Thought this might provide some perspective on the current Sellar/Jericho etc. threads.
Bock was always a good prospect, but I am yet to post good things about Jericho and Sellar. :p

tell you what reading through this post it really shows that you need to give players and extended time to prove themselves, the scary part is that some of the people on this thread are the same damning players early on.

Tell you what OBJ was right on the money - what a champ, were the hell is that guy ?

I'd love to know what Leaping Linder meant, was Hentschel showing something at stage ?

and I have been arguing about that very point recently.

look at Macca's quote, sure it's fun to have a giggle at a wrong call, but beyond that there is more there. everyone is right and wrong at times, we can all laugh at that. But equally his reference to knowing bock would shit after 1 game in the 2001 wizard cup (which must have been 2002, as he was rookied in 2001 draft) is just ****ery, because he's a tall just listed with a team.

you should never pretend to be able to make a damning call that early. that's the sort of thing that isn't about being right or wrong, but just being off base about what is required.

That reference to Macca's should read maccas' as that memorable quote belongs to maccas_no1, not me . ;) :thumbsu:

Lol. very true. I apologise for any confusion.

It's Maccas_no1 who wishes to judge someone after 1 game of a wizard cup series.

though lets be fair, who exactly did you think was going to be confused?? :D :p

Haha, good bump. I actually searched for this thread and read it earlier this week just for a laugh.

I remember citing this thread about 12 months later when everyone was getting stuck into Stevo.

Actually i think you cited 'Bock Off'. That ones gone in the bump list as well.

That was the worst thing about it... i had about 5 threads to pick from for the bump treatment.

:o:o Oh Dear:o:o He was fairly shocking in that Ansett Cup SF against Richmond though, I was only thinking back that far during the week and am very pleased how far Bock has come, I rate him higher than Rutten at present.

Great bump!!

I think making an early call simply means you are willing to jump to conclusions, and make an assumption about a players overall ability without possibly having all the facts, or seen everything he has to offer.
Sometimes these conclusions are correct making your early judgment appear visionary, however sometimes (maybe most) it is wrong and shows you are not a person who makes informed educated decisions.
IMHO making these early calls on players doesn't show you are an astute judge of talent, it just shows you are willing to make these calls on players without possibly having all the facts.

i pretty much agree with you there jack
- i think that Bock is a deadset rebounding CHB or BP - i suspect he currently drops too many marks because he is trying too hard (much like Perrie) instead of playing by instinct - i actually think he is/was a very good pack mark but his progress since we rookie listed him has almost gone backwards - i saw him take more marks in his 1st year than he does now
Anyway, players of his size and mobility are not that plentiful and i would keep him on our list. IMO even if he does not make it in the 1st team as a CHB or BP (given that we have McGregor,Hentschel,Hart) then i still see him as a valuable back up tall player. but i do think that he is a back man and not a forward

Kudos to johnnypanther, on the money 3 years ago
