Would be good to see him play other positions even if he can’t get a game on the middle for them, any exposure to that level is good

Having read the phantoms I am genuinely unsure if there is a single stand out player in this crop.. stuck in Melbourne with no footy being played, loads of players missing out on development and exposure and crucial opportunities to showcase their abilities..I’m a hawks fan and we look to be heading for a top 5 draft pick which is completely foreign and not really clear player/s to keep an eye on.. I’d be tempted to try and split a high pick and get two later first round picks because the uncertainty of a top 5 in this draft is very high from all I read and little I’ve seen.. would those with a better understanding of this group agree?? Is there a clear top 5??

Its very even in that 2-10 bracket so attempting to split that pick isnt the worst idea, if you can get a later first and maybe a first for next year aswell in a stronger draft that could be a shrewd move

With Ugle Hagan clear pick 1??
Which players are you putting in that next bracket??
Yes I think I’d try to do a deal with a team with picks they’d be open to move.. kangas have two lowish picks coming up.. I’d be open to trade our pick 2-5 for Their Melbourne pick and their own first next year.. see if they bite.. same with cats, they have CC’s compo pick and that along with their own first for next year might be worth looking at. Issue there might be their first next year might be a late first.. just an idea. This draft worries me..

danielG I'd be comfortable with any of my top 7 going at Pick 1 with only small pedantic things generally separating the, then see that 8-25 group as being fairly even as well, if Hawks have a top 5 pick I'd be holding onto it, if it's a pick from 8ish onwards I'd be looking to split it, maybe a Geelong or Brisbane would be interested in that depending on what they feel they need, but I think Thilthorpe/ McDonald would be what both those clubs are looking at, and those two would suit Hawthorn as well. Think there's reason there to split and reason to keep so it'll be interesting to see which way they go

In my thread on here I have my rankings so might wanna check that out to see those players ;)

Yeah it’s a tough spot to be in, don’t think many clubs will want to trade up but it may depend if they want a tall like McDonald, Thilthorpe or DGB to fulfill a need

Thilthorpe isn’t one of the best two KP’s in this draft IMO, let alone the #1 player. I think Logan McDonald’s current form and long term upside has him well covered.

Give it a few weeks and I'll probably agree, would like to see McDonald and DGB with an extended run at senior level before pulling the trigger, and hopefully some form of games for JUH this season

Yeh I think it’s Logan McDonald
Or Elijah Hollands for hawks first pick.. A top line contested making forward or dominant midfielder with game breaking abilities.. nothing else would make sense.. A top 5 pick after a knee reco is fraught with danger but it seems this is a draft where you’ll be taking a risk whichever way you go...

If I'm not mistaken this logic lead to Mitch Thorp being selected over Joel Selwood ;)

good chance neither is available at Hawks pick. If McDonald holds his form, he won’t make it past Adelaides pick let alone Freo’s haha. North will be looking hard at Holland’s imo.

Freo's first rounder will be knocked back by at least one given the deficit for the Henry match last year, I think you guys finish above Hawks regardless but good chance they move up because of you moving back

Hawthorn will win more games. Think they'll finish 9-13.
You'd be more knowledgable about Freo than me, without looking too far into injuries/ lists I'm more optimistic about Freo and what they've produced, unless Hawks can find a spark or something new to bring to their game I don't see them winning many more games

Hawks are dreadful on small grounds. Optus is big and they have Impey (huge in IMO) and Bruest back. They'll be better for at least the next few.

At least 8 B22 out, we are struggling big time.

thats a bit more grim than I was expecting, certainly short term it's hard to see you guys being too competitive.

I don't know.

If Adelaide have 1 and 2 (ignoring JUH), they prob go for Tilthorpe and then Hollands / McDonald. Given our list needs, it's probably Hollands and Thilthorpe, so McDonald could still be there at pick 3

You might as well scratch that thought. There is zero chance Adelaide get pick 2, as no club in their right mind will offer b crouch 750+ over 4-5 years.

Hawks aren't finishing below North, current form North will be struggling to beat Adelaide let alone anyone else this year. Likely finish is crows and north bottom 2 then blanket over Freo (who'll have their pick moved back by 1 anyway) hawks and sydney. What North are looking for will be the big factor in who Hawks get I think, if they go DGB then Hawks will snap up McDonald (you'd assume), if they go McDonald Hawks probably go a Phillips or Hollands, maybe even Bruhn if he gets some games this year

yeah Adelaide have a few young talls already with Fog Himmelberg McAsey Frampton & the older guys in Lynch & Tex

Tilthorpe is a no brainer, but no chance you’d over look the best mid in the draft if you ended up with pick 2 and no Crouch.

for Freo I like DGB Trew or Odriscoll.
I think Freo would pick McDonald if available though.

Piece on Tanner Bruhn

Here we go again!

As a RFA, the crows match any bid that only gives pick 20 and force a trade.

As the destination club, are you going to cough your first round pick or more when you can just pay an extra $100k and get him for nothing?

I think there's a big asterisk there, we don't know what the list size/ salary cap cuts are gonna be. If it's a North/ Sydney coming in for Brad (someone with a top 10 pick) I'm guessing they add that 100K regardless, but if its a finalist going for him they might just take the knock

And if they don’t want to do that? Adelaide keep brad? He ends up in the preseason draft? No club is going to give that to brad to hit the triggers because of his injury history.

Brad is a good player, but he is basically a Hannebury, injury plagued players value is not as high as their best footy, because he will struggle to get out on the park, especially heading towards 30, I can't remember, did Sydney get a first rounder for Hannebury?
