Two of my favourites:

Greenland is further north, south, east, and west of Iceland.

More UK centric, but when I was told Edinburgh is further west than places like Bristol, Carlisle, and Liverpool it blew my mind. Mostly because you associate Edinburgh being on the east of Scotland, and those 3 other towns on the western side of the UK.

In a similar vein to the above, Carson City, the capital of Nevada is further west than San Diego and Los Angeles

While Hawaii is the southern most US state, and it sits on nearly the same latitude as Cuba, the Dominican Republic & Puerto Rico - not sure why, even having flown there, I had always pictured it as being west of California and not south of it

Nah, it's geography based - Seattle is approx only 160km from the Canadian border and approx 225km from Vancouver



The black line in the above image is the 49th parallel with Seattle a bit below that, so that's where you get the 60% live below Seattle
