Hi Guys,

Not sure if you have heard of Poker SA but it has now taken over from the Adelaide Casino as SA's Poker home.

It's been running for about 8 months or so now and numbers are increasing all the time. It's very well run by Rich (Ex Adelaide Cas employee). The dealers are great & the waiting staff are top notch too.

Two weeks ago they had their Diamond Poker Tournament which is a $2400.00 buy-in tourney (they have 2 of these Diamond events every year) which attracted 57 runners and included names like Joe Hachem & his brother Tony, Gary Benson, Leo Boxell & Henry Wang......First Prize was over $40K

They are also planning on having a $5000 high rollers event sometime soonish.

The weekend that Poker SA was having their Diamond event (Saturday & Sunday) the Adelaide Casino had a $880.00 buy-in tourney on the Friday night.....they only got 9 runners
The Cas has weekly Tuesday ($125.00) & Wed ($80.00) night Tourney's.....the numbers there are a joke atm. A couple of weeks ago on a Wednesday night, Poker SA got 67 runners while the Cas only got 22, that goes to the swing away from the Cas.

They have weekly tourney's.....
Monday Night Freezeout $160.00 buy-in
Wednesday Night Freezeout $95.00 Buy-in
Thursday Night Re-buy Satellite $100.00 buy-in (tickets to their next main event which could be the Diamond/Platinum/Gold/Silver)
Included in your buy-in is a free drink (anything you want beer/Scotch etc) and also food platters at the first break + another free drink.

They have now opened a cash game room. This has only happened over the last month and it's slowly getting more runners.

Here's their website where they have a calendar with all their tourney dates pokersa.com.au

I've been playing there for a few months now. Most of the regulars that used to play at the Cas now play here. Don't think any of us will be heading into the Cas anytime soon.

Thought I would let you guys know just incase you were heading to Adelaide anytime soon

So the 2.4k they recently held wasnt at the casino? Is this a new venue completely unrelated to the casino?

Interesting if so

Lol if I went over there for it, I wouldve walked into the casino that morning asking where I can register

Na mate, wasn't held at the casino, and yes, a venue completely unrelated to the casino.

All Poker SA events are held at the Maylands Hotel which is just over a minute 5 min drive east of the city centre......it's a nice hotel

Please don't get it confused with the "Pub Leagues" like NPL just cause it's played in a hotel......this is a proper game of poker.

It's far better run than anything the Adelaide Cas has to offer.....and the numbers are proving that.

You can hop onto the their website or on their Facebook page and watch a few video's from the $2.4K event. The video's are done by Poker Asia Pacific who were there covering the event.

The next main event is the Platinum event which is a $1,100 buy-in on Sunday May 18th

I was reading the updates from the Poker Asia Pacific coverage of the event and by all reports the venue was A+.

Im curious if ANZPT or any of the other tours would deal with a non-casino venue at a later date (I have no idea how much space the Maylands Hotel has and whether they could run an event, though given how small Auckland casino was they might be able to I guess with three starting flights)

Might have to give it a look at some point.

They do a great job of posting pics and results of every tourney on FB.

There also have two leaderboards, one is for the up coming ANZPT tourney (next one in Melb). You get points for every tourney you play (depending on where you finish) and the person who finishes top gets sponsored to play in the main event (flights, accommodation & entry paid for). The 2nd leaderboard is a yearly one where the person with the most points at years end gets a package to play the main event at the Aussie Millions.

ibd77....the cheapest tourney they have is on Wed nights and it's $95.00 buy-in. They don't have tourney's on Saturday's and I'm not sure if they have anything in the pipeline for Saturday's atm.....Cash games will be running tho.

Ashley12.....the Maylands is not a huge hotel. They have there main poker room called the Regal Room where most tourney's are held but that only holds 4 tables comfortably. The $2.4K Diamond event was held in the dining area which is a lot larger. Plus now they have the cash game room. All up I think they could have anywhere up to 14-16 tables in these 3 areas.
Also Ashley, I can not speak highly enough of the venue/owners/TD. They welcome all players with open arms and you are treated so well. After how most of us regulars have been treated at the Cas over a very long period of time, Poker SA is a welcomed relief.

Pretty sure they if they had a cap of 10 tables (and 10 handed) they could run an ANZPT with a 300 person cap, three Day 1s, a day 2 and a final table day.

I wonder if Stars would deal with a non-casino though.

Good luck to them - competition between Poker SA and the casino can only be good for Adelaide poker players. I've followed them on FB and Twitter and been very impressed with what they're doing. I hope to get down to Maylands soon but I'm dealing with a newborn at home and that is severely curtailing my poker opportunities.

Half thinking of going over for a weekend. Don't want to go when the World Cup is on. Although the poker room at the Casino is not open on Sunday or Monday.

Saturday May 24 @ 7:40pm - Port Adelaide v Hawthorn
Sunday May 25 @ 12:30pm - $320* Gold Event

* One rebuy allowed, which is not raked (ya hear that Crown?)

The Cash Room at the Maylands is open everyday from 5pm. Numbers aren't huge atm, they've only just started it up (been running for just over a month now). There is normally one table of 5/5 running (at least). You can even ring before you go and reserve a seat.

Another great thing about Poker SA, all rebuys in tourney's are not raked :)

They also have a High Rollers (capped at 20 players) $550.00 SnG on Firday nights

Finding it hard to get cheap flights at the times I want. Return Sunday night would be ideal so I'd be back at work Monday.

Otherwise I'd have to fly back early on Monday.

Had a look for seats to the game. I assume once tickets are released in Adelaide most are gone within a few days. All that is available is way up in the clouds behind the goals. So I won't be going. Spewing cos Port v Hawthorn would have been awesome. Might consider going in July/August after the World Cup.

I would have been there next Sunday if I could have got a good ticket to Port v Hawthorn.

Looking ahead, Port v Sydney (R20, Sat Aug 9) might be worth a weekend trip. Does clash with MIFF though.

General Public tickets on sale Tuesday 15 July.

People suggesting Sydney vs Port was a Grand Final preview, so I'm keen to get over for the return match in R20.

Does anyone know if Ben Delaney is playing at the Casino in Adelaide?

Sorry Happy but I don't know this Ben Delaney dude....but then again, I don't really play at the Cas much these days, But I will be going in after the Footy on Saturday. Things are changing at the Poker Zone these days, they are opening at 4:30 this Saturday.......perfect timing to have a game straight after the footy

If you do decide to make the trip, get tickets as soon as they go on sale......they'll all be sold out within a day or two

I will have a better indication of my availability around July 8-10. At that time I should be able to book flights then see if I can get a ticket to the game first thing on July 15.

I would prefer to get home Sunday night but I think the Sunday tournament can finish quite late.
