Too many players are being picked based on effort alone. There has to be a fair mix.

Schammer: Time to spend some time finding touch in the WAFL. Decision making is poor at best. Makes critical mistakes when put under pressure.

Michael Johnson: His best is fantastic. Is he playing out of position? I'm not sure what it is with him but he seems to be having a lot of brain farts.

I have not been much of a fan in the past, but I have to defend Tarrant in this case. I think it was the coaching that let him down. Particularly when the opposition coach knows his game as well as MM does.

Btw did anyone notice Collingwood sitting a player 5 metres behind each docker taking a free kick or going back to take a kick from the mark? The ump would call play on and they would be tackled before they knew what was going on. This worked for them twice during the game.

I couldn't help but feel that the time given to Tarrant to take his shot at goal was significantly shorter than what was allowed for others taking shots at goal.

I dont see how going to the WAFL where the intensity is a lot lower will help Schammers disposal at AFL level, he tried his guts out today and thats worth something.

You got to hand it to Collingwood, in the last 2 seasons they have unearthed..Rusling, Goldsack, Pendelbury and Clarke not to mention developed Thomas into a class footballer. Freo have done a similar thing with players like Palmer yet don't exploit the potential of players and tend to stick with big names like Tarrant and Solomon...bring on the classy 18 year olds and reap the rewards.

It's not under 15's.
I lost count of the amount of missed targets from him

I dont see how dropping him to the WAFL will help him though. I would still rather Schammer in the side over someone like Peake who doesnt seem to give it all he has got.

Schammer will show you all next week! (I hope)

He just tries to do too much, I reckon.

Gets the ball, swerves around an opponent, has a bounce, cuts back to the left, dummies, gets himself into trouble, then handpasses of to another bloke who's under even more pressure than him.

He just needs to take the first option. It's not that hard. Should be benched whenever he tools up, and dropped if he repeats the mistake. It's a coaching issue.

That being said, I'd keep him for next week. I prefer effort and errors over non-effort and nothing. The errors can be fixed.

It might not help him and you're right about Peake.

IF Schammer can correct his disposal he'll be great...unfortunately we've been saying that since he arrived.

I dont even think Schammer really need to get a hell of a lot better with his disposal, look at Joel Corey for the Cats. He has very average disposal levels but always takes the first option and kicks long. As the poster above says Schammer always looks for something close by and that gets him into a lot of trouble.

what do we do with this kid? i wanted him in the midfield before but its clear that he really cant handball and seems to get lost in there. CHB prospect or 3rd tall seems like the best option i think. i think HBF wont help him develop..

I'm very surprised Palmer didn't get a run with you guys today! He looks like he has loads of talent to burn but maybe not quite the brain yet? Would add a lot of pace though!

stats from game http://www.fremantlefc.com.au/Season2008/Statistics/tabid/7023/Default.aspx
click de% to see disposal efficiancy

to all the gilmore baggers give up he played awesome
Spent most the game on Travis cloak at CHB a position many thought he wouldnt be able to handle.
Cloak was pretty good last year (except kicking)
Gilmore tore him apart
21 posessions, disposal eff 90% only 4 poor disposals.

Headland playing mid an up forward
21 posessions disposal eff 42% an 3 clangers
an everyone loved headlands game?

I dont know exactly what classifies as a 1% er in the stats but apparantly we didnt have any all game.

on yesterdays effort and the players we had out there, the dockers are looking like a 6-9 placed team, same as each of the past 3-4 years! so its either bring in some guys who will potentially make a difference or persist with the same strategy....same results.
drafting the old guys seems a mistake at this point in time.....tarrant....johnson.....bradley.....why???

What's your point tosser?

What a nice thing to say. I was simply putting it out there that Harvey's coaching style may be to back his older to players to the hilt because Sheedy was at times guilty of this. Especially in the last ten years of his coaching career at Essendon.

In my opinion you guys need to atleast get Ibbotson, Warnock and Palmer in there. All have shown a lot over the preseason. Also you need to improve your work rate. This is done by installing a culture of strong work ethic. Pavlich is a master of this and a very good leader by example so hopefully he can be the catalyst.

Brett Peake is to you guys what Hansen is to us as he injects midfield pace. Get him into the middle as much as possible and he will run away from the packs. However in the Pies game he looked a little underdone and well off his best that he achieved in season 2006. Schammer is under fire. Played well on the weekend but if you are to go forwards i feel you need to inject youth. I feel the same way about us and Chad Fletcher. Anyway all the best with your 2008. I honestly like to see use do well as i am patriotic to WA.

pretty sure a smother is considered a 1% er an pretty sure mundy did one so dont know why they bother with that stats section.

Guys like tarrant will not be dropped
We wasted so much to get him there is no way they will back pedal an say it hasnt paid off.
The coaches tried to buy us a premiership so they will continue to use the guys they gave up draft picks for until the season ends.

They must make 2-3 changes in the midfield.
The only run an carry we get is from the backline, they end up having to move it from defense to our forward line.
Where do our midfielders dissappear too??
Trouble is when those defenders make 1 mistake it generally costs us a goal because they have run of their men to get the ball forward.

The worst thing about Headland yesterday were his shots on goal. From two shots, I think he got one point and one that didn't score. That hurts. But Headland has always been dodgy from a set shot. We will need Headland up and firing so his spot is safe.

So, unfortunately, is Tarrant's. This is potentially even worse than the Croad debacle, as 'Tazza' is on a four year contract. So if he drop him to the WAFL, and sought a trade at the end of the season, we'd still have to pay his contract for another two years.

So we will have to stick with Tarrrant and hope he comes good.
