Does anyone else think some of the boys are playing out of position?

Now of course we as a carlton board family don't pretend to know more than mick or any of the other blokes who get paid to list manage or coach, and for what ever reason (injuries, teamrole, precieved best position) player play in there positions on the field.
My question to you (esteemed pubic) is there anyone on our team who in your decicated footy watching believe that there services are better served elsewhere.

i'll start the ball rolling
- tuohy to the half forward flank

I'd like to see Tuohy on the wing, but HFF is a good option.

Henderson lead up forward
Yarran midfield
Lucas foward of centre
Tom Bell midfield. Leave him there. He takes McLean's spot
Laidler defence. Let him work back into 2011 form

Hernderson forward. As good as Hendo has been down back, I really think he could be better as a forward. We have two up and coming defenders in Watson & McCarthy and we need to start playing them for their devleopment.

Yaz to the wing. Carlton should have a look at how Sydney use Jetta, and see if they can get Yaz to play in a similar role. I'm not if it's the best use of Yaz, Garlett & Betts to have them all in the F50. That way we can spread our speed over the ground. Walks in defence, Yaz in the midfield & Jeff and Eddie up forward.

No doubt 2e will improve his ability to read the game by being in defense before moving to a wing or up forward. We need to be getting the whole team contributing up forward though since it would see guys like Laids, Hendo and even Jamison swinging forward to cause issues With opposition match ups.

Simpson to half back, Lucas to half forward flank.

Happy with these two. Simmo very good one on one but terrible shot on the run these days, while Lucas still has defensive issues but is a very good shot on the run and from a set shot.

Only one for mine at the moment is Tuohy. As has been suggested would prefer him on a wing or HF.

Thought Walker back was going to give us less than Walker forward but so far has been good. Provided a lot of (in fact probably the only one) run off HB against the Cats.

Overall I don't see a need for multiple swing men, one or two like White or Walker is handy but I'm still an advocate for players playing where they play best.

This.

I am liking the moves of Yarran and Walker to the opposite ends of the ground. They have certainly screwed with the heads of opposition attacks and defences. I think that Mick came in and said to Walks 'Look mate... I know what you did with Ratts and it isnt going to happen with me. If you want to play for the club you will play where I put you and like it!'.

I also like Mick moving Eddie and Jeppy into the midfield and using their pace to open up the opposition. It doesnt hurt that they are also tackling machines who despite their size can really put their opponent under the pump with a good hard tackle that sticks.

Playing Gibbs and Lucas as floating midfields, in a similar way that Mick did with Daisy, are also a couple more interesting moves. Daisy has turned into a really good midfielder/wing link player and he is one of the reasons why the Filth do so well in their transition play. Mick must have been drooling when he saw that not only did we have someone more talented than Daisy in Gibbs, but we had another player exactly the same in Lucas. I am expecting to see both of them really step up this year.

If Mick can turn Laidler around and move him into the forward line as our third tall, it will allow him to really work on getting both Boots and McInnes up and running as our third talls. They are both as good as, if not better than Laidler long term... and I think that Laidler is a top shelf defender.

If, as some people suggest, Tuohy to make his mark on the wing, then I would be so tempted to push one of Gibbs or Lucas to the HFF and rotate them with Tuohy just to cause mismatches in marking.

I think that Mick is all for leaving Watson, McCarthy and Mitchell in the Ants line up for the season just to give them a constant run of games to get more fitness into them as well as letting them hone their skills at the lower level. It's all very well and good to say we should play them constantly in the seniors... but when our senior defenders are slaughtering the opposition tall forwards... why bust up a winning combination. We just need Temay and Graham to get on the track and pick up a load of games as small defenders.

Any of our midfielders to play some form of defensive footy (excluding Gibbs)...

Everyone playing in their correct positions...

Tuohy not ready to go forward, still learning the game...

I dont really think anyone is out of position. A case can be made for Walker to go forward, as well as Yarran. Henderson has played his best footy for carlton at chb - with time he should be our version of Harry Taylor. I get that we have Watson and McCarthy, but a fit Jamison and Henderson are going to last a while yet.

The biggest problem Carlton faces is that if you were to write down our best forward 6 and best back 6, Walker and Yarran feature in both lists.

I think every one is pretty much in their right positions. Henderson is a much much better defender than a forward and is more valuable to the team in defence, has been excellent the last few weeks. Henderson's body strength and hands aren't good enough to play deep and lead up forwards rarely hurt the opposition. Good CHB is worth their weight in gold, good lead up forward, meh.

Touhy threatens to be a player who can take other positions but I don't know about his athletic capabilities to play onball or if he's able to play as a forward or not. Problem with moving Touhy is that you are moving a player out of an area where we are weak.

Armfield might be a bloke who is perhaps a tad out of position but I think he's doing an adequate job playing more defensive half, though he's a good small forward, can kick em straight and chase, run etc. Again, you move him from the HBF, you are weakening an already weak area for us, maybe.

I don't think having players out of position or in the wrong role is an issue at all. I think we have things about right.

Been on the bandwagon for Tuohy to move forward since early last year.... However, he has shown bright signs the past two weeks.

Do not move Yarran down back - two of the three amigos are working so well together and it'll only get better when Betts finds some form following injury.

Happy with where Malthouse played his team on Saturday night.

I would expect Betts to get more time in the middle with Jeffy and Yazz working well. In fact there's no reason all 3 couldn't rotate through there. Speed kills .

and lead up forwards rarely hurt the opposition.
Fevola and Dunstall send their regards.

Good to see I can go away for a while and come back, and things haven't really changed.

FWIW, Hendo to CHF.......it's were he belongs.

The arguements against his body strength - it doesn't seem to be an issue in defence.......are the defenders he will play on any better or bigger than the forwards he wrestles now?
His marking has improved. Granted it could still improve further, but he is good on the lead, reads the game well, and is one of the best users of the ball we have in our team - kicking at goal or at team mates. He is a different player than what he was 2 years ago. Confident, bigger, smarter.

We have a number that should......repeat....should be able to fill a role down back. As I said in Hendo's thread.....in Mick can get Maxwell to become a class defender, surely there is hope for one of Watson, Laidler, McCarthy.

Other than that we will get used to players playing a variety of roles - tis the way of mick.
