4 more PMBangers draft profile specials!

Stevens is one of the most polarising players in the draft, his performances and footy IQ are obvious, but the athletic requirements of mids at the next level just make it hard to see him continuing that form at the next level. I still think he ends up on a list, and I do think he's got the resilence and determination to be an exception to the rule, but personally it's a risk I wouldn't be taking.

Dawson is arguably one of the most high upside prospects in the draft given his December birth, height and athleticism. He's genuinely in the top 3 or 4 marks of the draft and could be a very capable full back if developed right.

Lual I'm ridiculously high on, I think after a few years in the gym he'll end up a midfielder, but the athletic gifts off of half back are equalling as appealing. In a draft where anything after 17 or so is going to be almost a stab in the dark, I think he's one of the best available on upside.

Carroll hasn't had heaps of exposure due to APS commitments and injury, but has some traits that suit a HBF or Wing in the modern game, and those traits may be enough to get him on a list given there's going to be a lot of traits based drafting

Genuine question. If L Ashcroft was available this draft would he be taken ahead of Saunders and Mckertcher.

Also crystal ball… if Mckertcher was in next years draft class where would he be drafted?

I think he and Sanders would be neck and neck, they both possess some of the similar positives but Sanders would probably just edge him out. I think McKercher would still be taken ahead of him though.

Hard to say given I haven't really done a rankings, but he'd probably be an option from Pick 2 onwards for his traits, and obviously performance would push him into the Pick 1 conversation, although I do think Finn O'Sullivan probably has more appeal purely on traits.

Thanks for that. As a North supporter I wonder how much the club thinks into next year bing mid heavy when drafting this year. I still feel we are at draft best available at this stage though

How high is Sam Marshall likely to go, with Ashcroft looking a top 3 certainty if Marshall is first round it’s hard to see how Lions would get enough points to get both, but if they can wow..

Also where about s are the Campo boys likely to go? It’s been a looooooong time since we had a great father son selection, and the blues boards are getting excited..

If you check his rookiemecentral page the draft profile for him should be up soon and I wrote it, but essentially I just struggle to see him translate as a midfielder regardless of how well he performed in VFL games, more and more we're seeing running power, either through acceleration, kms covered or top speed as a common attribute for some of the better mids in the comp, and Stevens just doesn't have that in his tool bag and doesn't have anything so elite that it compensates for it.

As a defender I don't mind him, but he's still outside 30 for me. He's got fans at afl clubs I know that for sure, so I expect he'll end up on a list and should come in to considerations around Pick 25 onwards
Charlie Constable vibes?
Hard to make it as a slowish HBFer

I think the hardest thing to know with Stephens is the physical profile.

Is he just overweight/too heavy and a greater commitment to running/slimming down will make him a superstar flanker/mid

Or is he just an undersized Tom Hawkins who they gave a run in the mids at VFL level but settles in as a solid but unspectacular 3rd tall forward/defender

So either Clayton Oliver before his meth addiction or Bailey Fritsch..

Basing this all almost entirely on their U18's years but I did think Clohesy had done enough for Calder as an 18/19 year old to get picked up, seems he's continued to improve and perform at state league level and with, with the exception of last year, the VFL young player of the year award has a decent strike rate at the next level. D'Aloia and Ryan I still don't think get drafted despite really good state league seasons, neither have really progressed as players enough to warrant it imo, the others I've watched none of this year so can't really comment, Jack Avery would've had to have improved by a fair amount to be considered since 2021 though

I'd say Walters, or at least peak Walters, was comfortably ahead. Delean can be elusive at times but genuine agility is pretty poor

Kobe Ryan was light years ahead of D'Aloia this season and was one of the best mids in the comp, reflected on Magarey night as well. He'd be well ahead of the two, just a matter of if he is draftable enough.

Early days, and of course it's a cliche, but there does look to be some talent next year going by the early signs, so while Marshall is indeed good, I don't necessarily think he's a first rounder heading into the season, but certainly has the traits to get there. Brisbane are one of the teams that have previously managed to work two first round bids into their draft though with Ashcroft and Fletcher last season, and early on I don't think Levi gets a bid as high as 2, or Marshall as high as 12 like they had to manage last season, so very doable.

I admit I haven't seen heaps of the SA bottom agers, mostly because I find the SANFL U18s boring, so based of their U16s and futures game I'd have Ben as a potential top 10 pick, but towards the backend of it, and Lucas more around the early 20's.

I'd say Stevens skills, particularly in space, are comfortably ahead of Constable's personally, so he's got that as a POD from him but it could be a similar career projectory as a worst case scenario.

Bangers appreciate your thoughts on who or which way the Giants will go with pick 6.To me it appears we won’t get the player we need with how the draft pans out.In my opinion while our mids performed really well this year especially when u consider we lost Taranto,Hopper and Bruhn we only brought in 1 mid in Rowston who is obviously still developing. While Hopper andTaranto were too similar to Green I think we are one short and we can’t be too dependant on Ward who was good this year but turns 34 next year.I’m assuming McKercher,Sanders Duursma and even Watson who I love the look of will be gone.I don’t see the need for Caddy as he’s is a bit Cadmanish and we are stacked with O’Sullivan types .We could possibly go for Darcy Wilson who could be the quality upgrade on few players we rotate through wing position.Or do we trade down with clubs who want Caddy or O’Sullivan ?Or is there other left field options Giants may go with?

If all those you had mentioned are off the board, plus presumably Curtin, I'd like to see us trade down with a club desperate for O'Sullivan or Caddy, either for a decent first next year or 3-4 spots so we're still in the range of Murphy, Wilson, Windsor or Leake who I think all add a bit of depth in more needed roles, and I don't see that significant of a gap between O'Sullivan and that next 'tier'.

WIlson or Windsor allow Callaghan to attend centre bounces more often by filling in on a wing, or push Bedford/ Daniels into more rotation by playing forward, that's a net gain imo. Leake's versatility in position gives us a few options, whether he goes and adds some more class to our backline, or potentially shadows Toby and eventually moves into that role, whereas O'Sullivan is competing for Sam Taylor or Harry Himmelbergs role, and Caddy would be added to our undersized KPF list.

Would appreciate your thoughts Bangers. Kobe Ryan has had an exceptional year for a 19 year old playing in the SANFl league team West Adelaide. He tied for 5th in the Player of the year, tied for 7th in the Magarey Medal, not bad scoring for playing in a loosing team that was placed last. Against this year's Premiers, Glenelg, he yielded 35 disposals, 8 clearances and 12 tackles. He was awarded with the SANFL 2023 Powerade Breakthrough Player of the year, Outstanding Emerging SANFL talent. This humble lad was also voted MVP by the West Adelaide supporters, clearly respected and admired, and a very team orientated player by all accounts..

I think he's got cool hair and a go getter attitude! Further than that, and I can't stress this enough, I do not watch a significant enough amount of state league footy to know, I thought his on field warranted a draft spot last year and assume he hasn't gone backwards, so would be worth a punt

People more educated than I can confirm/deny but he gives off George Horlin - Smith (Geelong) vibes. Very good to exceptional state leaguer, struggled at AFL level

PMBangers can probably confirm this comparison

Who is the best player with a hyphenated name in this year's draft? Since 2004 we've had at least one hyphenated name on the list bar two years (14/15) and with Walla retiring and BZT leaving we need a new one.

Might need to trade for one
