If Essendon lose Parish, assuming we finish around 10-14, would the compensation pick be a reach for Edwards?

I don’t believe our offer is enough for band 1 compensation.
If your offer is higher than ours it will be.
They won't get it anyway if they get McKay in.

It'd be hilarious if McKay got pick 3 compo but Parish couldn't even get a first.
If Parish left we would trade for McKay.

Would be peak AFL for that too happen. And you just know that it will

Would North let him go for less than a top 5 pick? They may as well match any offer if they aren't netting pick 3, and I don't think you guys would trade pick 6-10 for McKay.
It's as simple as us not putting in the FA paperwork because we prefer keeping the Parish compensation. Just go straight to North and say that we will only trade for him and that neither of the firsts are on the table.
Is Parish unrestricted?
No, but we'd get a higher pick for him as a FA and trading for McKay than matching and just signing McKay.

You’ll be better off forcing a trade for Parish.

We won’t take a small trade for McKay, he’s not being forced out and he’s the absolute youngest you can be as a free agent by a matter of days which is essentially the other secret spice in compo. Its a bluff I have no doubt we’ll call.

Would we? It wouldn't be a small offer, it would be one accurate of his worth. Which is definitely not a first round pick being involved.

Depends what you pay him, even if it’s not worth 3 it’s going to be worth minimum band 2 which is 19. What he’s worth to us though holding the advantage of matching would be in the middle.

Let’s be honest though, you (the general you) headhunt these guys because you know you can get him for salary only. The extra cash is worth not spending any draft collateral.

I daresay Essendon are anticipating keeping Parish and letting the AFL pay for McKay.

If Parish stays we definitely just sign McKay.

Honestly if he left I'd rather trade for Barrass but that seems unlikely.

I reckon you’re better keeping your assets and to be honest I’m not one to shit on McKay. His best is excellent as he’s had his reasons not to be at his best this year. This time last year he was looking on track to be a potential AA backman, he can still find that IMO. I did want it to be with us.

Talent wise it's not a reach at all, but I think Edwards will slip come the actual draft closer to the 20s largely due to his limited versatility

You listed him as both forward and ruck, is he not that good as a forward?

Kade de la Rue?
Wingman, bulldogs just interviewed him and it "went well". Didn't notice him in the champs, of he did play

Bangers, in the likely scenario that North Melbourne pre-list Sanders then have access to picks 2, 3 and 4 due to priority and McKay compensation which would be the best way to make the most of the opportunity? McKercher seems like a no-brainer there but we desperately need developing key position players, is it too early to take O'Sullivan?

For Parish? that is surprising, I'd have thought whatever it took to move him would definitely qualify for band 1.

I'm a big fan, I mentioned a little further back in the thread that his work at half forward in the Champs reminded a bit of Harry Sheezel with his link up play and smarts, and I think that's his spot at AFL level as well.

O'Sullivan is in that group in my rankings (5-9) that I could realistically see going in any order, and given Walter and Read are in the top 4 it bumps his range up in my view. It'll depend on what you want really, O'Sullivan is far closer to a McKay replacement than Curtin, but Curtin's use by foot and composure is better

But they'll pick 3 if he goes or they'll keep.

Absolutely no reason for NM to make any trade.

If we never submit the paperwork for free agency it doesn't matter. See Dangerfield, Monfries way back when.

Bangers, Lachie Charleson a bit stiff to not at least get a State Combine invite? Been outstanding for the Rebels and had some nice moments during the Nationals? I'd Willingly give him a rookie shot at the Crows, can't teach his level of footy smarts either forward or on ball.
