Here are the most watched tv series finales in the USA. To hammer home the obvious: people don't watch as much tv as they used to (if I may generalise from the finales, which I'm gunna :p), with only 3 finales from this century in the top 20, and they were in the mid 2000s

The white South Africans watched Roots backwards so they got a happy ending.
 
In New York City, the sewer system temporarily stopped working during the finale of MASH as so many people were watching it they all went to the toilet at the same time (ad break) and therefore tried flushing at the same time.

I remember the Family Ties one- was Alex moving to New York to start a new job and his mother cracked it. Loved the way they showed how each actor was announced to the audience and showed their final curtain call.

Watched Home Improvement but cannot remember that one at all.

Everybody Loves Raymond was on last night actually- some lame thing about Ray having a health scare and it just ends with them sitting around the kitchen table eating.

While everyone hated the Seinfeld one (can understand it was just a glorified look back on all the eps) I did like the fact they were arrested and thrown in jail- and there were some genuinely funny moments of that finale.

FWIW best ever Finale, EVER- Six Feet Under. There is no contest really.

Pretty sure in the UK power companies had to make sure there was enough juice during add breaks of Neighbours as everyone rushed to turn on the kettle

The M*A*S*H finale (Goodbye, Farewell, Amen) is by far the best ever. Maintains the key themes of the show (medical unit in the army, portrayed as a dramedy) while effectively wrapping things up and sending off the characters. And who could forget this famous scene?

The hug was ad-libbed as well.

MASH has one of the most famous 'kept secret from the cast' scenes in series history (at a time when ad-lib on a drama was rare).

At the end of the famous episode "Abyssinia Henry" they told most of the cast (except for Radar) to film one last scene working quietly in the operating theatre although Alan Alda was also handed a final page of the script before it happened.

As they did, they handed Gary Burghoff (Radar) a couple of lines and told him to go in and read it out - "I have a message. Lieutenant Colonel ... Henry Blake's plane ... was shot down ... over the Sea of Japan. It spun in ... there were no survivors."

The cast were shocked (some cried) and the farewell party for McLean Stevenson (who played Henry) was cancelled due to the cast being so upset.
 
In the original native culture of Thailand , when males reached the
age of 18 they had to participate in the following community ceremony:
