Re: Jpod on before the game

Seems like a top bloke, seems like this 'story' couldn't have happened to a better guy. Almost feel a bit sorry for him though when having to deal with all the brown-nosing of him :p

I wonder how long he will be able to play? Would the slower pace and standards of the VFL means his might be able to play a year or two older than if he had've been AFL the whole time?

Ha yeah I have a man crush also, as VC once said.

Anyway as to him on before the game...I loved it...he did a pretty good job just to be normal when they were going all OTT on him...especially the ol 'goals in first 5 games stat'. Just seems like a really normal bloke and has a good sense of humour about him. Love it how he thought GF week training was going to be his lifetime highlight...well you might have to swap that for some real stuff mate...good work :thumbsu::)

Yeah, it must be a bit frustrating when all everybody wants to do is talk to you about your past story, rather than what you're doing now. I'm sure, like most footballers, he'd just like to talk about how the game was or wasn't and how he did or didn't play. Anyway I think it helps that he's older and a bit more mature, and also that he's been within the club environment for 18 months, should help him handle all the media attention much better than a young kid would under the same circumstances.

As for your other question, nobody really knows (probably even him). But if he can play another 2 or 3 years after this, that would be great. After all it's about quality not quantity, so if he finishes having played a couple of really great years for us and helped us win another flag, that's the main thing.

Not sure really. I think a lot of footballers don't really like talking about the game or the team or particularly the opposition because of the potential to say something interesting and original which will then be in the media all week. So it's cliche city. At least by talking about himself he can be pretty honest.

Re: Jpod on before the game

loved Dennis Cometti's comment last night...someone kicked the ball to Pods and Dennis said, "He's been passed over more times than the West Gate Bridge!"

Ha that was good, this was better though:
After Pods’ goallast night:

Commetti: “gee I tell you I’m happy I wasn’t playing as a fullback in the VFA when Pods was in his prime”
...
Harley: “he’s not that old Dennis, he wasn’t playing in the VFA, it’s called the VFL thesedays”

He was good, a tad nervous it seemed but hey - can't believe he's just a rookie. Although it was interesting how he didn't start playing footy till he was 17.

Re: Jpod on before the game

I saw it tonight. As Robbo (Mark Robinson) said on channel 7 Friday night after the game, he's just such a humble guy. That's my feelings towards him after seeing a couple of interviews. I think it's an inspiring story for all the nice guys out there, you don't always finish last.;)

Re: Jpod on before the game

Here in Sydney, Before The Game was actually shown after the delayed telecast of the Bombers/Tigers yawn-fest, so Pods' star turn here wasn't on until 2am (ish).

And I suspect that the legend will have grown after his performance. He comes across as a genuine & highly personable bloke, and I think that when we play in the GF this year we will be almost universal favourites because everyone not barracking for whoever we play will be hoping that he gets a premiership gong.

I also believe that his emergence is a major factor in the rapide escalation of the Tomohawk's & Blakey's games, and that he has, as Leigh Matthews noted in the commentary, become a rookie that has actually enhanced the performance of a reigning champion.

Drafting him & managing him as well as he has been is yet more evidence of just how great a coach we have in Bomber.
