Stalled negotiations at Freo. I'm not suprised, they are on the edge of the salary cap. They could barely pay Medhurst's new contract and Polak was on nothing last year but will be looking for a big pay rise.

I'm positive we are targeting him, offering a good long term contract and making it clear that he will be our No1 CHB which Freo can't do ATM.

Give them anything that they want for Polak...sell the house...I am not joking either...hi is a potential AA...

I doubt this trade would happen but if it does it would make me very happy....

Cox, Braun and 2nd round draft pick? Maybe a bit much but you are trading for a potential superstar.

I was astonished to learn that he was still uncontracted. He doesn't come across as the inflated-sense-of-self-worth type, so it may be that someone's in his ear.

I hope the Eagles have a red-hot go for him.

Kerr's current contract and Polak's next contract would be similar in money [I'm guessing]. So if they can't afford Polak they couldn't afford Kerr either. In any event they would have to have rocks in their heads to trade Polak.

You would need to give up Kerr & a first round pick at least. If you want quality you have to give quality.
Assuming he is looking elsewhere, I'd like to think that the Eagles can do a deal for him with Freo. Because otherwise he may just go into the draft, which of course puts the Eagles in a pretty strong position.

He would have to go in the preseason draft if a trade could not be done thereby giving the Doggies & Blues first crack.

They are probably waiting until after the Doig medal to adjust his remuneration. CC has said that he will be playing forward this year (not that that means much I suppose).

if hay falls through...which looks likely. We offer the world to polak and the dockers -
i no its a big risk and we all love him but Chad Fletcher must be around the mark. The dockers said they needed an in and under midfielder.
Especially if we get Bartel, Fletcher (whos older) must be a trade option.
We might have to pay some of his salary but meh who cares polak would be our future.

the big ones would be wirra, sampi and matera.

the dockers would have to have rocks in their head to get rid of polak. why the hell would they sign up medhurst if they couldn't afford polak?

Why would we spend the best part of 8 years trying to rebuild a centre line/midfield of the quality of our early 90's then trade it away.

IMO Kerr,Judd,Fletcher,Cuz are untouchable. We have the base for a good side we just need more KPP, but I am not willing to sacrifice Kerr for a KPP. Surely we have other avenues in which we can satisfy Freo for such a trade. Maybe a 3 way inlcuding Cox in there somewhere for a Victorian club. Maybe they can have Bartel. I would prefer to keep our current Midfiled together as long as possible. Just look at Brisbanes, unchanged for 5 years.

For Polak... in your dreams - you would have to be trying very hard to be a comedian on that one.

Surely the only option for Polak would be Kerr + Pick OR Judd + Pick OR Fletcher + high pick.

(BTW - I say Judd + pick because as good as he is, he's a burst player, Polak is a 120 minute, Mr Consistant KPP.)

haha i love it how opposition supporters think Judd's a burst player.

What u guys dont understand is that he is a consistant footballer with bursts of absolute brilliance.

A burst player is Jeff Farmer.

BTW i would only offer Fletcher..
peoples u have to trade quality for quality. and i think the dockers would take that if polak had to leave. U wont get much better offer.

If Freo have the salary cap room, they will sign Polak. They are not incompetent anymore.

If they do not have the room / cannot satisfy Polak financially, which is highly unlikely, then they trade him, they would not let him go pre-season.

They won't get Fletcher / any good player for him, because if they could afford him (Fletch and Polak would get about the same wage next season), THEY'D SIGN POLAK.

I'd expect Freo would ask for at least two first round picks, which means, I'd think our current pick 11, plus another high pick (1-4)we'd have to swing to them.

but this is all so hypothetical, BUT PLEASE STOP THROWING UP EAGLE NAMES. If they can afford any of the players you are lisiting, then they could afford Polak.

Heh, this is a great thread.

Judd+Pick for Polak?

I think I can safely say Polak is going nowhere, it would definitely be one out of left field if he was traded this year. But if he was up for grabs, we should try do everything in our power to keep him, except for Judd/Kerr/Fletch/Cousins/Gardiner. The rest are tradeable.

Sorry, here is another dose of reality.

If the Dockers were that close to the salary cap, they clear room during trade week to keep Polak. Trade other players for picks.

over paid players at Freo ... hmmmm.

How much room can Freo have? If Judd signed for close to $400k, then Polak will cost at least $350K+ to keep.

Either way, they will have to pay market price as i don't think Polak would like having to live with that over priced dud for another year, knowing he's twice the player Croad is.

Pick 11 + Lynch or Chambers or else we'll negotiate with the Bulldogs.

You want a future AA and a draft pick for Polak. Slightly over the top
