Drill it into our boys that they're the best. That expectation can be converted into results thru' belief.
Put a swagger in your step, seize the moment by thriving in the moment by enjoying the moment.
Get a hunger for the pressure and laugh at self doubt. Don't just aim at kicking a goal
aim at kicking it right thru' the exact middle between the posts.
Its not as silly as it sound.

1 thing I've noticed over the last few years is our lack of arrogance amongst the playing group. When you watch other teams run out on the field (and I especially notice it with the Crows) seriously half the team walks out looking cocky as all hell. Half their team are basically FIGJAMs. However with us I don't even think I could name 1 player like that. Wingard was probably in that category, but the rest of our team is very unassuming. Almost in a low self confidence sense. I mean maybe Xavier and Butters could well be our most confident players and theyre in their first season. So i dont think its a bad concept to consider that maybe our boys need a bit more pumping up to really back themselves in.

Port Adelaide’s burning question: Can the Power avoid complacency against the Roos?

It would be a sign of the Power’s maturity if they can comfortably account for North on Friday night. But the fact is this Port side has a far different look to it than last season. As the below Champion Data numbers reveal, the Power have gone from a slow, somewhat boring stoppage-based team to a quick, high-handball side that’s No. 1 focus is gaining territory and locking the ball in the forward half. It’s a sustainable brand that could see them push deep into the finals.

This is good.
This is what Ken and the coaches have promised.
So far they have come through for us.
Must say, that WC game was one of the most exciting I have seen us play in a long time, with several commentators saying it is the best game out of all teams this year.

I agree it was a great game. Have watched the replay several times. Just about know all the moves off by heart now.
The fab four, have welded very well with the other Port players. :D
Butters has all the moves b geez, and his handballs are spot on.:p. He should coach a few of our other players how to handball ;)

Can anyone tell me the opposition pressure facts against us round by round?

I have a feeling that has had a massive impact on our ability to play our attacking game style.

The worry is that any team can up the ante on that for a week when they are under the pump like Nth is this week (its much harder to do it for a whole season like Richmond did).

Even when you take into account pressure acts per oppo disposal (for both us and the oppo) we've been beaten the last 3 weeks (0.8 vs 0.75 pressure acts per opposition disposal last week in WCE's favour).

So regardless of WCE's increased pressure we were still able to move it quickly enough where that pressure didn't lead to stagnation/turnover.

You'll find we play better when we defend higher up the ground. There's a big difference between pressure acts that are accrued in defensive 50 and pressure acts that are accrued in attacking 50.

That's where the problem is - it's when our players sit back and remain stagnant that we look like hot garbage. They need to be attacking from the outset. Treat the opposition like Rodney Eade viewed Will Minson.

I think our midfield unit as a whole is performing much better than North's so far this season. Cunnington is having a decent season so far but the rest have been pretty average. If we can keep this form going then we should have a clear advantage, however we should have had an advantage against an understrength Richmond so who knows what's going to happen.

North's defence isn't travelling too well either but MacMillian is going ok, so we'll need to keep the ball away from him, maybe some similar tactics from Marshall in the Eagles game will help bring the other players around the ball into play. It would be ideal to see him get on the end of a few, but if he's playing a role well, then that is good enough for me at this point in time.

Keeping Ben Brown under control will be important, we couldn't stop Lynch 2 weeks ago, but we did well against Darling and Kennedy, so its hard to predict what might happen based on past form. I think Ziebell is going ok as well.

If North turn up after getting blasted in the press this could very well be another close-ish game, which is a worry. This week more than in recent weeks we really need to crank up the pressure from the start to make sure the doubt starts creeping into North player's minds.

Oh I have no problem with it at all. That's what I was alluding to: we were able to smash the ball forward quickly enough that their pressure acts weren't as valuable as stagnation (e.g. stoppages) and turnovers inside our 50 are far less valuable to the oppo than when they occur up the ground.

LOL, it's not going to matter if North Melbourne turn up. The only enemy that Port ever had is itself.

But last week...last week was a four quarter effort. Players were still chasing and harassing opposition players with a minute to go when we were 40+ points in front. Last week was the game I've been waiting for for four years. Because it wasn't a game where we changed our style and caught a team who were expecting us to play one way with something different, which was what happened with Hawthorn in 2015. Instead, it was a game where we played our style of football that we've been trying to play for the first four rounds of the season....except this time, it clicked.

That's the effort of a team that wants to be something greater than the sum of its parts. That's the effort of a premiership team.

The only blip we've had this year was against Richmond in a game that we should have won if we were willing to get in the face of the Tigers instead of letting them dictate the play. And even that game was only a narrow loss.

So you can worry about what happens on Friday night if you like. I'm not. In fact, I hope North Melbourne brings their absolute best effort. It'll be like that guy in Over the Top who got his arm broken, because they'll know that even their absolute best is shit compared to what our players can bring.

I want to destroy the Shinboner spirit and eat the souls of the North Melbourne players.

Yeah those stats kinda blow my theory out the water lol.

Though it might be interesting to adjust it for time with the oppo in possession.

But given your posession adjusted stats that is unlikely to make a difference either.

When it comes to effort, a key example we should be pointing out is Rozee winning a 50 metre penalty with less that 60 seconds to go. He ran like the game was on the line to get a forward entry, despite the fact that the game had been won 30 minutes before.

^ Definitely
I like our players to have a swagger based on inner belief. Being nice while projecting modesty is for the runner up.
Failure is as much about low aim as it is about lack of results.
Ya gotta believe you can do it, that you can execute in the moment.

IIRC some-one said they had 16 Premiership players that game.
Yeah we should've won but no KPF will handicap any team.
Sure they had 'outs' but so did we Dixon Watts Hammer and some senior and leadership players who were bludging passengers.
They were smart enough to target our new draftees as well.
Yep a bad loss but spilt milk. We learn and we move on.

We will lose this game I feel.
Will go in complacent and North will be fired up after all the off field stuff happening this weekend.

Umpires will help North and given we sit last on free kick differential and the kanga's are 5th, I dont expect us to make any ground on 17th in this area.

Before the game, after the players finish their warmup, get them to face the big screen and play the Tim Ginever ANZAC video that's been going around facebook today.

I don't give a flying fortress how motivated Norf are, we need to be at the standard of last week.
If players make mistakes that's fine, but they need to give this game everything they've got.

Nothing less will be acceptable.

Get out there, go hard, and be proud that you gave it 100%.

Watching Demons come out on fire tonight after being totally ridiculed by the media this week. Yes I am concerned about our game now. North won’t be a pushover.
