This is absolutely brilliant listening. What a footballing brain. Sheesh, can we sign him up? Seems to have a clue what he’s talking about.

And his take on succession plan. Didn’t realise the powers that be were pressuring him to concede to the succession plan at the same time his mother was dying, wife was sick and daughter had a troubled pregnancy.

But don’t we just stand “side by side” with each other at Collingwood hey Ed. You can shove ya lectures at the AGM about what it means to be a Collingwood supporter where the sun don’t shine.

After listening to a Collingwood immortal and premiership hero like Malthouse, it just reinforces what an ungrateful, deluded bunch of a grade try hards Pert, Kelly and Bucks really are.

7 friggin years and chance at multiple flags ruined for one deluded ex captains fantasy of being the next Jock McHale. What a waste.

Yawn.

The footy show interview in 2011 also harmed our chances for multiple flags, as did the decision to keep an injured Reid on Hawkins.

Unlike the Hawks our players hit a wall at or approaching 30. Neither Malthouse or Buckley would have changed that.

I mean, in all fairness, Mick does have a past history of...you know....lying. In particular when trying to save his own skin. He also has a history of pushing his own players under the bus.

Now, on the flipside, Eddie McGuire may be full of s**t, egotistical and somewhat clouded in his judgement, but as far as I can tell he doesn't lie. So when Ed says "Mick came to me and said he was done with coaching, his mother was dying, his wife was sick and his daughter was having a troubled pregnancy and it was all becoming too much for him", I'm inclined to believe him.

LOL WGAF that was seven years ago, it’s not reverting now. I’m not sure which is more amusing, that Malthouse keeps bleating about it or that people still want to argue about it.

You should know better than to bring this one up on this site, mate.

Remember Bucks and Ed ultimately can do no wrong. Just ask them or better still Pies supporters. In the eyes of most Pies supporters, Mick was the reason for the non-success of the succession plan. It's not right but it just is.

No, cause most of us are sick of the whole discussion being brought up time again and again. Time to let the thing go.

I’m surprised this thread hasn’t been closed or merged with any number of threads about the succession plan already.

This topic has been discussed to death and we all just need to move on. Stop flogging a dead horse please!

The past cannot be changed, no matter your viewpoint on this topic. Look to the future and what our club can do/achieve in years to come.

Continually looking back and dredging up the past serves no purpose whatsoever.

There is a very strong arguement that the succession plan should have been put on hold after the 2010 flag. It’s a hindsight arguement though. No amount of debate will change what happened since. Mick made a fantastic contribution to Collingwood but he is not blameless in our inability to win the 2011 flag, and the subsequent decline of the list after.

I see MM as the one who didn’t live up to the deal, he accepted the deal and left and created a bit of a vacuum. A mentor type approach has been good for Dew, an experienced set of hands to bounce ideas off and work with.

I don’t think they could have stayed out of each other’s way in any event.

Move on

Why do people comment when they haven't listened. I have never heard MM talk about this ever.. it was riveting. Thats 2 weeks in a row the Don't Argue podcast has produced the goods, Its the best footy podcast going around

Because Mick is a selfish, narcissist, liar maybe??

He's an immortal just as much for setting Carlton back 10 years as anything else, I'll give him that.

"great football brain" indeed
