Playfair pulls plug

Beat me to it, I wanted to call the thread Hank's for the memories!

Best memory? Mark against Essendon in the pocket and subsequent goal after I was hosing him all night, 2004 semi final.

Worst? Handpass to Cassisi.

Good luck to him for any future endeavours.

Very sad to hear. :(

Big H was always good value, both on and off the field (never forget him often rocking the dress pants and thongs :D ), and i was always hoping he'd establish himself at Sydney.

He missed the boat on our success and then when an opportunity presented itself in Sydney, injury struck him down.

Terribly cruel turn of events, at least in football terms, but he's still young and with 9 years on AFL lists hopefully he's had an opportunity to set himself up relatively well for life after football.

Always had a soft spot for Playfair. Not sure why. Just seemed like a great guy. but then again, I had a soft spot for alot of "almosts" such as Kent Kingsley, so maybe I am just deluded.

Fair assessment IMO.

Had reasonable hands - could have been as good as Brown is now for Collingwood at his best - but never a top flight player. Certainly gave it a go and deserves congratulations for having done his best, and come a lot closer to success, than most who try.

I'll remember him as BOG (or next after Tommy Lonnergan) in the '07 VFL GF. (Wasn't that a week to remember - Rising Star, VFL Premiership, Brownlow, AFL Premiership (by record margin!))

Good luck Henry!:thumbsu:

Geez that was a good week. I always liked Hank...had a decent pair of hands and wasn't much skill wise, but he was a real trier, and just when you were going to roast him he'd do something decent that would make you rethink. And give you a chuckle :p

Top bloke by all reports too. Hope he can have a decent career in the media or something.

And the upside for us is that the Henry Playfair-Scott Simpson comparisons won't haunt us now :D

He was in some good form before he broke his Jaw and didnt show that form when he came back.. Always hurts me!

One of my favourite players. Him and McCarthy could have been something!

Best of luck for the future, Hank :)

Unfortunately that and the broken jaw incident are what I'll remember him by.

Nice guy but very average talent.

to luck to big boy Henry.l think he was doing some radio work in football not sure what league.he had one good year with the cats and was starting looking alright again with the swans now a injury...good luck in the future

I always wonder what could have been had he not broken his jaw. He had seemed to be playing quite well before that occurred. It's doubtful he would have been a great player, but I reckon he could have been a 'good ordinary' player in the manner of Moons or something like that.

Oh well, good luck to him post footy.

A good club man and in his own way contributed to our success, good luck for the future H.

Very true. You could almost say that if Playfair didn't handball to Cassisi, we may not have won in 2007, as it strengthened the resolve of the group.

(I did say almost).

Absolutely! He didn't even get a free kick for that broken jaw.

He was a bloke of modest talents but I think his endeavour was always pretty good. I was pretty happy that he found another home after he left us but it's disappointing that it's gone sour for him.

because adults asking for autographs is a bit silly :)
Uh yeah... Only kids can get autographs:rolleyes:

Had a book of autographs from all sorts of players, was in the process of making a scrapbook at the time with photo's, autographs, some stats and handing it down to my (future) kids. I see nothing wrong with that.

If it wasn't for the members, there would be no club ;) Most players are aware of that, most players were happy to sign and have a chat.

hey whatever does it for you man, me personally - I would be embarrassed to ask for an autograph and if an adult were to ask me for mine I'd probably roll my eyes too. Maybe Henry just wasn't an autograph person.
