Loved every minute of the series so far.

Read every post of this thread up to this point. A few points.

For those who were sick of the automated message the plurbs left for Carol, a little piece of trivia is that the person who recorded the message is Patrick Fabian, who of course starred with Rhea Seehorn as Howard Hamlin in Better Call Saul

The virus is encoded with a biological imperative to spread everywhere it can. Therefore, the plurbs cannot physiologically accept that there are people "immune" to the virus. They either have to be converted or they die. While they remain unconverted, the plurbs are driven to look after the immune and cater to their every whim, so that they remain living long enough to be converted.

Similarly, the virus compels those that are infected to build the means by which the virus can propagate through space. There's no invasion coming.

Manousos considers that the plurbs have "stolen" everything that was left behind before the Joining, and therefore refuses to accept any help from the plurbs if he has the capacity to do so. He is sticking to his moral code by writing the IOU on his hospital charges to the individuals that used to run the hospital before the Joining. It's pretty clear that there's going to be some conflict between Manousos and Carol when they finally meet in the next episode, which will be the focal point of series 2.

Carol needs to take into account that while the plurbs seemingly cannot lie to her, they can still use this to their advantage and manipulate her through other means. It was interesting that Zosia decided to trash talk Carol while they were playing croquet on the football field. It demonstrates that the plurbs are starting to adapt.

It was also interesting that the domesticated pets were not included in the Joining. I wonder if Gilligan is going to make more of that in future episodes. In addition to the wolves roaming New Mexico, and the buffalo living on the golf courses, dogs do tend to revert to their wild nature if they are not properly cared for by humans.

Another potentially interesting plot point is that it was confirmed in the most recent episode that Zosia is Polish by birth (as is the actress, Karolina Wydra), and yet she came to the US from Morocco where she was responsible for collecting the corpses of people who died during the Joining. She was clearly selected because Zosia bore more than a passing resemblance to the principal character in Carol's novels, but that doesn't necessarily explain why Zosia was in Morocco before that connection was made.

Zosia hinted to Carol that there was a pretty significant conflict between the plurbs and the military, and that their initial plan was to convert individuals to plurbs through a "slow and steady" method but needed to accelerate their plans when they were discovered. This wasn't critical to the Carol story so Gilligan skipped over it.

It's also pretty obvious that Diabate was the only one who advocated for Carol being involved in the regular discussion groups of the English-speaking non-plurbs. Laxmi would have led the opposition to Carol being part of the group and would have been readily supported by most of the others.

Thought Episode 6 was a bit let down after the reveal of what they were eating.

The jacuzzi scene was Austin Powers level of strategic placement

Half way through Ep 7 so on the home straight

Did get me wondering what I would do if it was just myself left? Where I live is a bit like Alber, hot, dry, lots of car washes…so not very much I would suppose 🤔

Carol is playing her own game here - while her reaction to seeing Zosia again was real & she has developed feelings for 'the hive', keep your friends close & your enemies closer is 100% in play as she continues to gather info in an attempt to save the human race.

Manousos has the key - the radio frequency - & Carol has an basic understanding of how the hive operates. The look on Zosia's face when telling Carol she was going to have a visitor says it all - they are shit scared of Manousos and Carol getting together. Fascinated to see what happens when they meet up.

That look on Zosia's face was a great piece of acting.

Prestige podcast , I think, mentioned that they built that court completely for the series as they didn’t want to recreate the pizza on the roof problem for the owners as in Breaking Bad.

So, I’m guessing the owners of the house kept getting pizzas thrown on their roof?
Hahaha! Classic!

It's actually impossible to drive from Paraguay to North America because of the Darién Gap, a dense jungle between Panama and Colombia.

I agree with Carol - hivemind morality sucks. They won't pick an apple off a tree but they will allow billions of people to starve. The whole of humanity are now slaves to 12 people, including beautiful women being sexual playthings for powerful men - another Soylent Green reference. Diabaté missed a trick. He could have got the actual actors to recreate the scene from Casino Royale.

The Darian would have had more of a walkable path through the use of illegal immigrants…but then again it’s probably grown over with the current take on immigrants up North

Fair comment.

My wife had a similar complaint, but when you see how the pacing of Breaking Bad over the full series, was justified in the end. Think it's going to be similar here, where things will spiral out in the future seasons.

I started BB S01 four times over 3 years and by which time the world was up to about S03 when we finally got started and ended up binging it to 3am over a week

Now tell me a show you would do that for in 2025?

Gawd they were epic years when these types of shows burst out of nowhere

Now we have so much mundane choices

(the only one I have binged to this level is Severance in 2025)

And up to date!

So there’s one more episode left…that’s Christmas afternoon our time or tomorrow our time?

I can read back through the thread now

tomorrow our time

La Chica o El Mundo - The Girl or the World - interesting title - Manouso's demand of Carol?

Fans of Breaking Bad kept harassing the former owners of the property, to the point that after the show finished filming, the owners erected a six-foot fence to keep idiots away from their house. Vince Gilligan also publicly asked fans to stop harassing the former owners. Of course, that had no effect, so they sold up and moved away, and the new owners eventually listed the property on the market at the start of this year.

Not all that funny, IMO.

I first became aware of the Darién Gap a few weeks ago when Suriname qualified for the World Cup play offs to be held in Mexico. My first thought was - road trip! Google Maps was like yeah nah.

It was a footpath of misery during the Biden years where many fled through there only to be held to ransom by criminal “tour guides”. Could be some YouTube news clips on that era.
