I can understand employers doing background police checks on potential employees - as noted above you want to make sure your new employee is trustworthy.

One thing that gives me the shits though is having to get a background check to do anything with kids. My daughters are in girl guides and whenever there's a father/daughter event I, and presumably every other dad going, has to fill out a form and guides get the police to check us all out. For ****s sake, if I was going to molest them I'd do it at home.

Just get a working with children card. Costs stuff all and should save the hassle.

That was as a minor, so it shouldn't show up on your record.

I had to get one because I am doing a Dipolma of Justice, and needed a Police check to go to the Police Academy in Glen Wavereley, I got the PDF file from Victoria Police, put all my information on the file, saved.. printed and got one of my teachers (who happens to be a Sgt) to sign and confirm it.

Then I mailed it.

I'll have to get one eventually as well as I am doing a primary school teaching course at university. Presumably to make sure I have not been convicted of crimes, especially crimes of a sexual nature.
