I believe every team has made a prelim in the last 15 years.

Neither had Hawthorn.

And since Voss is moving away from the typical 'build from the ground up' list management strategy, you could also argue that typical predictors of success are not so relevant to us.

PS. good find BigCat. I stand by everything I said in that earlier thread. The first battle is with ourselves. If we don't think we can go all the way we won't.

Exactly- as my old coach was wont to say, the most important space on the field is between the players' ears.

The turning point for the Lion's before our 3peat was the game v Carlton where lost by a small margin- you could see the minds of our list churning away, we can beat this lot, and for that matter anyone else.

It was apparent to me in the bad loss v the Dogs that losing was not an acceptable option to especially a few of our younger players. All we need is a few more to join this list and we'll be very hard to toss.

The logical next progression in our development is into the top 4. Most of us seemed to agree with acuguy's view that the list is stronger after Voss's trading and recruiting (if not as well future proofed...). It therefore stands to reason that top 4 is a legitimate expectation and if top 4 is your expectation, then a flag should certainly be the goal.

My gut feeling on the list is that we're a year or two short of being a real powerhouse side - but a strong rate of improvement for Rich, Redden, Polkinghorne, Sheldon, Collier, Austin etc is a wild card. But, as is regularly pointed out to over-enthusiastic fans around BF, every club has a bunch of youngsters that it expects to improve.

Agree with much of this.

At this stage there looks to be a logjam for places in the top 4 next year. Conceivably we could be a significantly better side next year...but it’s possible that the only thing we will have to show for it may be losing a semi final by less than we did this year.
