Hence the U18s dominance of D'Aloia, Trugdeon, etc. has continued at AFL Level
They on an AFL list?

Recruiters say it often that the game they play at 18s translates to what they would do at AFL level. Talking position and game style rather than output here

Your arguing that Stevens isnt a midfielder if hes to be at AFL level

I haven't really heard anything like that before but fair enough. I have reservations about Stevens as a midfielder at the next level due to his low athletic base and lack of outside game, to me his aerial presence, ball use and contested strength will be best utilised in the backline where he'll have more time to position for contests and kick start transition plays through his intercepting, similar to Will Gould :)

Agree with you Bangers, I see him in a role similar to that of a Nick Vlaustin

Bangers is the draft looking pretty light on from a standard/full time midfielder point of view?
Unfortunately so, after the top handful it falls away a bit for midfield quality. There's always the possibility that someone boosts their stocks, but I don't think any of the mids likely to be available at say Pick 14vare going to be the same level of Elijah Hewett who was taken at 14 last year. There's still some serviceable guys after that point, but none that you'd project to be anything more than B graders

Thoughts on Harry Demattia, Bangers? Where do you have him - obviously not in your top 15 tiers, but how far outside?
I need to see more of him to be comfortable to make a call, but he does have quite a few outstanding attributes in his power and contested work that appeal. From the brief bits ive seen so far, his ball use is slightly concerning, but for a player winning majority of his touches on the inside you can probably forgive the kicking if his work by hand gets to elite level

The difference between durrsma and demattia as inside midfielders in the last game was stark. Demattia wasn’t that clean and his disposal was very ineffective.

I shivered in Ballarat.
‘Harry was poor in the midfield.
He lacked competitiveness on the inside and was not able to accumulate possessions
He was also tries forward and back.
Stevens was clearly bog.
just dominated on the inside
what surprised me was his workrate
his lack of speed would be his knock but I remember the same knocks on cripps, Parker and even serong

Surprising to hear that about Demattia in regards to competitiveness, will have to find time to watch the replay there.

Stevens workrate doesn't surprise me at all, not very often he's caught napping around the ground.

Absolutely could be true - do we know if it's been changed back?
They did. We lost a late pick last year (I think only 30 points or something) because of it.

Bangers how far do you see Moir falling would he available at say Geelong 2nd round pick for the Lions ?
If the draft happened tomorrow if he was inside 25 im not sure it would be by that much

Hes really lacking at the moment. Not sure how much is injury related but his speed and ability to cover the ground is terrible right now

Theres still something there with his evasivness and dual sided ability and hes pretty skillful

Hes in a tough spot, his position is as a small/medium forward but hia pace is not there

I guess it depends on how much weight you put into talent v performance. Personally I wouldn't be using a top 35 pick on him at the moment, and with SA's Champs campaign done its hard to see a way for him to bring his stocks back up without getting a seniors debut, it's just too hard to justify selecting a forward with no midfield exposure that isn't impacting even when his side is in possession

I said it a month or so back that Moir could be this years Jackson Broadbent. Hopefully recruiters have seen enough talent to pick him, he seems a good kid would be a pitty for him to miss out.

He just need development then something the Lions are pretty decent at I really liked Moir last year if he does in fact fall that far I’m hoping to draft him

I guess it comes down to whether you think certain things can be improved/ developed by other people, personally I find it difficult to believe people can further develop their contested game and general competitiveness in the contest at the next level where things are happening faster and harder than in the SANFL/ 18s

Anyone have any fears on Walter being that KPF that dominates because of his size and doesn't translate to senior footy?

See it so many times with top KPF
Think it’s been a while since a KPF has been drafted too early for those reasons. Pretty much every top 5 picked key forward lately has looked AFL quality (JUH, Thilthorpe, McDonald, Cadman, Darcy, Kings, Lukosius).

Probably have to go as far back as 2015 to find a dud pick (Schache) that early. I reckon recruiters have clued on to who relies on pure size and who relies on agility, IQ, speed, footy skills, etc

Moir is a very good player and he is having a tough year but he has the runs on the board. Anyone that has ever watched or been part of an AFL club will know that his contested game and competitiveness will organically improve. Moir is not a stat pad and doesn't need a lot of the ball to hurt teams. I have no doubt he will get his name called out before selection 35. His upside out ways his flaws.

Nope, think he's shown enough athleticism woth his leap and speed off the mark for leads/ tackles to be confident he's not a Callow 2.0

Harry Lemmey also had the "runs on the board" and managed to slide to the 40's, because no one is drafted purely off their bottom-age campaign 🙏

Wasnt Callow like one of the end picks in a MSD
