Hey Bangers you're not the only Declan that can football, the more I cast my peepers over Sturt's Declan Gladigau screaming down his wing with his accurate penetrating kick I'm becoming quite bullish about his draft chances. Watched any of him?, reckon he'll get a gig on the wing in the Nationals.

I've really liked what I've seen of him so far as well and agree that I think he's more than deserving of that Wing spot for SA for the Champs, and that'll be his best chance to boost his stocks from being a late/ rookie chance to a certified National Draft prospect, especially with the lack of natural looking wingers in the crop this year (only Freijah and Hardeman look natural to me there, others like Wilson, Delean and Hall play it alright but better elsewhere) there's certainly a good opportunity to command selection from his performances.

Bangers how would you see Watson and Wilson fitting into the treacle slow Blues? Very big fan of both, hoping Blues with some major list changes this year and our slide down the ladder could have a chance at getting one or both.

Watson still expected within top 5? Wilson somewhere between 10-15?

Watson's height may see him slide but for me he's very much a top 5 talent, so I'm expecting at the latest he's taken Pick 7-8 area. Wilson is currently in my top 5, but I understand that's probably not a consensus view, and with Read and Walter both looking top 8 quality currently he could still be there at Pick 10, but I'd be shocked to see him last any further than that

Not gonna do a monthly update of the rankings given the Champs is starting so soon, but just a quick summary of my thoughts around the top 20 over the last month;

- Ethan Read and Jake Rogers the two main big bolters on my board after an impressive month, both for various reasons;
Read is just a superb athlete with well developed ground level game for his size, whilst his actual ruck craft definitely needs some work there's a lot of promise there to suggest a good player at the next level, although at this stage I imagine that's more likely in a KPP post than in the ruck, and it's the main reason I favour Mitch Edwards at the moment, however both are in my top 10.
Rogers proving he can do it against fully matured bodies was the final thing I needed to be convinced of him as a prospect, ticks a lot of boxes for a modern day footballer, and ticks a lot for where I envision the game going over the next ten years, size does remain a concern for a midfield role at the next level.

- For me there's 9 open draft prospects that have solidified themselves as the top level prospects in the draft, naturally there's tiers within that but I see them all as 'must pick if available' type of players where positional need shouldn't be a factor, with about 8 others I think are possible inclusion into that dependant on the Champs games.

- Moir and Archer Reid are the two dropping in my eyes, with Moir the bigger concern for mine. I'm not overly bothered by how many goals he kicks from now, or even necessarily how many touches he gets, I really want to see more hunger, physicality and determination displayed from him at the Champs though, I want him to keep flying for marks even if his first doesn't pay off, I want to see him attack the ball at ground level without hesitation, I want to see him get involved up the ground, etc. The talent is undeniable but it only gets you so far. Reid I'm less worried about at the moment but is a watch at Champs, I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt at the moment due to Gippslands general talent level vs other Coates League teams, and the lack of quality service he's been getting (also been 2 on 1'd a bit in contests), hopefully with a higher level of team he can start to hurt more often

One thing's for sure. This is actually going to be a really good championships. Every team claims to have a good squad and from what I can see, they have a right to say that. Even some red hot players haven't been mentioned yet.

Absolutely! can’t wait for the champs, name me a few of the the red hot players??

I only speak from a WA perspective because I know I can't watch everything from all over the country.

But I must say, I'm a tad disappointed, just a tad, that Presley Campbell (EF/176) and Aiden O'Driscoll (P/177) never get mentioned.

Yeah, yeah, I get it...the ideal AFL footballer is 193 and can play in 18 positions.

Anyway, we'll see how they go. I still have hope for shorter guys with electric pace and skill. Yeah, there will be that height question mark but I'm not going to spruke these guys here unless I'm fairly certain...but we'll see in the champs.

Potentially having to trade out two first round picks. Could set you up for big draft next year though.
The problem is that we've had Darcy, Jamarra and the Treloar trade eat up all our mid draft picks the last couple of years and before that the Keith and Bruce trades. It means our depth is pretty rubbish and we also haven't had any good midfielders come into the side so we're looking a little shakey there.
We're lucky to have been able to get the really high end key position talent in but they can't come in and hit the ground running like some young mids can.
Pushing the talent injection back another year wouldn't be ideal.
I'd prefer we try to trade up, perhaps with gold coast.

PMBangers just wondering how do you determine the rankings? Do you use a points based system, is it recruiter info based or is it simply just your opinion.

Is Zane Duursma better than his brother at this level?
Didn't watch enough in 2018 to say definitely yes or no

Simply opinion based, no real true rhyme or reason tbh it mostly just comes down to who I think will be better at the next level and who's a more 'sure thing'

I did think about that after my post. Would be a good trade for both teams, IF Gold Coast get a bid on Walter before their first pick.

What do you imagine such a trade looks like?

It's hard to say without knowing where the picks land or how the top 10 ends up shaping up but I'd guess our two firsts this year for gold coasts first and future second might be around the mark.
