Huddo just said that Adelaide has shown interest in Henry... Draft picks only I'd say..

Nothing mentioned about whats in return...

What about Scott Welsh? Would Geelong accept him? Almost got him when Bomber came to geelong instead of Mooney but North insisted on keeping him. What about a Luke Jericho as well... I'm just throwing up possibilities...

Adelaide's third pick (48) would be a fair trade.

My only reservation is trading him and also losing McCarthy and probably Lonergan in the same year. Virtually destroys our key forward depth.

With Kingsley going as well, we'd be left with Gardiner and Spencer, with Grima and Hunt candidates for promotion. Even adding to that Hawkins and another speculative tall from the draft, and it still looks pretty thin. I dare say we'd try to hang on to McCarthy if H was traded.

I'm not sure on how bad we would be off in the key forward area as we would have ...

Ottens (ruck FF)
Mooney (CHF, FF)
Hawkins (FF)
N.Ablett (CHF, FF)

Grima (if nominated rookie or elevated)

and maybe another drafted KPP player.

That would leave us 6 if McCarthey, Playfair and Gardiner all go. If playfair is traded gardiner might be retained as another marking option.

Particularly if we happen to pick up either Thorp or Sellar in the draft. I would only keep Gardiner (he has another year on his contract anyway) and get rid of McCarthy and Playfair. We have plenty of tall forward options.

that's very funny...yeah we are deep with duds, let's keep them so we can guarantee our continual mediocrity

Lonergan , Do we really think of Tom as a forward? He has played well only as a backman at present but with time he may develop if he decides to go on. Does he provide depth as a forward. NO

McCarthy , he has shown the ability to mark the ball but he also made it very clear that he has limited upside. Could he play as a Key Forward maybe but we would have to have an almighty injury list. He provides NO real depth for mine.

H , he does provide coverage. He can be a player who could play at CHF or maybe pinch hit back. The problem is I doubt he and Nathan can play across Half forward together. Nathan should now be our preferred player so where does H fit . FF I doubt it. Ottens has a lack of mobility and really need to play close to the square. Hawkins , (yes I know , don’t expect much etc.) will probably be the most credentialed forward we have drafted for years. I think within a very short period of time he would push to play there

We also have Mooney who I can see playing across half forward with Nathan.

So in other words in if the deals right H can be traded , esppecially if Welles think he can pickup a very good kid with the pick , what ever that pick is.

More quality , less depth should be the approach

Yup. Might as well play someone undersized out of the square if injuries hit bad, we'd be screwed anyway. No more keeping mediocre players like McCarthy on the list for 'depth'. Chop chop chop.

To be clear, I'm all for cutting some dead wood. I just think that depth is important so we need to keep one of H, McCarthy or Lonergan on the list. Lonergan may not be up to it, McCarthy seems to be destined for the VAFA, so I would keep H.

That would be wonderful, if Gardiner could actually mark the ball. But he can't. And he can't kick. And he can't stand up either. Totally useless. He should be the first one delisted. With Ottens, Mooney, Nathan Ablett, Hawkins at least there are enough tall forwards.
