Looking at him. Could always drop Newnes for him and save $70k

At the moment I have
Newnes, Vlastuin, Varcoe, Impey and Goodes (Pending NAB)

I know some say won't like it but really makes my other lines look good.
If 3 of those player start averring 85+ I will be laughing.

If not I will be crying

How do you think D.Buckley will go?
Looked a lot bigger and 10x fitter than last year in the intraclub game yesterday which was a good sign. Played him in the forward line though which was interesting because i expected to see him running off half back. His issue this year will definitely being able to get his hands on the football enough to have an impact SC wise IMO so I wouldn't have him in my side

Not gonna happen, mate.

Impey's a good little player, but doesn't get enough of his own ball or create play often enough. 70 tops for him. Will get lockdown jobs more often than not.

Varcoe has has never averaged 85 in his entire career, (only 1 80+ season which was 5 years ago & his 2nd best season 71 ave) can't see him changing that after 9 years in the system. Also massive injury risk. He's one of those guys who misses a lot of games with minor injuries.

Vlastuin is 3rd year, but hasn't shown signs of breaking out of date. Goes missing for large chunks of games. Needs to win more of his own ball. Tiges have plenty of mids ahead of him, so can't see a role change for him that would = anything more than a 75 average.

I'm not expecting any more than 70 from Goodes even if he is upgraded and plays the whole season. He's 31 now, so don't expect him to wind the clock back to 2013 & average 90 again.

Newnes should go 85+ though, if he can improve slightly on last year, which he should do with a bit more mid time.

One itra game doesn't mean shite, Watch over NAB then go from there. I rekon this man is going burn people this year.
It isn't just the intra club match, he has bulked up this preseason, and has improved his endurance. The game today just further shows how far he's come this preseason. At his price, you're missing out if you don't pick him

Double whammy lock for me then

Newnes isn't hype. There's plenty of reasons to suggest he'll become a 95+ defender. And I'm willing to risk that at his price.
Fair enough.

I have Smith, Birchall & Hurn as my main defenders - with KK & Pearce.

Do you think Newnes could avg more than any of those 3?

I think he'll average more than Hurn, and possibly Birchall. He averaged close to both of them last year, and there's more to suggest that his scoring this year than them

I think Hurn & Birchall are great money for jam selections, just a tad underpriced @ 467 & 477k each - both capable of 95+ IMO.

They are solid selections, as is Newnes. Is there anyway you could keep both of them and get Jack in?

Newnes & Birchall should both go 90-95. IMO

Difference is one will cost you 436k & the other 477k.

No doubt there is risk with Newnes, but we'll see.

Not really man :(

Unless I downgrade Smith etc

I like Jack it's just I think there a more "seasoned" selections.

He is going to be one of the main men to watch in NAB this season...... I'm not convinced just yet.
Fair enough. I am sold on Newnes and won't be looking too much into his NAB cup. If you don't pick him, you're missing out

The other thing with Newnes is his DPP, which makes him just that bit more valuable throughout the season.

So, say he ave's 80-85, he still provides some solid cover & DPP switch trading throughout the year.

Top 6 owned defenders by percentage

H. Goddard 41.64
B. Whitecross 27.27
N. Malceski 18.86
L. Hodge 17.90
J. Lever 16.57
J. Newnes 15.62

At what point does he no longer become a POD?

I wouldn't consider Newnes a POD

Surprised at the Goddard selection.

Will struggle to play round 1, Mckenzie is more of a chance IMO.

Newnes and Fisher. Going the double lock. Add Brodie Smith and I'm good to go
