Where does Lachlan Smith from Gippsland power rank for you? Watched him the other day and moves well for a big fella and was surprised he isn't rated higher

It's harder to gauge prospects when they're thrown around positionally as often as Smith is, but for me he's not in the National Draft frame at the moment given he's not overly dominant in any position and isn't anything to write home about athletically either.

Sam Frangalas sounds like he has been incredibly stiff to miss U18 Champs selection, doing reasonably well for Stingrays.

Yeah look I'm one of those that wasn't overly shocked about Frangalas missing out on Country selection, to me he was in direct competition to the De Mattia's and the Smartt's of the team, both of which are better contested ball winners and more athletic. To me, he doesn't look as strong as he did as a bottom ager, and is being more exposed as he's forced more to an outside role. If he has a strong second half of the year as predominantly a forward it'll help his stocks, I just don't see AFL midfield potential there.

Stevens is good; very consistent, hard worker, loves contact and general makes good decisions with ball in hand, but he's not a midfielder at the next level. Without anything in his arsenal to get him some separation around stoppages/ through congestion or more damaging disposal in the contest, it's really hard to be an impactful midfielder unless you're an elite first possession winner with strong receivers. I still think he's a top 30 talent as it stands, but as a defender in a Steven May sort of role

Need to watch the WA v Country replay when it gets released mid week, but just some general thoughts on the Allies v Metro game;

- I've never seen either a) an Allies side as strong as this one, and I'm starting to wonder that if they take down Country by a similar margin as the other sides they've faced if they're in contention as one of the best Champs teams ever, there really hasn't been any point where they've looked behind their opposition or at danger of losing. and b) a Metro side so comprehensively dismantled

- Despite the loss there are still some Metro players that have either risen in my eyes or put themselves down as a watch heading into the second half of the season; Ollie Murphy despite being a bit pantsed early on, strength wise he was clearly outplayed but I felt he evened the contest outside of the first quarter, at least inside 50. Will Lorenz didn't win heaps of it, and still doesn't look super comfortable with a winger role, but I felt his decision making and composure was mostly good when compared to his Metro teammates, I wonder whether the experiment with him out of the backline should be looked at again to help boost his stocks.

- Allies players keep pushing their stocks; Read and Rogers especially keep rising in my eyes with every game, but Cleary, Kirk, Leake, McCormack are slowly and consistently pushing themselves up, Leake especially I think is a top 25 contender at the moment.

- A few people questioned why Metro played such a bottom-age heavy midfield in game 1, this game showed exactly why, there's just not enough quality in top age midfielders to contend at Champs against other competitive sides. That's not to say that Jagga Smith and Josh Smilie make this a win, but stemming the flow of Allies Forward 50 entries certainly wouldn't have hurt from stoppages.

- This is a disappointing draft for footskills overall, not that everyone is a shit kick but there's very very few elite kicks

What are your thoughts on Mckerchers kicking Bangers? Seems to have a lovely left peg at times and at others seems to be a bit suspect.

Great in space, iffy under pressure like most players. He's probably more a winger or half back flank at the next level, at least to start with, so I don't think it'll that much of a concern when he gets into an AFL 22

Wouldn't mind him starting off a HFF rolling up as an extra mid between the arcs. Not sure he'll be in amongst centre bounces for a bit as he's not a fantastic tackler from what I've seen. Seems to do most of his best work in transition rather than being a stoppage weapon, though when he gets out the front of them he is damn good to watch.

I'd like him under the protection of our big ugly inside mids next year. None of them can run so he'd compliment them well

Agree with Docking & Stevens. Docking capable of some very low % kicks. Hastie I've seen hit some really good kicks, but also seen some kicks results in some poor turnovers.

Hardeman would probably be in my top 5, but he often takes shorter safe kicks or just goes long down the line. I wouldn't say he is a really damaging disposer, but he has the potential to be if he develops a bit more.

Philactides, Windsor and Nyko are 3 players that are all very capable of hitting some really nice kicks, but they all have inconsistent decision making and are all very capable of kicking proper howlers.

Obvious Moir is a good kick, but he just doesn't get it enough. Clay Hall is capable of kicking lace out lasers to leading forwards, then the very next possession he'll be in space and kick poorly.

North desperately need kicking skill across the park and I don't think we are going to find it all that easily in this draft.

I think the ideal two for that would be McKercher and Darcy Wilson up the top end, and I reckon the Dees would be a team keen to move up the order with where their picks are at the moment.

Having watched the Allies v Vic Metro game Ashcroft clearly looks pick 1 for next year’s draft Levi looks just as good as Will did

I thought that was one of his poorer games aswell, certainly a top 10 prospect but still plenty of other midfielders staking their claims like Smillie, Smith, O’Sullivan, Gross and Draper. We haven’t seen him in the champs yet but Murphy Reid from Sandringham aswell is another strong midfield prospect.
