but perhaps needs some tweaking.
3. Brent Guerra & 'that Richmond player' who were adept at conceding a rushed behind to prevent a goal. Rule changed to prevent deliberate rushing of behinds. Very subjective rule.
4. Jordan Lewis (& others). Were adept at getting advantage going 3rd man up at ball ups. Rules changed to prevent that. Unfortunately the changes were not thought through resulting in stupid outcomes.
5. Player whose name I forget. (Anyone remember?) Did ACL in centre ball up. Rules changed to stop long run ups by the rucks. Might have been linked to the rubber bounce pad that was used for a while.
Any other nominations?
The rule was introduced after Lindsay Thomas broke Rohan's leg but he was actually going for the ball. But this was after a few incidents where Adam Goodes slid into players with knees first and it looked deliberate.
Always thought Freo in 2015 was fair enough. 1st on the ladder and couldn’t drop any lower. Literally everything to lose and nothing to gain. Doing it in 2013 was a little more “outrageous”.Not players, but Ross Lyon and Brad Scott's resting of players in the final H&A game is the reason we now have the bye.
