Hi Doggy Supporters. Great win yesterday. Add back some of your key injured players and you have a serious side.
Just wanted to say you have a Superstar player in Sam Darcy. He'll become the best Key Fwd within a couple of years. He's already playing at such a high level.
Hope he stays injury free because we've had Lewis out for ages...i know how that feels. But it's great seeing a genuine star in the making... 👍

Wasn’t his best night, but what a frickin’ player Bailey Dale has become. He’s great with time and space, but his improvement in the contest has been so good.
I remember checking this board mid-way through a game against St Kilda in 2019 and there was a number of posters saying it would be Dale’s last game etc.

He finished the game with 5 goals.

He has become an out and out champ. Ultra reliable, hard to tackle and deadly with his kicking.

How often did we say last year that what was killing us were our i50 entries?

So how beautiful was it to see him lower his eyes at a crucial pressure-filled moment late in the game and provide Darcy with an easy mark and goal. He was an important factor in us getting up in that last quarter.

That's the justification for drafting him just before other clubs got in, and playing him in the seniors well before expected.

He will only get better.
I like that he held his kick until an option presented itself. He's exactly what we need at half forward.

They could easily be co-captains. Both are great leaders on the field in their own way, and off field Marcus is such a class act that he can be the face of the club while Tom plays the pest to keep everyone on their toes and the wise old head mentoring and driving the emerging players.

That was a real "junk yard dog", never say die effort, and a real team effort. Even the guys who were having horrible games had their moments to contribute to the win.

On a personal note, I am loving that a fellow medical professional in Sam Davidson is having such a big impact. Paediatric medicine's short-term loss is AFL football and the Western Bulldogs' gain. And he wears the same number as one of the greatest humans ever to walk the face of this planet, the great Jackie Robinson - one of my all-time heroes.
I thought you were going to say the great Liam Picken (or Matty Boyd)! I must read up on this Jackie Robinson.

I was thinking about this too. There was a time when Dale was regarded here as just a good front-running outside player who was a bit timid in the contest. Not any more. He is breaking tackles, has taken some good contested marks in recent times and his hard running spoil to create the sealer last night was inspirational.

The frustrating thing, is the umpire didn’t actually call for the review which is usually when the longer reviews happen. I always thought that whilst all goals were reviewed, if the umpire doesn’t actually call for it, then a call needs to be made before the ball returns to the middle and is bounced - as in, they don’t extend that time out unless the goal umpire calls for it.

Ah well, we won, had we lost I’d be very frustrated.
Every score is reviewed by the ARC.
For goals, the ARC have 45 seconds and if they then need extra time, they tell the umpire to hold.
That is what happened last night.

Even when he's having a down night with ball in hand, all I want is for him to crack in defensively like he has been.

I actually think his tap work vs DK (who is an animal) is a big improvement on what we’ve seen in the past. Got smashed around the ground and isn’t marking or disposing the ball to the standard we’ve seen but give the guy some credit for developing a much more combative edge in the hitouts.

Maybe he is struggling with his fitness around the ground because he is finally putting his body on the line in the hitouts. Small sample size but he has increased his hitouts, hitouts to advantage and has won the hitouts the last two weeks. These are positive trends. Let’s see if he can’t build his around the ground stuff while maintaining his improved tap work.
Yeah, I can see that, thought he dropped a few marks he would normally take and didn't stamp his physicality on the game at times
The eye test suggests that Tim has been working on his hitout technique and now rucks with some assuredness. However the same test suggests he lacks confidence around the ground, especially in contested situations. So he's fumbling loose balls and dropping marks he used to take with ease.

The stats tend to support this (as far as they go). Not terrible but not the "extra midfielder" that he used to be. And fewer relieving marks in defence and marks inside 50.

Had a mate (non-bulldog who watches every game) just ring me (unprompted) to say how much he thought English has regressed this year.
Lets not develop Stockholm syndrome people. Bevo has been holding us captive for a decade, forcing us to endure one of the softest players of all time, who apart from his tap work, is getting worse. And there is no release/end in sight.

Am I right in saying there wasn’t a clear angle that showed Darcy’s goal being touched? ‘Appears to have touched by the Carlton player’ is not good enough.
At first I thought they were going to say it shaved the post, then they showed Darcy not celebrating and Weitering jumping around like a maniac and that was apparently the evidence. The vision was very blurry.

Even though we're missing a lot of talent, there's so much obvious improvement:
  • McNeil and VDM have substantially lifted both their tackling and kicking.
  • Davidson is a jet - works so hard and footskills are tidy.
  • Buku looking a lot better than previous years.
  • Richards and Lobb are superb in their new positions.
  • Kennedy is giving us more than Macrae, Harmes a good pickup also.
Who gets the credit for these wins? Maybe a bit of recruiting, coaching and development?

McNeil often comes up with an insane team lifting tackle.
That one where McNeill locked his opponents arm was text book - receiving a free kick for holding the ball.

Also, when he broke even against 2 Carlton players on the wing and ended up finishing it on the left - quite brilliant.

VDM, Davidson, McNeill - who would have thought?

Have faith in Sanders all he will be a very good player. He is an inside mid
To be a good inside mid I’d argue you need to be excellent in at least one of the following areas. Tackling, fast hands & extracting, burst speed, ability to break tackles. He has no elite qualities. For a small guy he has next to no agility. I would much rather we get West in the middle if we can cover his role further forward.

This board has never been a great barometer for judging talent.

We have the collective patience of an 3 year old waiting for dinner.

We're best put on ignore.

How long are you in Florida / The States?

Been here since 22nd March and will be back in Aus on 22nd April!

Spent a few days in California, spending a week in Florida before a cruise then off to Peru

Great to see sanders in all three games so far really thrive when the result is on the line. Kicking clutch goals, important clearances and links in play that are under a lot of pressure. Shows he is made of the right stuff. Will be a star in a few years time, let’s hope we can hold onto him long term.
The gameday thread were delisting him at halftime 😆.

*the gameday thread is also a good example of why people shouldn't have guns.

Once a game he'll do something that makes you shake your head no, but a dozen other times he just pulls off the incredible!

Late game he somehow weaved through 3 or 4 players...I was sure he couldn't, but he did!
