Please Take Gibbs Carlton!!!

I doubt that Carlton are going to take a player based on position at no1. Last year, Carlton were reportedly set on taking a tall with Pick 1 until they realised that Murphy was clearly the standout and was too good to pass up on.

Carlton will take the best talent at no1, but whether thats Gibbs or someone else is another question which I am not capable of answering.

we need gibbs, as far as im concerned we will get gardiner and if we dont we always have picks 17 and 19 to trade off if its that bad

we'll get gibbs...im all for getting the best available...not what you need...
but then again hawks took nuffhead instead of the griff....
if the saints can do with hack ruckmen and a decent midfield then maybe we might try it...

I am getting a little worried about us not taking him and taking leuenberger with pick one.
why? because of all the talk on this board?

If that's the case, then rest easy.

I'd rather take Gibbs and im sure that carlton wont pass him up.

A ready made ruckman can come to us in the next few years through a trade or the psd. You cant rush picking a ruckman, as they only reach their peak much later in their careers. I'd love to foster a young ruckman, bt at this stage i think Gibbs is a much safer bet.

If we don't take Gibbs it is unlikely to be a ruckman, more likely the Gumble or Hansen. Ruckmen drafted in the top two over the years don't have great records. White had to move clubs to really take off, Fraser and Kosi are injury prone as well as taking awhile to develop and Gardiner even without his offfield problems is crocked ( still can't believe Carlton people want to take him even with our Ruck problems, it reeks of desperation not logic) Due to them taking so long to develop and having more chance than any other player category of getting injured, using a top pick on a ruck prospect is a huge risk and one we can't afford to take:thumbsd:

As I have written in other threads you can pick up quality defenders and ruckmen through later picks and smart rookie choices. Dean Cox, Sandilands and Ben Rutten for example are all rookie elevations:)

Gibbs is the pick we need
I have watched him play 3 times and he is so good has got the lot, great kick ,good mark and moves as well as any young player I 've seen
We have to take Gibbs in this draft

I want a mad midfield, we better not pass up on gibbs.

If that's the case, re-draft Angwin & Norman, and throw Brendan "The Virus" Fevola in there for good measure...

Gibbs is the only pick that makes sense:
- he is rated as at least equal best player in the draft by basically anyone who knows anything about football
- we desperately need more midfield depth so he fits an immediate need
- he's a safe bet. Midfielders rated that highly prior to drafts always work out. KPP are a much riskier bet, and ruckman are the riskiest. We need all the safe bets we can take at this point
- Every single carlton fan would be happy with that choice. Not only is he the smart pick in a football sense, but in a marketing sense he is way ahead. Everyone knows who Gibbs is, and everyone wants to be there to see him next year. Picking him will be worth 5000 memberships next year; even if Leuenberger is that good, he just doesn't have the drawing power

The only way we could not draft Gibbs here is if we out-think ourselves and try and make a 'clever' gamble when the obvious pick just hits us in the face. Am I confident we'll make the right call? Absolutely not! But just signing Gibbs given the above evidence would give me a lot more faith in the CFC at this point.

I know Sticks so I'll ask him direct. I'll post in a few days.

I can tell you Des...Gibbs!
This topic is getting boring, Gibbs is #1...
I agree with my namesake. ;)

However, it has been reported on the news in Adelaide that Port are willing to pass up their first round pick (no.5) and a player to Essendon to get pick 2 so they can pick up Gibbs. Originally I laughed thinking that they'll do all of that to still miss out on him. Then I think to myself, why would they do that unless they believe Gibbs will still be available? Could it be that they know we are taking someone else?

I hope not. I couldn't bear to see another son of a Glenelg champ running around for Port.

We would be nuts to not look around to make sure we select the best player but i really think Gibbs will be in a blue jumper next year!

I would expect Port to be ecstatic picking up either Gibbs or Gumbleton

no doubt. The report on the channel 7 news (no safer place to get your AFL facts from  ) specifically stated that Port would trade up to draft Gibbs. I think it would be a mistake if we don't take him, and I'm sure we will, but the report has me concerned.

The report was probably factually incorrect in that Port probably just want any of the top 2 picks - if the talks have even taken place at all, but I just report it as I see and hear it.

Have people actually looked at this guys stats for the year. He has had a massive beat up becuase of the attempt to get the afl to change the rules. He out played Cupido. SO what. His stats arent brilliant. My little bro mentioned something about 36 possies and 6 goals. Yeah ok, he is playing in the SANFL etc,etc.........he maybe the best. But we have to consider these two points:

a) Everyone else is being drowned out, so are we sure ther isnt anyone better
b) Who are the other options how do they compare.

c) SNEAKY trick by the crows eaters to get us to take him when they are hiding someone else.

Was one of the best at nat. U/18's. was best on ground in the U/17's international rules vs ireland ?last summer.

There is hype about this guy to be sure.....just as there was about murph.
He is the best mid in the draft, and really the only sure thing.
I say this because KPP's drafted with high hopes sometimes don't work out. Gumby and Hansen may turn out to be duds (Livo, Polak etc), but not many highly rated mids, esp in top 3 turn out this way.
Gibbs no.1 for sure.
Punt with later picks on Rucks, KPP's or other mids as there are no surer things than KPP's and rucks in the top 10.
