Polak would have been handy earlier in the year when Johnson and Thornton were out, or in the 2nd ruck position. But unless he can hold down a key position, especially FB or CHB, we have better options. Having said that, he would have had more trade value for us if he did not insist on going to richmond, and threatenned us with PSD.

Lazy sums up Gutless Graham. Maybe our coaching staff couldn't motivate him, but we wanted big things from a guy of his talent and got nothing. Polak would look a million bucks playing as a spare man across our backline too.. thats nothing new. I hope he does play on Pav, pencil Pav in for 10 goals+ if thats the case.
Polak will carve up that selfish pav thats why freo will never win a flag in the near future to many stat chasers GO TIGERS

See this is why GT should be careful what he says in the media. There's a lot of really stupid impressionable people out their who aren't intelligent enough to form their own ideas and just regurgitate the latest thing they heard on the radio.

Oh thats really profound, Mr. 20/20 hindsight.

Everyone is pointing to Polaks "off field demons" for the reason why Freo cut him.

Oh dear, now your looking for profound things on bigfooty. And then you suggest that I (as part of everyone) think that Polak's off-field issues are the reason for his trading. Any other idiot besides you would notice that my post is saying he's not at the club because he didn't make it on the footy field. But you manage to stand alone. Well done. Now go and play in the sandpit.

The truth is, Graham Polak was (and is) a gutless wonder. Hence the nickname "Gutless Graham".

Polak will get destroyed by Pavlich on the weekend. He will go missing - try and hide under a rock. He just doesnt have the ticker. The problem with Polak was that he took one to many hits to the face early in his career. Trent Crowd then arrived at Freo and got into Polak's ear - introducing Polak to the school of gutless wonders. Once Polak was poisoned by Crowd it was all over - Freo knew they had to cut him.

Polak obviously asked to be traded because Richmond have a slim hope of making the finals and a non existant hope of being in a grand final.. so its an ideal spot for him.. no real pressure games, no "big" games. Just Gutless Graham taking marks across the half back line with noone playing on him.

I think you'll find before he was traded 99% of Freo fans used to describe him "as courageous as they come". Richmond observers have put him near the same level we expected from the Kellaway brothers, and that is the ultimate peak for courage.

lol pay that :thumbsu:

It also applies to the dumb Freo supporters who say Polak chases cheap kicks off half back. Stupid impressionable beings who regurgitate what they hear on big footy :o

Polly rotates on the best forward with Joel because he has to go into the ruck or up forward too. Kicked 3 goals in half a quarter, that's simply good form. Keeps on taking heaps of crunching contested pack marks every week. He's in good form and he's not even fit enough to play Bowden's role.

Much as I disagree with you about Polak, the guy has shown that he has no problems putting the body on the line. Unfortunately where he did not show courage was in winning his place in our best 22 based on hard work, and instead coosing to be traded to club where he would be in the best 22 without question.

With our list for this weekend, Polak would be playing WAFL, or possibly an interchange player.

Nobody can deny that Polak isn't having a good season. If anyone says he's not then they're either deluded or they have an axe to grind.
As for Pavlich. Well I would have thought that he's more than handful for any defender in the competition, let alone Polak. Fact is that Pavlich in peak form is impossible to keep quiet. A truly elite player. For mine, Bowden has the athleticism to go with him, but not the defensive game. Polak has the body and skills, but perhaps not the engine. Thursfield is a logical answer, sound defensive game, athletic, although purely a 'stopping' player. However, underrate Thursfield at your own peril even coming off a knee reco.
My opinion? Unless Thursfield can't do the job on Pavlich (and I'm predicting he will play on him) we are screwed in a major way. Your midfield will be too strong and although I think our boys will be in the contest until at least halfway through the 3rd quarter, but class will prevail.
Here's to a good game anyway.

I predict:

1. Polak will "dog" several contests and then get dragged for being too gutless. Subiaco Oval brings out the gutless streak in Graham - Something Richmond fans will understand after this weekend.

2. Thursfield will do his knee again.

3. Pavlich will kick at least 6 on Bowden. Bowden is at best a workman like player.

Bit harsh to say thursfield will do a knee, I wouldnt wish that upon any opposition player. And,

How can you call Bowden "at best" workman like. You may need to rethink that comment

Pistol, pistol, pistol.

1. How can I say that? well i just did... But to clarify just for you Pistol: Bowden is at best a workman like player.

2. I didnt wish the injury on thursfield - just predicted that it will happen.

Why do you think he is workman like Jeff? Averaging 21.9 possessions this season he set ups the attack coming out of defence for the tigers.

and only 1.6 contested possessions.

He does the exact same job as Chad Cornes, Tagh Kennelly, etc. The only difference is that on top of his excellent rebounding from defense, he isn't playing as a looseman or against the 3rd or 4th best foward for the opposition. He gets their best foward everyweek, despite only being 90kg and 188cm

Those 2 guys are in the elite category and thats where i would have Bowden in that group as well. Dont know what GentlemenJeff is on about to be honest.

Back on to the game, I think:

- Sandilands will tear Pattison a new hole in the ruckwork, around the ground Patto will still be okay with 15 or so touches
- One of Polak or Tarrent will fire, the other will struggle
- Polak will start of Pav but in the first 10min he will be the looseman with JBowden going to him and doing a servicble job
- Foley and Hasleby will have some good contests while trying to get the ball out of the middle
- One unexpected player from each team will have a big game
- Deledio will play well of half back, as will Hayden
- Jackson will do a good job on Black/Carr
- Richo will be triple teamed at every contest but will still manage 2 or 3 goals. Despite him manning up on 3 players Richmonds midfielders with go to him everytime instead of Huges or Schultz/Kingsley
- It will be an open but ugly game IMO

Can't see Richmond winning this game. Freo will win by 20-40 points

Richo wont be tripled teamed... McPharlin will get him and we will probably hae a loose man standing just in front of Richo waiting for the ball to be kicked his way.

Id say Jackson would get Hasleby or possibly Headland (everyone loves to tag him - dont know why).

Think you have the margin about spot on. We should win by more but we never put away teams when we get on top and your not that bad of a side.
