Anyone heard anything on Joel Tippett? Any clubs interested?
KURT Tippett's controversial push to join Sydney has taken another twist, with the premier also eyeing his brother, Joel.

West Adelaide coach Andrew Collins - who has helped revive Joel's AFL aspirations - said the Swans were one of three AFL clubs to show strong interest in rookie-listing the key defender at the December 11 draft, along with St Kilda and Carlton.

So Essendon get a top 10 talent as the last pick on their list?

I'd imagine over 90% of players picked after pick 50 are a bust.

They could sack him halfway through the season and have lost nothing, nor have their culture questioned - as everyone knows he is a bad boy Essendon will take a punt on turning around. If he is sacked, it will be Essendon did their best - but he couldn't commit. If he is a success, they are lauded for turning around someone's life as well as getting a top end talent for next to nicks,

It's the ultimate no-lose situation.

Had Colquhoun not been completely embarrassed by Jack Billings in the VM game then he might have got drafted. But as it stood, when asked to play one on one in that game, his opponent was BOG and won VM the match.
Surely more to it than that. Mayes and Whitfield got towelled up by Luke McDonald (another underager) yet still went very early.

Does anyone have any info on Jason Pongracic? What kind of player is he?
I used to teach down at Koo Wee Rup, where Pongracic comes from. He was highly regarded down that way since he started high school.
He plays an inside role in the midfield most of the time and can take a very nice mark. Don't expect too many screamers over the pack, but he manages to outbody most defenders that normally pick up mids. His kicking for goal is usually pretty nice. Up at QEO this year he plonked a couple after having a very ordinary game for most of the day.
Some guys remark negatively about his kicking, which isn't perfect. However, he plays a bit like former Hawk Des Meagher or former Blue Barry Armstrong: as a mid he gets the ball out first and worries about where to later. Give him a little time and his kicking isn't that bad. However, his first priority is to get the ball going in his team's direction.

What kind of player is Nelson? Why hasn't he been picked up yet?
Apparently Nelson is into car and motorbike racing and isn't bad at it at all. A lot of clubs were scared that their precious choice would smear himself all over some road, like at least 1 of his mates has done.
I saw him play a number of times this year on TV for West Perth and he looked to have improved his game a long way. He is still pretty light and may have tackles broken at AFL level that he hasn't in the WAFL, but he runs hard and usually hits the target. He isn't slow at all, although his thinking is not always as quick as his legs. I saw him play midfield, usually on the outerside of things, back pocket, HBF and wing. He doesn't have the body to be an inside player: he'd get killed with his frame if he tried to play that role. He wasn't bad overhead, but marking was clearly not the part of his game that he spent most time on. He did spoil reasonably. He averaged well over 20 possessions per game and maybe half of his possessions would be contested ones.

All the Tasmanians who I thought were good chances to be drafted were, but of some of the others, I think Josh Woolley might have been the unluckiest. Still could get rookied in the PSD.
Sydney were very close to selecting him with their last pick in the draft. The Swans and North have shown the most interest and would be his best chance of getting picked.

That works unless he starts becoming a problem after announcing himself as a gun. Took us a while to piss off Lovett because his talent was so seductive.

Has this been exaggerated or did Luke mac obliterate both or hold his own?
Hold his own.

Good player no doubt, who looks like he won't take long to find his feet at AFL level, but the talk of him "towelling up" players is simply untrue.

Shoudl be a very good player, but like all father son and zone selections, there is an element of overhype.

We'll also be redrafting Ben Speight if available (has had interest from elsewhere) so possibly only one pick.

TEENAGE star Sam Colquhoun is heading to Port Adelaide.
In a recruiting coup, the rebuilding Power has committed to taking the Central District running machine with its first pick at next Tuesday's AFL pre-season draft.

Surprisingly overlooked at the national draft, Colquhoun trained with Essendon on Monday but returned to Adelaide yesterday after Port sealed a deal with his management team.

The Power - with pick three - selects before the Bombers in the pre-season draft. Only GWS (one) and the Western Bulldogs (two) have picks before Port and neither has shown interest in drafting Colquhoun, clearing his passage to the Power.
Good luck to him, in the immortal words of Kevin Sheehan, "Port may have got themselves a bargain there". :)
