Why exactly do you have a problem with Vegemite being marked halal? Do you also have a problem with items on restaurant menus being marked vegetarian or gluten free?

In reality, being Halal doesn't really affect the quality of a product.

Kraft probably couldn't give a **** if Vegemite is Halal or not. They could lose their Muslim customer base for the product and it wouldn't exactly send them broke.

The problem is foods like Vegemite are now marked Halal because companies are shit scared of the PR backlash if they aren't. It's a joke.

PR backlash? I would have thought it would just be good marketing. It costs them nothing to mark it halal-compliant, and the payoff is that Muslim customers don't avoid it because they're not sure.

Why is it always the Muslims that people get angry about these days, would you have similar objections to food labelled kosher?

of course not

If something is Halal and you label it that way, you will most likely increase your market share

God damn kraft and their attempts to generate more money

I think Season's Greetings is more of an PC/inclusiveness thing in America, where you have substantial Jewish and African-American populations celebrating Hanukah and Kwanzaa at the same time.

Over here it just seems like its treated more as just a variation of a Christmas greeting - which I am not really opposed to. 'Merry Christmas' gets old after the first 500 times.

Merry Christmas :)

My 5 year old is not allowed to have nuts in anything that he takes to school. This is to prevent a reaction from any other child that has allergies. Some of these allergies are so strong that people suffer a reaction as a result of being near the nuts, not eating them.

We are very careful and have no problem with this. Kids are also encouraged to eat healthy food and not have lots of junk food in their lunch boxes. When I volunteered to help out in his class, I watched the teacher check each of their lunches and encouraged them all to eat some fruit at morning tea. Every child had very similar lunches. A sandwich, some fruit, a fruit box and a bottle of water.

I have heard them sing their songs. They sing Baa Baa Black Sheep. They also sing Baa Baa White Sheep and Baa Baa Pink Sheep (which is nothing to do with the gay movement - just a bit of fun for the kids).

The school has a Christmas Carole night on next week.

This is a Western Australian public School. I am yet to see any proof that PC is destroying life as we know it.

I do remember when I went to primary school, that we were told to be careful playing kick to kick as some kids were hurting others taking screamers over the top. I finished primary school in 1978. (Gary Ablett Snr's nephew went to our school - he had an incredible leap for a 12 year old and it did hurt getting his big bogan knee in the back of ones head !) Nobody thought it was political correctness back then, just sensible.

Pretty much anybody that says PC gone mad will annoy me more than any example that they put forward of this actually happening.

Banning peanuts is understandable if a child reacts to them that severely, however I'm yet to actually come across someone who has an allergy to that extent. If several kids are simply unable to touch/eat peanuts, then banning them is excessive.

Ensuring kids have a healthy lunch is the responsibility of parents, not teachers. Schools can educate students all they like regarding the dangers of excessive junk food consumption (which is a great thing), however the onus is ultimately on parents to ensure their children lead a healthy lifestyle.

Telling kids to be safe and careful whilst playing is common sense. Being over-litigious and over-zealous in banning harmless games is reactionary and unnecessary though.

Again, I think some people have misunderstood the point of the thread. Not once have I cried 'PC gone mad', I've merely pointed out several examples of things in society that I believe are soft, reactionary, and could eventually become problematic.

The nuts one used to annoy me but really, if avoiding sending nuts to school means some six-year-old who doesn't yet really understand their condition doesn't end up dead then it's not that hard to send something else for lunch.
