Just heard this yesterday from somebody who works in the MCG Library: Mick Jagger owns two complete sets of Wisden.
That's not fair. George Bailey is said to be one edition off a complete run too.

More people in the world have a mobile phone than a flushing toilet.

That has grown so fast. Back in the late nineties when I was studying telecommunications among other things, we were informed that for all the advancements in the area, more than half the world's population had never made a phone call.

Not sure if still true.


Open defecation still a massive issue in India.

Yeah but Modi has made it a big issue, commissioning lots of toilets, etc.

The problem is that the perception of toilets for many is based on bad experiences with the few they've encountered in the past being extremely filthy and disease ridden.

In the Kebela slum in Nairobi everyone has a phone - phone credit is their defacto currency and if they want to buy goods from the makeshift shops there they just punch a few numbers into their phone and transfer phone-credit to the shop-keepers phone.

FWIW after the Shergold review of social services in Victoria you basically need a phone to connect to social services in this state. The single contact model is actually a positive provided you can contact that support person.
