Out of the taller players i think Matthew Taberner and Nick Rodda. Surprised they didn't go but i think the biggest shock of all was Garlett. Hopefully he trains well with the Bombers and they give him a chance

Missing out might be the kick he needs.
Hopefully he comes over and trains the house down, but his recent comments still leave me unconvinced the penny has dropped.

I'd love to be wrong, as he'd join a long line of ratbags whose talents were wasted - except unlike Fev and co his never got started.

Obviously Sam Colquhoun was widely tipped to be picked, and by some even as high as 20 or so. But this article in The Advertiser (Adelaide) is surely overstating things a bit! :-

"after Central District running machine Sam Colquhoun's shock failure to find an AFL home on Thursday.
In one of the biggest draft snubs of all time, All-Australian Under-18 half-back Colquhoun's name wasn't among the 94 called on the Gold Coast".

It's certainly not the SA way to understate things when rating their own, that's for sure! Clearly their circumstances were different but the snubbing of Dayle Garlett this year was a far bigger story than the Colquhoun one, even though in the end a lot of people weren't surprised by it. This was the 27th National Draft and there would have been plenty of other examples of far greater snubs over the years.

Nothing like a small exageration. However, it was a surprise. Port would now have the inside running as he is training with them. I wonder if it will actually mean anything?

Port did very well the other night with all three players looking excellent prospects. If they end up getting Colquhoun they will be well pleased with themselves.

In Adelaide you have 2 papers, The Crowtiser and the SAtiser. Neither are worth reading.

Man you have got to feel for Shane Nelson
Why?

The boy has it all in front of him, but for his own reasons he has informed the clubs that he will continue to practice his motor cross skills, regardless of an AFL contract.

Clubs don't pump 200k into an asset that might break a leg doing a sick heelclicker.

I read an article about Shane Nelson in which he reported himself (and his family) devastated by the death of a close friend in a motorbike accident. Surely he might consider that, if it can happen to a friend, it might happen to him. Even if he does not consider it, he can be assured that ALL AFL clubs will, and they will steer clear of him if he states that he will continue to ride motocross. Best of luck with the motocross.

The crowstiser writer, Andrew Crapall is called that for many good reasons. In fact that whole rag isn't fit to to wrap the veggie peelings in.

You blokes should be chuffed, you've aced the FA/Trade/Draft period ... :thumbsu:

Had Colquhoun not been completely embarrassed by Jack Billings in the VM game then he might have got drafted. But as it stood, when asked to play one on one in that game, his opponent was BOG and won VM the match.

Its no doubt it was a surprise he wasnt drafted, but I think the queries over his game style are valid enough that it wasnt the massive shock people are making it out to be. You've got to be more than just a good uncontested kick and Im not sure he is at this point.

Banfield is an absolute jet. Played junior footy with him and if it wasn't for his constant injuries this year he would've had more people take note of him for sure. Never seen someone produce magic on a field like he can

Tasmanians in the AFL

All the Tasmanians who I thought were good chances to be drafted were, but of some of the others, I think Josh Woolley might have been the unluckiest. Still could get rookied in the PSD.
