Soo... if I understand the email from Robbo correctly, we're engaging on a PBS-style pledge drive this year. Basically, you decide how much dosh you're willing to pledge to the club per game, and if we win, you pay up.

I don't mind it as an idea. I understand a club in our position has to do anything it can to make money. It's a shrewd strategy too - Let's face it, if any club's supporters are going to be willing to part with a bit of money after winning, it's going to be us. So many pent up endorphins after being so shit for so long. I'd literally be pissing money everywhere if we strung some W's together (that's assuming I had money to do so... which I don't...)

Link below. Thoughts on the idea?

I went to actually go and set it up. Was only going to go with $5 per win, but I don't have a credit card to sign it up with. I might ring them up though and get them to set it up that way, so that it comes out of my savings instead. It's not a bad idea. With all the losses we've been through, you'd think that if anyone, we'd be more than happy to fork out some change in return for some wins! (imagine we win 12+!)

Im not sure if i was impressed with it, paying the club to do what it was supposed to do and hasnt done for 6 years is a little off for me

I buy my membership in the hope of watching the club win games but maybe im just grumpy cuz the weather is shit

No, you're exactly right.

Don't like it. Thought PJ was all about trying to get supporters' respect back.

Yeh that's exactly what I thought, he has been saying we need to earn back our supporters, not sure this is the right timing for this type of thing. Also as a concept it's a bit weird, I understand its a revenue raising concept which is fine, but isn't the whole purpose of an AFL club is to try and win every week regardless... I don't think this one is for me.

Those that can afford it , go for it. I have taken out membership for myself and 2 of my Kids , i want to see on-field improvement.
Start winning games , the fans will come to watch , increased gates = more money for club. Personally think this could of waited till real season began.

I can see why they are doing it. We have some pretty well off suppoters who wouldn't mind putting in a little extra for a win.

It is not some sort of opt out or automatic roll-over thing. if you don't want any part of it, fine.
Don't really think it's a big deal either way.

I get why they're doing it and the thinking behind it. Just not really sure if they're considering how the supporters might view it. I would prefer something more alternative. For instance instead of just asking the supporters to pay up everytime the club has a win like we're training a dog maybe provide some extra stuff when the club has a win, like discounts at the store, post-game functions, players sticking around after the game for signings etc.

Rather than asking for handouts when the club does what it's supposed to do give supporters a cherry on top of the win. That's what will get people back to games, that's what will make the supporters feel respected.

Terrific idea, but unfortunately all they want is money these days. I think doing this is a little off but hey it isn't compulsory.

I realise it's no biggy, completely voluntary and the club needs coin but I must admit I share a similar sentiment to most here.

I think there are more positive ways of going about it like with what Bluelegs said. They are essentially saying "hey give us some/more money and we'll win for ya". The more the club does this (regardless of administration) the longer the supporters are given the signal of a club in trouble. At some point supporter/member fatigue has to kick in - Groundhog Day.

The club has to realise its time to pay the supporters back for opening their wallets for the last 7 years of slop.

I applaud those who go ahead and chip in though for this.

What's the problem with it? It's about time they came up with a way for the little people to tip a few extra bucks in (short of rattling the tin). If you don't like it press delete on the email and forget it was ever offered.

As for it being a bad look, with what we've been through in the last few years this isn't in the top 50 of most embarrassing moments.

Certainly isn't up there with that guy on the trumpet

Pretty sure the supporters have already tipped in a few million bucks through donations the last few years

"Every time you pledge we stop the bugler from going on the ground before the game."

Now there's a cause I could get behind.

And look how well we're doing, going on bended knee to the AFL to bail us out because it's all been pissed up against a wall. Unfortunately the reality of the situation is that for now we're selling games and scraping funds everywhere we can - if it costs them $1000 to run this and they make $2000 then it's a win.
