Going to an appointment tomorrow morning. Gotta travel a fair way to get there but hopefully it's worth it. Tomorrow cannot come quick enough. I'm worse again even today. People keep saying things are going to be alright but I can't see how they can be.

Its a long journey mate and each day will be its own challenge.

As many on here have already attested to the process does work. Just take it slow. It's not going to get better straight away but you have to start somewhere, and you have. Step by step.

Dont lose heart..there will be ups and downs and times you feel nothing is changing. But please stick with it. It's painful seeing you suffer like this..I'm sure everyone else in here feels the same and wishes they could help you. Someone earlier suggested going to talk on the depression board, maybe some people there who are going through the counselling could help you get through today.
May I ask what suburb you live in?

I really hope so mate. Even though the major part of the help hasn't got underway yet I feel that in four days I've done a lot for myself. To be helped I need to help myself.
In my mind this is the biggest step. When you acknowledge you have a problem you can do something about it. If nothing else, you have the support from all of us on BF.

2. Music - when you're in a situation like yours it can be really hard to find the words to express yourself properly. Finding that perfect song that either describes how you feel perfectly or just takes you away to another place (eg Zombie by the Cranberries for me - great song to sing/scream along to at the top of your voice) can be an incredible feeling
Yeah agree with this.

I mean it's a personal thing of course. But in some recent times I daresay the one of the things that got me through is the power of music.

I used to get really anxious before a therapy session, funnily enough, because I knew what was coming and how close it was. I know it's hard but you've got to breathe through it and wait it out. Is there an activity you enjoy (not drinking) that will help you take your mind off it? You just need to get through one more night and you'll be talking to someone.

I've been driving around aimlessly for 3 days with the music up. Work has let me have the rest of the week to myself. The fuel consumption has been ridiculous. I shouldn't be driving with the way I'm feeling at the moment but there you go.

See a psychologist for that, it'll be a start to help change your self perception.

How old are you?

What do you do for a living?

What's your health like? Fat/skinny? Fit/unhealthy?
33

Media now after recently after working in shitty jobs

Pretty fit, certainly not fat.

Your employer needs to be very careful about how they proceed here. If you need help please PM me--I'm an HR Manager and I specialise in industrial relations.

You're getting some great advice and input here, but make sure you want to get better. Even for happy people, it's not always easy to find enjoyment and fun in little things, but you need to make an effort. I've never had depression, but have had a GF and best mate with it (mate still does), and I see how crushing and grinding it can be - but that kind of thing can also be self fulfilling. Try and be positive, try and be happy - I learnt during the time with one of them, little things make a big difference - when someone says, 'Morning how are you?' If you say 'I'm crap.' Then you will feel like crap, and you'll get trapped it in.

Thinking I may fall off the wagon today. I've not got any substitute for it yet...despite seeking help. I don't know what's going to happen.

What are you up to today? Do you have anything to keep you busy?
Going along to the Blues game with a couple of friends (both huge drinkers). I'd say I can't go but I don't want to be alone.

Are they close friends? Would you feel comfortable telling them that you are trying to curb your drinking because it's not good for you?

You're going to be in a lot of situations where there's alcohol involved, it's just the Australian culture. You need to come up with some coping techniques to get you through it because the alternative is to stay stuck inside your house.
