I haven't done a search on this forum so this could have been mentioned elsewhere, but I'm just interested in getting the hang of using a HUD on pokerstars. I've heard PokerTracker is one of the best, what tips or resources do you suggest I have a look at to get the full use from this. I'm looking for basic information on how it works (which I'm sure I could grab when I download the HUD) and also how I can use it to improve my game.

Am I right that the information only comes from when you have played directly against somebody?

I assume all the online players on here are using one?

I use Holdem Manager, which IMO has the best reputation for reliability and support. It supports a vast array of sites, and there are add-ons for Omaha and such.

i trailed poker tracker and hold em manager, and went with Hold em Manager.

Just download the trials and give it a go. It downloads hand histories which you have played with opponents. It has definitely helped me out of some tricky spots.

For a casual player (4/5 hours a week), do you find the information given reliable? I just feel like the sample sizes would be too small.

If you do any multitabling, you'll probably find it useful, even with small sample sizes. If you don't multitable and play only low stakes, it's usefulness is probably limited.

I usually play 4-5 tables at a time, I see it could be useful there as you don't have to to study how the people on the table are playing.

I'm primarily a casino poker play (and a bit of pub poker) and want to start playing online a bit more.

I use PT3 and find it works well.

Obviously you can't datamine anymore - only being allowed to gather data on hands you're involved in. However, I notice a site (can I say which??) which allows you to buy hand histories for uploading into your database and you can narrow down the site, stake etc so that you are likely to gather thousands of hands on the regs you will face.

Is there any restriction on this? I assume if they are selling them then the sites allow it.

It's against the rules. If they catch you, they will ban you, but realistically it's almost impossible for them to police.

A HUD would definitely be beneficial above 3 tables. It's just extremely useful to have instant access to stats like open raise, 3bet, Cbet, fold to Cbet, and general aggression.

Its called data-mining and yes it is illegal and if your caught you will be banned/funds confiscated

All of the tracking sites run against the wishes of the pokersites. PTR has had trouble recording a lot of FTP hands lately because theyve put in new measures to stop it. Its illegal to visit those sites while you have the poker client open as well

As for a HUD, either is fine.
