Exactly, contracts mean sweet FA if the player or club aren't happy.It probably will change but you have to look at it practically.
If you breach a contract what can the other party do?
Sue you for damages.
There are no damages to an AFL club for player breach of contract.
The club might get a $1 as nominal damages.
The club might get an equitable remedy like an injunction that stops the player from playing with another club or forcing them to honour their contract.
Given that football clubs are all about 'buy in' it makes no sense to force someone who doesn't want to 'buy in'.
Forcing a player to 'buy in' would create a toxic environment.
