Pokerstars has Australian interests (owns a company operating in Australia). That leaves them vulnerable to the laws which already outlaw online poker operated by Australian companies. The same situation does not apply to most other poker sites.

You would think if that is the case then Pokerstars would remove there offices in Australia and move them to a different location. Its a very up in the air time for us now and if this ban goes through well its back to the 9-5 for me :(

Just read the thread on 2+2. This news so far appears to be coming from only 1 source and a) he is not involved with pokerstars & b) several reputable posters have suggested that the source is shady to say the least and very likely unreliable.

Still this news is pretty worrying

Good point just made on QJ's. If stars really was expecting a DOJ style blitz on online poker in Aus they would be pulling out of the market immediately not waiting till June 1.

NoahSD: Don't see any other source on this. I suppose it's possible he got an announcement slightly early or something, but right now it's just one guy's tweet.
SEABEAST: chris levick is an infamous scammer with a bunch of failed poker business attempts behind him.

he also loves attention, and is the type to want to raise his profile by being the first to announce something like this if he got wind that it was true...

FWIW i wouldn't trust Steve here 100%

Neither would I.

I dont think its a 100% guaranteed decision to pull out of the market, but its not a decision that they are staying ceterus paribus either.

If there was any chance they ARENT leaving, then they would not confirm it even if the idea was more likely then staying. Because the "withdrawal" isnt immediate, they still want players playing today and tomorrow even if they won't be here in a few months time.

LOL story. A bunch of the players who had heard of this news at Burswood last night laughed at the internet players who would now have to play "like real men" at the casino rather then on the internet. All well and good, except that they are that dumb to realise how that is a real bad thing for their games.

I think it's probably even money at this stage. At least i can feel that my money will be safe on stars and can continue playing right down to the end.

Now if only FTP would stop spamming me with emails about fantasy poker and lessons from the pros and process my withdrawal from 3 weeks ago that would be ace.

For mine I believe that Stars will do all in the power to stay in Australia and we will see the closing of the Sydney office. Ive spent most of my day trying to contact people to work out whats going to happen (from both the Poker and the anti gambling sides) and it seems they think that the site will be around all though a few of the anti gambling mentioned the "Online Casinos are dangerous for our youth) so id be expect some sort of regulation to be put into place regarding showing identity to the sites etc to be able to play.

No need to do that with Stars, if anything Black Friday has shown what an amazing company they are and how they know that they need to look after there players. We are a key market to them atm and they will do all in there power to stay.

God i sound like a stars worker

Ok did a little reading and it looks like its more of an apple store thing

Pokerstars aren't saying why it's not available, just saying we can continue to play on desktop site

Who knows though, it angers me that politicians can't just have a simple conversation to make this all work out, the solutions are so simple

Yeah I'm not an online grinder but its so just insane to think one day it might not be there

America banning it is understandable considering they have entire states where it's illegal, but this government is so pro gambling and its revenue that the idea of them banning poker for purely image purposes is so insane

It's just so draw droppingly bad of the government but nobody is going to make any noise about it because majority don't care about it

Any country without online poker will suffer in all aspects of the game
